The dust already settled after a truly epic event in Nuremberg, but it's still very much alive in our hearts. Let's have an in-depth look at four selected bikes. See what some of your favorite riders use and what are their choices for specific parts to be fitted at their bikes. So without any further ado, let's dive into it.
Well, you do see small rider driven innovations. Look at an article from a few years ago and you would see only a handfull of giros. Now? Almost everyone
@j-t-g: The gyros there appear to be standard BMX gyros. There's been a time when several companies experimented with hydraulic gyros which are MTB specific (as modern mountainbikes commonly run hydraulic brakes). It is small stuff. More clever stem top caps for the front brake hose/cable to run through (instead of guide it right through the middle of the cap), thru axles instead of bolt on. In a way it is to be expected though. More than in most other mountainbike disciplines, here it really is pretty much exclusively about rider skill and guts and not about the equipment.
Would have loved to see more steel though for me that's purely sentiment and I understand that for sponsored competing athletes it has little to no advantage over aluminium.
@vinay: Slope loosely referring to slopestyle comp. I don't doubt that you had a hardtail dirtjumper with a gyro. I'm talking about adoption by pro slope athletes.
Shifter on the water bottle mount. Everyone went to 100mm travel for some reason. I want a hydraulic gyro setup, but apparently they 're garbage. Road's as big as your imagination when it comes to bike ideas.
since they're mounted on a couple of bikes: what is the average lifespan of these carbon SRAM cranks for jumping? On a side note, Szymon seems to run a pretty tall gear. Is it 36-14 or 13?
@Niko182: I already knew that, Eagle only came out last year. Too early to see if they're properly durable or not. It'd be funny if you had full eagle on a slope bike, huge climbing gear but only a 12" seat tube
I love seeing pro bikes that are kinda banged up. The pro DH stuff where everyone has a fancy paint job... it just feels like they're in a different sport.
@adrennan: I had them build me an Edit earlier this spring - XXL with the tall can head tube (I'm 6'5"). Carter is super easy to deal with and the price for a built-to-order steel DJ bike is reasonable. Build quality is solid too!
I have a Chromag monk which is a steel beauty as well. There are definitely people making steel DJ frames, my point was not many of the companies sponsoring FMB riders, like Specialized, Trek, Canyon, Rose, etc
@adrennan: I was stating the brands that were competing in Red Bull District as @plyawn said those brands in the article don't make steel frames anymore which isn't the case
Was on a beddo during the last comp, think he was on green bikes for a while, before was ns decade. He was on beddo before when they only had cromo frames
It's for the gyro system. Having a cable splitter makes for a weak point in the brake and makes them less powerful. So odyssey came out with a lever that holds two cables that feed directly into the gyro.
dual cables from lever to brake are WAY much easier to set up an keep balanced but, with a disc brake it will only be the upper. Interested to see if tektro's/TRP new hydraulic caliper will take off

This is the bike that sparked the mech gyro / odyssey lever / sram bb7 road brake on all the slope bikes: www.pinkbike.com/news/champions-bike-brandon-semenuks-trek-ticket-s-2014.html
Amazing to see the level of riding that can be accomplished with a simple aluminium hardtail.
(joking)

come on beddo if you read this, don't be shy
