I'll be the first to tell you that none of this is because of luck. Mike is the hardest working athlete I've ever known. He's creative, incredibly driven, and the most stubborn human you'll ever meet. He'll drive you crazy, but once you realize it's all for the sake of creating something amazing, you just kind of learn to deal with it. I've been fortunate enough to work with Mike on a number of cool things throughout the years, but most notably - our DreamRide projects. When the idea popped in my head for the first one I couldn't think of anyone better to steer that ship. Mike took a concept and made magic. He is the ultimate dreamer, the ultimate doer, and when he is on board with an idea, will stop at nothing to make sure it's done in the best possible way.  In honesty, and it's going to sound super cliche', but my nightmare would be, looking back on life and thinking of all the things I should have done. So I am trying to make sure there's nothing left on the table. I try to stay pretty positive, so the nightmares are few and far between eh. Haven't had one in years haha

 No Dino's were hurt in the making of DreamRide. But Secco almost managed to fall off a Frozen waterfall in Alberta. Plenty of close calls on the human front.

 It seems like you're one of the few riders around that has managed to walk the line of staying relevant without necessarily competing all the time, whether in slopestyle, enduro, DH, etc. How'd you manage to make the professional rider thing a reality, and what does it take to keep it going when so much attention seems focused on the competitive sides of the sport?

 I have always looked for the potential in what people aren't doing, instead of what's hot right now. Timing has definitely been on my side. I have always had a passion for creative visuals and the adventure aspects of the outdoors, and with the help of some of my amazing friends I was able to carve my own little spot in the sport. I was never a competiton guy. There has always been a drive to put in the effort to something visual and walk away with an end result that hopefully speaks to your everyday person as much as the mountain bike community. In short, if you feel strongly enough about something, make it happen and do it the best you possibly can. If it makes you happy then don't worry about the critics.

 Mike! Dave here. How ironic I read that you like Jurassic Park and that if you could, you'd film it there. Well, that huge valley we shot above on the rim trail, Jurassic Park was partially filmed there!!!! hd I known i would brought you folks to some of the spots. Question, what was the hardest challenge to overcome when you folks were here on the Big ISland, logistic, culture shock, anything?

 DAAAAAAVE!!!! MY MAN! Well it definitely wasn't culture haha. The hardest challenge is figuring out how to repay you guys for your overwhelming bottomless hosiptaily! You guys are awesome! The biggest logistic with Hawaii was probably the weather buddy. But that is from a clearly film base perspective. You guys live in Paradise homes!

 Hi Mike, I work more than 12 hours a day and have very little time to ride (I rode once in 2 years). I'm assuming you make your living biking (I don't know your story), if you knew you could help millions of people by working very hard and foregoing your love for biking, would you do it?

 I think there is a balance. If you are helping millions of people I would say you are doing something amazing and you should be proud and motivated by that. You also have to make time to do things just for yourself. A little distance from the everyday grind will re-ignite that drive to get back at it.

Do you have kids or something? I work 10-12hrs a day and ride 3-5 times a week, albeit during the winter I resort to night riding...but it's still a blast and with modern LEDs you can haul ass

 Will we see a DreamRide3 soon? if so how about shooting bits of it Japan? There're some crazy sceneries going on here.

Also, I wonder what inspires/motivates you when looking for that perfect spot or deciding which picture/shot goes into the video and what gets cut off.

 Japan is definitely on the radar. Ultimately we look for a place where the environment speaks for itself, but we also look at the logistics, like access, weather, light, all these are a factor when you have 4 crew on foot carrying camera gear. It makes life pretty rough if you have a 20km hike before you have even pull out the camera.

If you could freeze time right now and focus everything on developing a skill set that doesn't get enough attention, what would it be & why?

 You go on these amazing bike adventures all over the world. From time to time things happen and you are left in a situation you did not plan for. What is your best backcountry fix to be able to countinue on? Have you ever had to get a ridding buddy out of a really scetchy situation due to injury?

 I've definitely been out in some sketchy situations, one where a buddy and I got caught unprepared in a white out snow storm for 15hrs, had to build a shelter to fight off hypothermia. Leatherman bailed us out. You learn from you mistakes and once you're out the other side you have a hell of a story and hopefully all you fingers. I always carry a set of waterproof watches and a couple heli straps in case you need to splint a leg or arm.

 What's the scariest line, maybe not the biggest but scariest for you, that you've pulled off and were you confident you would nail or had doubts?

