To be honest, this type of filming... no music... just the sounds of being there, is better than any over produced and slick ad style campaign event film ever. Its like you are standing there by the jump with his family, and you get to hear comments from Strait, and he hugs his daughter. This... this is great filming. Same with riding footage with no music... just the hubs singing and the rider whooping it up, id rather have this stuff all day.
@chrisingrassia: To be fair, most of the time there is an analyst on the broadcast who has done it, like Cam McCaul on the Rampage Broadcast. And most of the time the other guys in the booth leave it to that guy to analyze what is happening (since thats why he is there). People like to get on the broadcasters (like Pat Parnell on the Rampage broadcast) because they aren't riders, but they have to have a professional broadcaster on to run the show. They can't just stick a couple riders in there and expect a good broadcast. There is skill to what they do and how they make the broadcast flow and connect the elements of the show together.
I feel that for sure. It is somewhat shocking to have an insight like this into how fucking gnarly this stuff really is. TO not even say ow after that first crash is outrageous.
It helps when the shooter knows what he's doing. Very fluid and intuitive close camerawork, especially in the initial exchange between Zink and Strait. Not all shooters understand that.
@choppertank3e: I’m not sure what your issue is. I never said Cam McCaul wasn’t a good analyst. I’m just saying you can’t just throw a rider or riders out there alone and expect a good broadcast. You have to have a real trained broadcaster in their with them to run the broadcast. Read up on Rob Warner and how much broadcasting training he has done since red bull took over the downhill broadcasts. And how shocked he was about how much really goes into being the lead man on a professional broadcast.
@sino428: Just compare Rampage to any of the crankworx slope events where they no longer had a non rider in the booth just the McCauls and a rider, Micayla, as the interview girl.
Crazy that it popped out on the one he was gonna roll out of. That's the problem with that type of shoulder instability. It can hold up through the gnarliest stuff but then you put just the right torque at just the right angle and boom.
It's gonna be amazing seeing that dude back on a bike, healthy and shoulder trouble free. I really think he's set up to do some truly amazing things over the next few years.
yeah, looks like pushing up on it while crashing was totally good to go but then pulling on the bars it just popped right out. He was so close to pulling it off too. I hope he stays healthy for rampage this year, he always brings something crazy to the table.
@keeqan: Was similar to how it popped out a few days earlier on the ridge ride before they started digging. He pulled up and it just popped out. I'm honestly surprised he made it through as much as he did. Dude's a freakin pit pull. Tough, strong willed. Gnar.
@smoothmoose: Yea thats exactly what happened. With his particular injury pulling to hard is what causes it to pop out. He had explained it in an interview around the time it happened.
His family just makes it for me. The wife, super cool and supportive. Never in the way or freaking out like my wife would be. Kids just so relaxed, I guess because it's all they've ever known. Great family dynamic.
@jaame: have you ever watched the Cam Zinck documentary? His wife is super cool, but she absolutely does freak out a little. She’s def not relaxed when he’s doing shit like rapage.
@jaame: oh for sure. I didn’t mean to suggest anything bad about them. Just saying that she does pretty much freak out when he’s doing what he does. Not in a bad way though. Not like giving him shit or telling him not to do things. Totally supportive, Just that she’s a nervous wreck just like anyone else would be.
I don't know about you, but I have two small kids. I want to take my time teaching them the appropriate times and places to use expletives. Yes, they know the swear words. I want them to know that using them in every sentence is not really acceptable in polite company. Of you're a mountain biker maybe, bit what if you work in an office or a school? One cannot go around swearing all the time as a normal part of speech. So the answer to your question is, we beep the words out for the sake of our kids.
Mr. Zink you sir are one of the people that keep pushing this sport forward. Thanks for putting out this video. It’s honest and raw which is what makes it so engaging to watch. It’s fascinating because it shows what’s occurring on several levels. How hard it is to pull this stuff off. It displays the humanity and limitations of pushing the boundaries of what is actually possible for us to do within these muscle and bone frames as we come up against their limitations. Heal up soon sir. The sport would never be the same without you out there sending it!
thanks for sharing this with us! I'd love to see more of these up-close documentary style vids. Could watch any of these guys for hours just dialing their line.
So the answer to your question is, we beep the words out for the sake of our kids.
But a Big hug helps ! Heal up Cam !
So much gnarlier than those 1/4 mile away shots make it look.
