Slopestyle's evolution is so intrinsically linked with Crankworx that it's hard to think of one without the other. And as Crankworx has progressed over the years, with an endless volley of increasingly challenging slopestyle courses, so have the riders and their bikes. Once the sun finally broke through the clouds and rain that has been wreaking havoc here in Les Gets, the slopestyle elite made full use of the break in the weather and hit the hill in force to get their eye in on this new course. We were there too and took a closer look at their specialist machines...

Steel is Real - Ryan Nyquist's Haro Reserve

We're just a bit stoked to have Ryan in our world right now. Not only because he's a legend or because he's one of the best bike riders in the world, but because he's the most down to earth guy you could hope to bump into at an event like Crankworx. It's also awesome to hear how much fun he's having riding mountain bikes too.

Ryan's Haro looks like a 26" BMX which is not surprising considering Haro and Ryan know a thing or two about BMX.

Ryan's Deity cockpit and gyro set up looked pretty dialled.

Carbon and steel all-round.

There are quite a few guys here running Profile hubs.

Cable operated disc brakes are pretty popular right now.

A custom reduced travel Fox 36 is about as stiff as you can get.

Plastic Fantastic - Yannick Granieri's Prototype YT

There are only a few of these bikes in existence, but that's about to change so watch this space...

YT have spent a lot of time developing this beauty and it shows.

Ben Walker and the team at Scott custom painted Louis' YZ in this awesome 'petrol slick' style paint scheme that you really have to see with your own eyes. It was still covered in mud from the Speed and Style contest when we took this photo, which only backs up how pinned the athletes are thanks to an ever-changing schedule, maximising every ounce of sunshine.

Paul's prototype Mongoose slopestyle machine runs on a standard single pivot system and a full SRAM livery.

We're not sure what 'Ride or Die' is yet, but watch this space...

This guy... One of the wildest and one of the nicest too, Frenchman, Antoine is the guy to watch at any event.

Code brakes for when you need maximum stopping power.

A neck brace and full-face? Pretty damn sensible in our books!

The Shonky's horizontal dropouts are some of the neatest out there.

Brett Rheeder's Custom Painted Trek Ticket

Trek's athletes always have some of the most dialled graphics and paint and Brett's new ride is no different.

Nicolai Rogatkin's Specialized P3

Always buzzing and pushing the limits, we're big fans of Nicolai and his P3 is pretty rad too.

We covered Ergon's new DH specific saddle earlier this week, but the German 'contact point' connoisseurs have another new saddle in the works. This is their prototype slopestyle saddle, sporting a marginally stumpier nose - Nicolai said it's going to get even 'stumpier' as they progress through the prototyping stage.

Nicolai's hydraulic gyro was one of the cleanest setups here at Crankworx.

Nah only gyros that use electrical tape are ghetto. Ones with zip ties are dialled, although apparently the use of a chris king headset completely offsets the use of leccy tape, getting a verdict of "far from ghetto" although not fully dialled.

Agreed I think because he's a smaller dude they won't bend, but it makes a good bike look ugly and a bike that's been out for a few years look like it's not fully developed a comfortable geometry for its rider yet

Hydraulic gyros are the shit, pretty cool stuff. I read an article that said Brandon Semenuk was angry about how bad his was(it kept leaking or something), so he went back to a long cable wrap job. Personally it's not rocket science, so it's kind of surprising to see professionals running mechanical, but at the same time, pretty well anybody could have all the best equipment in the world, and still not hold a candle to them.

I think it's pointed at the fact Pilgrim crushes his BB bearings a little bit so his cranks don't move when he takes his feet off them

I broke 2 pairs in a year. They are stiff but nothing beats XTR. Also the bearings thing is probably true, you only need one or two muddy rides with a race face BB and it'll choose not to turn again!!!!