 The scariest line was probably not my biggest. The last year I did Rampage, I knew it would be my last year, because even though I was super confident, I was legitmately scared and knew that that ship had sailed. It wasn't fun for me anymore. I want to show people how awesome riding is and I felt (from my standpoint) there were more effective ways of doing it. Plus some of the craziest situations I've had on a bike have come on Adventure based trips where you are battling the elements. In those situations it's more about what you know, than how big you go and I dig it!

 I ride the Diamondback Release 3 and it's sick! The new Level Link suspension platfrom has made it my go to bike! I try to help with the development as much as I can, but in all honesty I am way more of a visual, creative guy, and not so much a numbers guy. Porter is the man when it comes to putting bike feel into numbers.

I may have missed a question already asked that is similar, here goes: As an athlete where do get your inspiration for your ideas, and what is your first step in making them a reality?  Hey Brian!

I have touched on it before but In short I pick and chose the projects I put energy into. If I feel strongly about a concept or Idea then I don't let anything stand in my way. I just go for it. That being said, I say "I" but really it's a we thing. I have a such a motivated, creative, and committed group of talented individuals that I am lucky enough to share these ideas with and as a whole we make these things happen. There is no way these projects would ever come together without the work of the collective whole. It takes an insane amount of work on everyones part to pull these things off. Inspiration comes from everywhere though. Scotty Carlson at Juicy Studios is the main guy I bounce Ideas off and him and I have a way of building some really outlandish projects. It's a team thing!

 My perspective has changed over the years for sure. There were my Rampage years, where I was just trying to prove to myself that I could hang with the fellas, but Ultimately I hardly ever rode like that. I have always been creatively focused and I saw more potential, not to mention longevity in riding the flowing trails that didn't scare the sh#t out of me. At the end of the day I just wanted to show my version of fun, and it wasn't hucking booters in the desert. It might be an age thing, and I totally respect those guys. They're the tip of the sword. It's just not my jam anymore.

 There's a common theme here that you enjoy the creative side of the sport vs competition. How much did you rely on connections (friends, filmmakers etc.) vs racing or competitions to get your name out there and get to where you are today?

 From Day 1. I knew after my first competition that I didn't want to go the competition route. I was fortunate to meet Derek Frankowski just as we were both starting out. Him and I teamed up and never looked back. I have managed to forge some of the best friendships and working relationships with very talented guys. We found our common ground in work ethic. Like training for competition, we bust our asses to make sure shots are the best we can make them.

 It was super strange, creepy and awesome. I mean it was a bit of a mission to get in there, had to loosen the stem and turn the bars sideways to squeeze through the entrance with the bike, and then once you're in there we kept having this feeling that the roof was going to drop on our heads because the floor is riddled with debris... good times haha. Anything for the shot haha.

How hard was it for you to be a pro in two action sports and did you ever have any times when you schedule conflicted?

 It was awesome! but yeah, very hard. That's why I stepped back from skiing. I felt that my efforts were getting too divided, so I chose to focus on one. Put all my efforts into doing MTB to the best of my ability, and keep skiing as something fun I did with my friends.

 I grew up in a small mountain town called Rossland and it has a massive bike culture. So you could say I was a product of the environment, plus I followed my Dad and older brother everywhere and they were both super into it. So Naturally little bro wants to be better than Big Bro. The battle still rages!

 We definitely found a few hidden gems thanks to are buddies Dave and Jason. They are locals in Hilo and they showed us the goods. Us Haole's would have been pretty hard pressed to make this thing what it is without those guys. Locals know best.

 We do have plans to do something really special with this entire DreamRide Series. But with that said it all comes down to budget. At the moment we're just taking it one step at a time. If we can make it happen you know we will haha... I'll keep you guessing.

 I started when I was like 6 or 7, My brother and I would bomb around the woods on our push brake bikes. I grew up around bikes, so I feel pretty lucky that I get to call it a career. I've been with DB for 3 years now and it's been awesome. There are so few companies out there that are willing to stray from the standard marketing approach, but DB is not one of them. They have supported our ideas from day one and enabled us to produce films with a different perspective. I couldn't be more stoked!

 I still love skiing, but it's definitely taken a back seat to MTB. I recently got outfitted by the fine folks at Salomon as I have a few Ski projects I would like to see come to life. My main focus and passion these days is definitely two wheels though. I see so much potential when it comes to creativity in both sports. Skiing definitely influences my approach to riding.

 It's all about continuity. It wouldn't feel like one continuous ride if the kit kept changing, so for the sake of film I bite the bullet and took on the cold. We hit a low temp of -20 on the frozen lake. Too close to frostbite!
