@sooner518: seems like it though, it's exactly when he hits the puddle with his rear wheel. Can't see why not, his brakes surely can be over a hundred degrees c
@keeqan: Flash boiling occurs when a surface is around 250C. I'd say that's pretty hot, although it may not take too much braking at those speeds. It's more impressive than anything else!
@pinkberry3: video of the exact same thing happening to a friends brake rotor: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywB_mgHYjXE&t=428s There a reason Shimano uses all those weird cooling things and everyone else uses DOT fluid. 250 is nothing! try dripping some water on you rotor next time you finish a longer run, it'll sizzle for sure.
crazy fact: when Rob Warner thought the tire of Pierron blew, it was just steam from the hot disc when splashing trough the puddle. Crazy heated brake - no wonder they ride 220mm discs now!
Well deserved win for Pierrion. Such a complete rider, laying down the power at every opportunity then riding the raged edge on the techy sections. Maybe its just the tight pants that get those extra seconds
When I watch the pros, it seems like they are participating in a different sport than I am. I was surprised to get that same feeling comparing the two winning runs. This impression is supported by the fact that nearly all of the elite men, and nearly all the juniors, beat Rachel's time easily. It doesn't seem to me that physiological gender differences fully explain this huge gap. What are the other factors?
of course it comes down to physical differences between a male and a female. men are far stronger so can handle a faster moving bike. its that simple. however these are the top level men and women. Rach would beat pretty much every average male rider easily. i know some very fast guys who have ridden fort bill with times just under 6 mins. until you ride with a pro level rider you can't appreciate how fast they are. male or female.
@mikelee: HIDE THE QUESTION. QUESTIONS ARE BAD AND THEY HURT PEOPLE'S FEELINGS. OBVIOUSLY WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION SO WHY WOULD ANYONE NEED TO ASK IT. HIDE THE QUESTION.

It would have had to be dubbed the French Finish.
