"Winter Depression," a phrase commonly used by mountain bikers to describe the prohibition of riding during the winter season. With cold weather and overwhelming amounts of snow in many of mountain biking's hot spots, this phrase holds relevance to an abundance of riders. For Tyler Gorz, "Winter Depression" is non-existent. Living near the coastal mountains in British Columbia, he has access to some of the best year round riding in the world. Rain, frozen ground, and snow at higher elevations are to be expected, but these aspects only provoke a style that showcases the strength and precision of Tyler's riding. In this video Tyler takes control of his cold winter environment and proves that "Winter Destruction" is way better than being depressed.

Best part of this entire video is that there was NO SLOW MOTION!!!! Now add some metal and it would be siiick!
  • 28 3
Song was perfact...im a big metal fan but unfortunately metal makes bike videos look hella redneckish hahahahah
  • 4 1
I agree, less slow mo means more angles of shredding

so happy this wasn't an enduro video
  • 3 0
does it look like an enduro video in the thumb nails?
  • 2 5
no. i just wanted to show my appreciation for a good dh video during this enduro fad
  • 3 1
Its not a fad.... It will become a bigger "fad" than dh. I love dh... love it!, but this new "fad" will be bigger than dh because first of all you need one bike not two, unfortunately not everyone has access to a dh park all year around but most have access to a enduro style type park. Plus i personally things it is way more challenging than dh thats why i race enduro.
  • 5 0
I don't think you can say one is more challenging than the other, they are both challenging in there own right.

sweet just made me want to go for a ride right now

Gorzy pins. He's deceptively fast though because he's so smooth. Consistent contender for BC Cup podiums and always fun to watch trackside, BC Cup elite riders like Gorz and Dean Tennant can make an event for spectators.

Eff yeah! I love the Pacific Northwest! The smell, the beauty, that feeling of being hugged by the trees because of their height and density. I've got to go ride the Mission area.

Quick, hide! Before the geography police come:

bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=152511

P.S. I always thought we are considered part of the PNW as well Smile seems like some folks disagree.
  • 2 2
For those who want to effectively communicate, the "Pacific Northwest" is a valid way to refer to the region. It is as accurate as any other geographical name. The "Mid-West" of the united states is in the eastern half of the country. The "Northwest West Territories" of Canada is neither the most northern or western of provinces. The "North Shore" is actually west of most Canadians. And what about the "Northwest Passage"? Even the name of the capital of China suffers from this problem. There are literally hundreds of thousands if not millions more examples. What are we supposed to do? Rename most of the planet?

Basically, the only reason to argue over the term is to pick a fight because the person is angry about some other subject. If someone starts up this argument, the best thing to do is find out what they're actually angry about.

 @dfiler

It is all arbitrary naming anyways, and I personally don't give a rat's ass. But from what I have observed it is usually the Canadians of BC who are adamantly opposed to be included in the PNW, while the Americans argue otherwise.

One thing to note however, the ecology of southern-west BC is fundamentally different than the north-western part of USA. The Coast Mountains are an entirely different experience than the rest of what is known as PNW.

Wow! lol! you're all ridiculous. Go ride your bike now. Wink

The biome doesn't magically change due to a political border on a map. Instead, it gradually changes as you move in any direction. Or if moving across a mountain range, it can change dramatically. But for useful conversation purposes, the "pacific northwest" does a good job of grouping similar environments together. Of course you can get extremely detailed and scientific and draw distinctions beyond that, but I don't think that is why most people pick this fight. They don't actually expect everyone in the world to distinguish between different biomes every 100 or 200 kilometers. That would require everyone to know about hundreds of thousands of tiny distinctions.

Instead, this particular argument is almost always a result of disliking the US for other reasons, mostly political and cultural. The ironic thing is, I actually agree with almost all complaints leveled by Canadians against the US. But wanting to pick a fight about cardinal directions in a name, that's just pointless.

Note that Alaska, as part of the US, would also make this name illogical for Americans. But whatever, it doesn't make any sense for the Japanese either.

Moral of the story? Don't start arguments over stupid things like the word "north" appearing in a name. If you've got a problem, address it straight on rather than letting it invade every other unrelated conversation.

When ever I ride with that Gorz kid, I always ask him what speed he's riding at......he always replies that it's 80-90%.....I too think it's a 120%.(edit. I have no idea on the filming, i'm just talking about how fast he rides, lol)
  • 4 0
love the darkness of the video, the whole edit was just dope

You can't please everyone. I appreciate you guys out there, setting up cameras in the cold, riders who shred sections over and over just to get the ride shot. Thanks! Great video.

Sweet riding and trails! Could have looked as fast as it really was if it was filmed with a video camera and not a dslr. Does anyone shoot with a HVX anymore?
  • 2 1

beautiful: being hated for killing those berms, the way you went in n through, thats what i / we wanna see Wink
..nice edit + excellent riding, made me stoked!
  • 1 0
Maybe you do, I kinda like Berms when they're not all destroyed. Their my local trails and I got a feeling a lot of Race guys aren't heading back up there to put some stomp time in to fix them. I dunno, we know your fast but guaranteed he can clear all the jumps braking before the berm and have enough speed. Dudes got loads of skill though.
  • 1 0
dont need to mention this. Without a doubt most trailbuilder/s are sad to see others just drive by, droppin in, rippin (or not) propably 'harder' than the builder himself, the so loved holy trail, without any diggin, nor respect to all the hours of work spent out there in the woods.
But, finally, doesnt it make you just proud or happy to see great clips* like this!? *feat. your trail ..
...for me it looks fun. Wink

Glad everyone has enjoyed the video so much, Rupert and I put a ton of work into it! Thanks for all the cool comments!
To goingbig and ampa, the only 2 corners that are getting torn up a bit aren't berms being destroyed they are just a couple flat turns and they are way off the beaten path, they aren't on a local trail at all. Myself and others such as samdemo do a TON of work on Burke and have already been up numerous times cutting out sketchy deadfall to make the trails ride able again. And to ampa the one section on eagle that is in the video I hiked all the way in through the snow with my saw to make it ride able and the ground was hard as concrete so no roost :-)

Thanks again for watching!
