Our summer has finally drawn to a close, but that's not enough of an excuse to stop us from riding hard. In this episode, 'The Girls' show us exactly how committed they are to the progression of women's Freeride Mountain Biking. Get ready to watch them send it during the closing weeks of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.

Videos like this and women who throw down make my day... They make my week. This video? It made my year... No, really. This and Claire Buchar's part in WTTE made me so proud to be a woman and so excited for the direction that lady riding is going. Way to throw out a great video with some awesome riding, ladies. You rock!
here in whis, we have ladies nights in the bike park every monday and weds.
supportive feedback and encouragement from both the coach and the group made it such a positive experience.
having someone say, "send it, you got this" was the reassurance i needed to get stoked.
spread the stoke.
Women use different techniques in some situations and also learn from different methods than men do because one of the biggest differences is that women tend to think a bit more rationally than men do when it comes to physical danger. From what I know as a guy that has ridden with and taught some women how to ride, it's all about teaching them specifically how to do things or explaining techniques in a way that works for them (ex. riding over a tall object such as a fallen log to use more leg power/momentum vs. simple upper body strength) as well as keeping it as fun and supportive as possible.
There's some great write ups about this that goes way more in depth and well consulting a woman rider, like some that have already commented on here, is the best way to get information on getting women into riding.
Also that was a tight edit! Some of that was pretty wild.
Wait, so women question their ability? So do men, and we don't take other men to make us improve.
Proper techniques? Seriously? Fall enough, you will learn.
And confidence? Come on, what you need a guy to show you how to be confident? I've bough tons of girls into the sport, and treated them no different than the guys. It's seriously sad when you basically make it seem that guys need to "baby" girls, "show them techniques", and build their "confidence". Woman the eff up, get on the bike and shred.
When it comes down to it the whole "girl" ordeal is bs, because they can rip as hard as us, if they get some bollocks and just do it. It doesn't take a "man helping them" for them to do it. You like it or you don't. Woman up and shred it. Period.
And my ordeal is absolutely anti sexist. Women need NO, repeat NO, absolutely NO help what so ever from guys. Just DO IT. Period. No, well " my buddy helped give me confidence". it's like giving a girl a gun. Hand it to her, say woman up, and do it. Boom, she does it. Not say "heres how you hold it honey". That's complete BS.
And the whole get another lady to teach her. BS. How many guys had a guy "teach them". You learn by falling and getting hurt. Learn to man the eff up, get on your bike and keep hittin it until you do it. You don't need teachers. This is not physical fitness. If it takes someone to show you something other than riding without training wheels... then I feel sorry for you, both male and female.
I'm taking this personally. be very clear about that. Your rant is not only obnoxious and uncalled for; it's inappropriate and extremely hostile. So. I'll respond in kind.
Hey, bud -- the first time I ever got on a DH bike was at Deer Valley on the same trail where they held the NORBA World Cup on a borrowed bike from 1990. So yes, some pointers (such as "ass off the seat, dammit!" And "elbows out, chest down") helped just a bit. I didn't say that I was nursed into DH; I said I had some support from someone who believed in me... That's a crime now?!? Okay....
If you understood the psychology behind male to male interaction, you'd also understand that the phrase, "jut hit it already, you p*ssy!" Is the same thing as a guy telling me that he knows I've got the skills and that I just need to go for it. Different strokes for different folks.
I never said to baby her, and I never said that a woman can't progress on her own. Many women do -- suh as the ladies in this video. I too rode all summer, learning as I went and breaking myself off. If you want, I'll send you all of the X-rays: from the time when I blew out both lungs and shattered my sternum from overshooting a 20 foot table, but was back out 11 days after to keep pushing my riding; or how about that double shoulder separation in six weeks? Or maybe bring forward the ladies who KILLED it in Virgin at Rampage as we supported each other and spread the love? So... Yeah. Shut up. My riding buddies are dudes. Most of my friends are dudes. And yet, however offensive their anti-lady shit talking gets, they never seem to mind educating another soul who's willing to ask questions and learn.
If you can't add anything positive to this conversation, shut the f*ck up. We need guys like you in MTB like a dead man could use another hole in his head. The guy above asked how to get a girl into riding and all you do is hate?!? Crawl back under your rock, you insufferable dick.
I wouldn't take it too personally from rffr though. I took a quick peek at some if his other posts/comments and he seems like a huge tool.
I also have ridden with a lot of girls in the past few years and usually it is just as with the guys:
You progress if you have fun. Everyone has his own pace, some need to be pushed (so do I), some prefer a more tender way. From my experience there is no such thing as a big difference in the ways guys and girls shred. I pretty happy though that there are more and more girls step up and ride hard!
When riding with girls I basically threat them as I thread the guys, only with a little less swearing. But that counts for each and every situation in life.
@GabrielDugas - the fact that you're even asking for tips shows that you're an awesome guy and you're girl is lucky to have someone so motivated to get them into mtb. I went to a party many years ago and met a great guy who offered to take me mountain biking for the very first time. We now have been married 6 years and have so many mountain biking adventures together. He will get all the credit for teaching me how to ride and now I am at a level where I don't slow him down and we can do any trail together. I also love riding with girls and am consistently inspired by girls who ride....this video makes me even more inspired!

I personally don't see what you have gained or given to thsi thread with your trash talk!
Rant over.... Great vid and great to see girls shredding!
Like, when I watch the rampage or something I'm never really caring how awesome they are cos I know I will never do that crazy stuff.
But when I watch this it is like, stuff I hope to learn to ride next season (I'm a beginner) and it actually gives me a psychological advantage seeing this because jaknow, if they can do it then I should be able to do it too.
OK hopefully that didn't come off as sexist but I'm going to try some gnarlier shit now cos these ladies are awesome.
The vid doesn't do the size of some of some of the stunts any justice. Those girls have some balls...
great riding, keep it up
Thanks so much! and best wishes to you as well

Oh my god I know these girls! But in all seriousness great work, Ruc, Trish, and Dee.
Wish I knew how to post the actual gif...
....not sure I could hang on some of those jumps/gaps though!
Thanks for rehosting this one...watching now
Why must we have a 10 second damsel in distress part instead of showing her wipe and move on as would happen in any clip featuring a bunch of dudes?
Purple is my go to.
and D is rad. Ain't nobody got time for 'distress'
I have seen countless videos that either begin or end in a hospital bed. Although this video couldn't match the awesome/awkward noise Cam McCaul makes when he fell of that freight container. the principle is still the same. Video=proof.
Plus, i would much rather see somebody high five and laugh while lying on the ground than flipping through their goggle collection and/or bike quiver.
I didn't even grab no shoes or nothin'
Key word here being "portrayed" a video shoot by definition is a portrayal of facts in a certain light. The composition of the material inevitably determines the perception of the material. A decent camera and editing room will make gold from crap. Film crews routinely take shots of dudes riding and edit them to look more impressive (be it during or after the shoot by means of camera angle or jumpcuts) but I find this habit lacking with edits featuring chicks.
@TheDayHam "I love the comments on every "girls who ride video." Why do we always want to judge a women's video differently than a mans? "
I don't want to, that's the point. But to judge the video differently requires for it not to be shot and edited differently as well. This unfortunately is rarely (if ever) the case.
More girls riding and videos is great. End of. :-)
