I've been doing World Champs since 2008... Fort William and Val di Sole were my first as a junior and it's always a really good moment for me because I can show how proud I am of my country. I'm still riding for Giant of course, but I get so many messages from home it's great to ride with my Colombia colors all over my jersey and helmet. We have a lot of talent out in Colombia, but it's not so easy for us to make a World Cup season. You have to be smart and responsible with all the paperwork, the visas and doing things right with your sponsors. You need someone to pay all that because it is simply too much money to pay out of your pocket. My brother raced Windham and I'm looking forward to seeing him at the World Champs I hope next year - Marcello Gutierrez - Giant Factory Racing |
It's definitely gonna be a tough one to defend the jersey here. I haven't had the greatest World Cup season, but it is a whole different race and another chance to have a good result. We had a good track walk just now and checked it all out and I think it should be good. It's nice and dry which obviously helps me out; it's always been wet and muddy here before and I didn't have the best races. I want to win another Worlds of course and you always wanna win races, but it's no pressure for me to win another. I won the one that I wanted to win and also the amount I wanted to win, so now I do see it as looking for a bonus - Greg Minnaar - Santa Cruz Syndicate |
Champs is unlike a lot of the races we do; you either win it or loose it, there's not a whole lot for second place. I've always seen the overall as something bigger, but I already won it a few times and never won the World Champs, so I definitely wanna win this thing. I missed the race here last season after getting hurt in South Africa and the first year I crashed after the first day of practice so I actually never raced the track before. We got a little bit more time this race to get up to speed with the practice schedule and it's a great course, I really like it. I feel like I am in a position to win if I can have my best day, so I'm just gonna try to make it happen - Aaron Gwin - Specialized Racing DH |
This is my 22nd year riding for Great Britain so it's an honor to get to ride for the team. We have a lot of fast guys who didn't make the team because of the tough criteria, but happily I made it. It's getting tougher and tougher to make the cut, a bit of a task really. I'm a fan of the track here in Norway and I had a good result here last year with sixth place. I like how it rides, I like the rock gardens and that sort of stuff, so I'll be looking to bring some of the viking power to the hill this weekend! Steve Peat - Santa Cruz Syndicate |

Uci site is pitiful at best at providing the teams, it's the race weekend and the info should be out there
Any help appreciated cheers
Ratty is in a zone. Hill's definitely back. Gwin wants this one more than he ever has and is riding solid again. At the same time, there's at least a dozen other riders that have a solid shot as this one and another dozen dark-horses behind them.
So gutted that Stevie Smith is out of this one. Even after this race wraps up, it will still be "his" track since he's won here twice. Undoubtedly, he would have been the favorite for this race.
he want to keep that rainbow jersey at home

Thanks for the info.
So, is the limited amount of entry for each country leaves some people out like Brendog?
How is one being counted or being chosen to be in the team?
Another thing just to clarify, as said before Manon and Rat are worlds leaders till next year? Right?
And if they don't become world champions now doesn't alter any points or being counted in the WC?
And comparing to the Olympics you mentioned, a whole season World Cup series compares to four years of training and competing and then the Olympics is a one off chance to prove, right?
Manon and Ratboy are not the world leaders, they are the winners of the World Cup. They won the "overall" title because they had accumulated the most points over the entire "overall" season. If a racer wins only 1 race, that racer won a World Cup. If a racer wins the "overall" that racer won the World Cup. This is exactly the same as in Alpine Skiing.
Whoever wins this weekend will be called World Champion, which is a title that is 100% separate from the World Cup or its points or anything. It is also very similar to Alpine Skiing in this regard, except the bike version happens every year and the ski version is every 2 years.
You rule brother, many thanks.
So Ratboy is the world cup winner and is going to be the world champ soon, ain't it

If you still (after 3 years) like freecaster better ... well, you should get glasses.
Separate from that, there is one World Championship race held every year, for which the winner gets a rainbow jersey to wear in races of the same type until the next world champion is determined. That's what this photo story is about. Historically these races tend to be a bit wilder than a World Cup race.
Any more questions?
So that means the Rat is already the world cup winner, and now the world champs has nothing to do with that, and its a oneoff thing?
And in the world champs do racers race as a nation's team or its still their own teams?
Sorry for my unawareness! Cheers.
It's a one day race that crowns the winner as World Champion. Said winner is referred to as World Champion for the next year (until the next World's is held). Having that title is a rather big deal and a goal of any racer.
Thanks for the info.

@MrsFunSocks Were you born into the world knowing everything? Didn't think so. So, nice work on your support there. Same to all the neg proppers.
Cheers brother, thanks for your time. Ke-brap answered all. It seems it was only me in this world that didn't know everything
