Sea Otter 2017
This air-sprung prosthetic leg was designed and used by Mike Schultz, who rides for Fox's motocross team. After developing the leg for himself, Schultz went on to found BioDapt in order to help other amputees participate in action sports.

Fox's X2 and DPS shocks both received updates for 2018. The DPS gets a new air can designed to increase the negative spring volume and increase small bump sensitivity, while the X2's damping tune was revised. Both shocks are now available in imperial and metric sizes.

Sea Otter 2017
For riders who want the performance of Fox's Factory series but would rather forgo the Kashima coating, the Perfomance Elite series uses the same internals, but has black stanchions.

Giro
"Giro's Empire shoes and Chronicle helmet" = the title of a painting Picasso never did.

Sea Otter 2017
It may look like a fairly basic rain shell, but Gore's 1985 Shakedry jacket is constructed with the lightest Gore Tex fabric available, and weighs a scant 116 grams for a size large. It's currently aimed mainly at road cyclists, but a more durable version designed to withstand the rigors of mountain biking is in the works.

Sea Otter 2017
NitroShox have been teasing us with their oleo damper since 2015, but they're getting closer to bringing the unit to the market. There's supposed to be one heading our way for testing very, very soon - it'll be very interesting to see if a shock with only one adjustment - preload - can match the performance of today's ultra-adjustable options.

Sea Otter 2017
The only external adjustment on the NitroShox damper is preload, which is altered by turning this oversized knob on the piggyback reservoir.

Sea Otter 2017
DHarCo, the Australian mountain bike apparel company whose focus is on comfortable, more casually styled clothing, made their first appearance at Sea Otter. Beginning in May, when riders in the US order from their site, those items will be sent out from a warehouse in the United States, greatly reducing the shipping time.

Sea Otter 2017
Praxis had their new Lyft HD cranks on display. Available in a 170mm length, they're a beefed up version of the standard Lyft cranks, with a thicker spindle and a carbon layup that's designed for aggressive riders. Weight is claimed to be 548 grams, including a 32-tooth chainring.

Sea Otter 2017
The styling of Bern's FL-1 XC may not be for everyone, but at $119 for a lightweight, MIPS equipped helmet the price is reasonable.

Sea Otter 2017
Ohlins had a partially disassembled version of their RXF 34 fork on display. We're currently testing the new coil sprung version of their RXF 36 - keep an eye out for a review in the next few months.

Sea Otter 2017
Ohlins said the highest demand for their shocks seems to be from Santa Cruz and Yeti owners, and this Hightower served to prove that point.

Sea Otter 2017
Sea Otter 2017
Version 2.0 of Kona's Wah Wah pedal is on the way, with a wide polycarbonate platform and seven pins on each side. The final price hasn't been determined, but it's expected to be less than $65. There's also an alloy version in the works, but its release is a little further down the line.

Sea Otter 2017
Specialized had their new, ultralight Epic hardtail on display in a paint scheme inspired by Ned Overend's 1991 S-Works M2. Ultralight isn't an exaggeration, either - the frame weighs only 900 grams.

Sea Otter 2017
Along with their new $1200 carbon wheelset, Bontrager also released an alloy version that uses the same quick-engaging hubs, but, at $600, costs half as much.

Sea Otter 2017
Whistler Performance Lubes made the trek down from British Columbia with their line of chain lubes and fork oils.

Sea Otter 2017
Bike park season is right around the corner - Ergon's super comfy GD1 grips are a good choice for warding off the claw hand that results from long days of plowing through braking bumps.

Pit Viper
Best booth at Sea Otter? The fact that Pit Viper sunglasses had a stereo cassette player blaring MC Hammer only made this scene even better.

"Ohlins said the highest demand for their shocks seems to be from Santa Cruz and Yeti owners"

Why am I not surprised.

Take it right to the heart.
  • 23 0
Yeah, but they aren't buying the PUSH Elevensix . . . . that's real baller money
  • 137 2
9 out of 10 dentists prefer Ohlins
  • 3 0
 My thought exactly.

 @Waldon83:

Plenty of nomad owners have an 11-6. I'm in the minority that still use a DBair

I'm yet to see a nomad with an ohlins but if they're less than an 11-6 they will sell a lot. I almost bought an 11-6 but i couldn't justify the price of a new nice steel hardtail for more midstroke support and small bump sensitivity. I got my db air used from someone that upgraded to an 11-6. It's not perfect but it's damn close and i have an extra grand.

Anybody want to buy an Öhlins fork, I really don't care for mine

Probably also because VPP is shit and necessitates a coil shock to even feel somewhat decent. Bikes built to sell, not to ride.
  • 5 0
@IamSeaDevil: Already sold mine and replaced with a 36

 @nickyp132:

I ride mine plenty. It's my only bike and it does everything well enough. The stock spec'd monarch is a good shock but it doesn't jive well when you start pushing the bike like it's intended. If the monarch had a HSC adjustment it would work well enough.

