Wow... that was a hell of a crash. Not to say that it wasn't a bad crash, but when they showed the couple of slow motion replays, it didnt look AS bad as the full speed video (which looked down right horrific). When they slow it down you can see most of the impact from the actual crash into the cliff was thankfully absorbed by the bike. It looked like he did a good job of getting the front end up which let the back wheel (and the shock) soak up some of that impact.
Gee Atherton actually harder than Ironman...How you walked away from that i have NO idea....but massive props for doing it with a busted ankel...get well soon :-)
He did have his share of bad crashes this year. This was pretty bad too: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JKZsjf7Vec went down with about 55kph and rolled 30 meters/100 feet!
And I thought Gee was one tough s.o.b. BEFORE I watched this.......Pretty cool to see an Elite level downhill racer thats willing to go and tackle the most massive stuff at Rampage.
The crashes he has survived would have had me in a pine box.
Gee really is one hell of a great all around mountain biker. The guy is not only willing go huge at Rampage (finishing 2nd twice), but to also be one of the elite (meaning one of the top 3) mens racers as well is pretty damn impressive. Its easy to think that the other top downhill guys could do the same if they tried but I doubt it. I mean look at that one scene, Mick Hannah (correct me if that wasnt Mick but I think it was) was literally scared to ride his bike there, and he's probably one of the top 10 downhill racers is the world.
I'm totally blown away by that crash. I just don't understand what he is made of. Makes me proud to ride a bike with his name on it for sure. Thanks Gee.
I remember seeing the pictures of the crash on vital and thinking , holy shit. But after the video of it , it really puts the whole thing in perspective. He went into the cliff with such speed I'm surprised that he got away with it.
Mad props.
he clearly wanted to do a late suicide nohander over that cliff... but then it just ended up with a suicide... no, gee is a beast! he is one of the best athletes in mountainbiking ever and he is such a cool guy!
Insane slam... Just insane. It's pretty obvious that Gee's physical condition (and sheer luck) saved his life, but how many fit people could honestly take that kind of a wreck and walk away? What an animal. The G man is made of steel.
So much talent, was really looking forward to seeing Gee's line this year. Come to think of it brendogs too. I feel robbed.
Someone run a World Cup there, please !!!!
Gee its a really talented rider, its awesome that he really likes the Rampage. And holy sh@t that last crash was brutal!!!!!!!!!! Get better Gee and good luck next year in WC. Clay stuff its good!!!!!!!!
Amazing that was crazy, massive respect to Gee-the-man. looking forward to next season, should be a fun year. ( sorry correction, should be a fun 3 months of WC racing!!!!)
Gee is a beast of a human. He takes hits like NFL players meeting a mac truck. Good luck Gee, stay healthy, and win some races soon. Your are the man !!!
remember thinking why is there a cliff in front of me? erm probably because there was............................................................BOOM! SLAM ppfff - PUNY CLIFF
I didn't realise how much talent I had i ride just like Gee well the crashing bits anyway LOL except he does it large and with better flare well done Gee your the man.
Honestly, I usually enjoy seeing Gee eat dirt during a race, but that huge wreck made my stomach turn when first shown full speed. That dude is hardcore!
Seriously, this one and Cam Zink ejecting over the canyon gap have got to be a couple of the gnarliest crashes I've seen. Literally unbelievable that they can get up and ride after that stuff. Unbelievable!
but then it just ended up with a suicide...
no, gee is a beast! he is one of the best athletes in mountainbiking ever and he is such a cool guy!
Seriously shocked at how much abuse these riders can take and get away, most of the time, on their own two feet.... wild.
Blasting it looks like art
But if a pro rider can clear a huge gap, then i can do that to. everybody can do it.
You have to really want it.
It is one off the things that really motivate me.
Just one big gap or drop is enough for "now"..
