Selected by Colin Meagher - Man, the stories this worn out Maxxis High Roller could tell... Mostly though, it says that someone's had a helluva a good summer of shred on their bike.
malathion- props on the "Wild at Heart." Peeps be hating on Cage but he has made some fine movies. Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my indidviduality, and my belief in personal freedom. Raising Arizona will blow your mind or Moonstruck- I lost my hand, I lost my bride! Or now in one of my favorite reboots- Gone In 90 seconds- he and his crew have to steal highend mountain bikes from Whitler to make a payment to some bounties on the take. But I digress. Props my young brother.
but... Con Air was friggen awesome! And who can forget one of his most gut-wrenching roles as an epileptic cry-baby in Leaving Las Vegas.
Almost as awesome as that 60 second joke.
I'm pretty sure Ghost Rider was the worst movie ever made. Nicholas Cage should be beaten with a sack full of oranges based on that movie alone. You ever tried watching National Treasure on a bus??? I bet you can't!
Don't understand why this is worthy of pod, not creative, don't make me wanna ride (although i'm riding today anyway), all in all its pretty goddam dull. Sorry, just an opinion.
To me this picture demonstrates that sometimes what you don't see is just as important. I don't see anyone riding fast or having fun, but that is all I think about when I look at this tyre. I also like the change up from the norm...
I took a photo like this last week for a bike review- http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2851/9717803442_be70a6d3ed_c.jpg. No way would I ever expect it to get pod, why should it? People who think this pod is worthy are trying way too hard to read into it. It's a point and shoot photo of a tyre.
How many trails, jumps and fun had been rode , how many crashes, dirt and mud... it had looked flat some times but in shape must of them.It makes its owner so proud, that deserves a picture like that...smiling at the end of a live. I wish my wife be like it...
Dude, his tire photo is a lot better than yours. I have never seen a tire in such HD. His looks like its been on Sam Hill's bike, yours looks like it has been used on a pump track at euro bike.
Hoolydooly, you missed the point I was making. I wasn't saying mine was better, nor was I looking for any crit. I was merely stating that people take photos of tyres all the time and nobody has ever felt the need to look so deeply into a photo of a tyre before but now that a photo of a tyre has become POD people are debating the creativity that comes from a point and shoot shot of a tyre. With regards to your "HD" comment my photo was focused on the side knobs for purposes of the review, this photo in the pod was focused on the centre of the tyre for purposes of the photographers own story. The side knobs in mine are just as sharp as the central knobs on his photo...
word, it reminds me of when I see hipsters taking pictures of trash cans and train tracks. nothing special here. real life is HD too and has lots of megapixels. if I wanted to look at a worn out tire I could go out to my garage.
Never said that I didn't get the idea of a picture of tyre wear, what I don't get is the lack of creativeness in the image, i'm a photographer and a mountain biker and it could have been executed with a lot more originality . . . . . . nice technical image ? Yes . . . . POD ?? HELL NO.
100 other amazing shots in this guys albums that i would have picked over this terd.. I mean ok its something different, and all the photographers are gonna bust over it and defend it to the death because I wouldn't expect anything else, but seriously I have 10 eaten up minions and high rollers in my shed that I can go take a picture of.
I'm a photographer. I am not defending this. I'm more in shock that I can't get my shot as POD over this. I guess its time to stop using my real camera and use Instagram.
Everyone takes pictures. Not everyone is a photographer. Not saying this guy isn't. He has lots of other photos that deserve POD over this. And this is from June of last year.
Yes I understand that simple premise, it is demonstrated frequently by so many people on this site when they weigh in on photography like they have a clue, when the words they spew out show that they clearly don't. If your work has merit, and you market well, you will get noticed, sadly a lot of work you don't find to be very good will get noticed too, happens everyday because of the commodification of photography and such horrible things as "Instagram". Some great shots on your profile mate...
I like it :-) Yes it's simple... but it is evocative too! It not about what's in the shot but what isn't... and that is down to your imagination. POD? Maybe not but who gives a damn!!!
well yep i cant believe they are showing my old worn tires i remember the day when i used to worn out High Roller rear in a weekend, just the trail i rode was so sweet and loose and rocky, dusty... the best way to learn how to ride is to ride with worn out tires... in Sopot, Bulgaria, Shambala bike park
Que a ton of comments of people hating on this photograph. In reality this is a better image than almost all of the photos that the haters post. This image brings to mind all of the times you have spent working on your bike, all of those tires you have burned through, and all of the journeys/experiences/adventures that go along with it.
Someone even faved this. What the flaming heck is this? I didn't know someone is actually able to find somekind of a deeper meaning by just looking at a tire.
My High Roller on the rear of my bike is literally worn in a direction, I do so many little skids/Aggy wheel flicks and shit my tyres wear out across the tread...
No thats what a tire looks like after some serious proper riding. Although I think a cheap pair of Kenda's would probably hold out better than this one.