@endlessblockades: My dentists and riding bro approves Ohlins. Actual fact, I concur.
  • 1 0
It's not the problem of price, If you have the money, it is still better than having a golden sink in the kitchen. BUT, the funny thing is that Yeti SB6c and SC Hightower have quite linear leverage ratios not really suitable for spring Wink On the other hand, such a setup must be very plush Wink

 @lkubica:
I was using a DBAir CS on my SB6c and I changed too the DBCoil CS and it feels a lot better than the air spring.

Air spring felt punchy where the coil feels smooth throughout its stroke.

Lots of 11-6 on these bikes in Colorado.
  • 1 2
I got a Ohlins ttx on my bike because it was the only one I could find that fits my Trek Slash (other than 11-6) and seriously its insane. Won't be missing that shitty monarch that loses air on every drops and bottoms out. (I was running 275psi). I really suck with shock/fork adjustment but the "mid-stroke support" is insane, landing drops and jumps feels so solid. It bobs a bit on the climbs but as soon as you roll thru cracks, loose rocks and roots the "small bump sensitivity" just feels like it gives you a push forward. (Well that's what I think those terms mean lol)

I'm not sure why all the hate towards Ohlins they are 600$ less than Push Eleven-six and pretty sure it's just as good!

And btw, f*ck you weight weenies for flooding the market with air shocks.

That S-Works frame weighs less than my rear tire
  • 1 0
 Same. Sad.

Man $600 wheels with 3° hubs, nitroshock progression, under $65 sweet lookong flat pedals. Lots to like.

I like it how Fox products of the second sort are made to look like Rock Shox
  • 11 0
Thats professional marketing at work. Its like negging the hot chick. Make em feel lesser.
  • 8 3
I like that Fox is making high end shocks and forks in all sizes and configurations (save for coil), which in no way looks like Rock Shox.
  • 8 1
I like it how they improve air can negative spring each year and still haven't caught up with Corset. Is Steve a genius or Fox is making sure all improvements come in well weighted steps. My wild guess is both.

Pit Viper makes probably the best eyewear for endurobros
  • 22 0
Endurbros take themselves way more seriously then these guys. Say what you may about the glasses, their marketing is pretty amusing. If you haven't seen any of the videos, i'd suggest checking them out for a chuckle.
  • 5 0
@lostlunchbox: I love them and their glasses are things of beauty that are rivaled only by their ads
  • 1 0
@Lookinforit: I found the nose piece on mine pretty crappy
  • 6 0
they perfectly capture the feeling of being 30 years late to the party

Dude is wearing a "Ballz" tank. Awesome.
  • 2 0
Their email feed is the best in business!

If I get that Nitroshox shock I guess I'll have to get rid of my bottle cage.

That is a curiously long bracket. Water is for chumps anyway.

That shock belongs on a bike in the Pit Viper booth
  • 12 0
I'm so stoked on plastic Wah Wahs, Race Face chester and Deity just aren't wide enough, maybe these will be Smile
  • 5 0
Fingers crossed these are as good as the original Wah Wahs!
  • 10 0
Great, even chain lube and fork oil are Boost now
  • 7 0
That prosthetic leg is for the win! Amazing that bike parts along with some fantastic engineering skills can get seriously injured riders back where they belong. Big vote to pit viper shades for the 'strong look' ????????
  • 7 2
Nitro Shox looks very intriguing, I'm not a @#$%ing engineer and I don't know what reverse compression mid-rebound setting I should use on the new teal colored knob on my suspension.

Also, Bontrager is killing it with these new affordable high end wheelsets!
  • 8 0
 Yea, +1 for WPL oils!!
  • 6 1
Interested in this Nitroshox genuinely different approach to suspension dampening, Can't help think they would work well on the new Marin and Polygon.
  • 2 0
 And they look the part
  • 4 0
Holy shit, NitroShox is still alive and they hired a designer. Hopefully you guys will finally be able to test it.
  • 5 0
That throwback Special Ed is damn sexy.... and I hate Special Ed
  • 3 0
Bring on a test ride from the Brew Nitro Shox Could be a game changer !!! My double barrel coil CS is awesome, but if this is the beez knees, I'll sell a kidney
  • 3 0
Great now even lubes are coming in boost specific. I definitely need a new bike.
  • 1 0
I had the 11/6 on my 6c and no question it's a wonderful shock but for most of the riding I do, it was overkill IMO. An air shock is still plenty for trails like Suicide in Augora Hills.
  • 3 3
think for the price ohlins should sort out the rear shock bodys. they look like really cheap cast knock offs.
the motor bike stuff is sexy as f@#k makes spending all that money abit easier.
  • 2 0
Can't wait for nitro shox to fully roll out. Those guys have been working on it for so long
  • 2 0
love the pit viper vibe! makes me want to put on my old sun ice jacket and watch ski patrol.
  • 2 0
Pit Viper always down to party.

black stanchions are the ????'s knees

  • 1 0
New evol sleeve I'm pretty sure
  • 2 0
 ballz
  • 1 0
 EVERY BODy needs nitro shox
  • 1 2
Man, those bonty wheelsets sure sound good. Have they fixed the tire fitment issues? Where every other manufacturers tires fit like ass?
  • 1 0
They have a boost 120 axel on the ankle of that bionic leg.
