Red Bull Rampage 2014: Qualification Results to be Finalized Saturday

Due to lightening and anticipated thunder storms for late afternoon, Run 2 of the Red Bull Rampage Qualifiers are on hold. After nearly half the field was able to complete their second runs, stormy weather caused the event to be paused. An attempt to complete the remaining runs of qualification will begin Saturday, September 25th at 9am. If weather does not allow for the finish of the second runs, the first run scores will count as final and the top 10 athletes will move on to Sunday’s Final.

 Have fun spending your Sunday being bored then scandiumrider. Can't just let a dude in when he hasn't qualified. I like aggy as much as they next guy, but I can imagine that most of the other riders that have to qualify would be super pissed if the organizers simply circumvented the pre existing rules to let one guy in when he has yet to deserve it. #berationalpeople

 My question is why does aggy even have to qualify? He's one of the most influential freeriders of all time and at the top of his game. - Pierre Edouard Ferry - Ramon Hunziker are pre-qualified and Graham Agassiz isn't? No offence to these guys. I'm sure they rip, but why would aggy be pre quilfied?

 Aggy isn't pre-qualified because it has something to do with last years results and a few other things. Aggy didn't fit the conditions but I really hope he throws down big 2nd quali run!!!

 The top ten from last year make up the pre qualified list.

 Problem with Rampage setup is they are not allowing for weather. And they have a B.S. qualification round. If you are a rider of a certain caliber then there should be only an invite. We know who they are. If you are a say a non sponsored rider (I.e. like Will White was the last 2 years) or do not have freeride/sponsor/movies/pro DH credit then Red Bull should hold a pre qualification at one of the old sights well in advanced before the week of digging begins. Then come Rampage week...less stress everyone digging is in the finals. Have the big day on Saturday. ..If weather goes to shit...finish it on Sunday. And you can put my check in the mail Redbull!

 I feel certain top FREERIDERS get shafted with the qualification round. Guys like Aggy, Gully, Doerfling, Hopkins, NORBS, and for bloody sakes, BOURDON...(the only old school freerider attending who should have a red carpet open invitation) should not have to pre-qualify. They are all true freerider/big mountain riders that are pushing the sport the hardest. They are Rampage! Making Rampage part of the FMB series is B.S. there is nothing slope style about Rampage. If you can throw down sick tricks, more points for you. But really it IMO it comes down to the smoothest, gnarliest line, with some flair throw in.

 Damn, that's a good idea. I was thinking something along that line except instead of qualifying into finals, that pre-event at the old site or wherever, will be a way to have people earn invitations to the actual event and they can say allow a few more people into the event with no quali's. Getting an invite in the first place is insanely tough and involves a lot of politics. Your idea though is just as good... weather has been playing a huge factor in the Rampage events lately and there needs to be a bigger window for the event to happen in case of weather. Hell its a big enough production you'd think Red Bull and CBS would want that in case if it happens to rain multiple days in a row.

 Dirty you nailed it. If someone like Bourdon can still rip then the carpet should be rolled out. They could prequalify everyone then have alternates in case of injury. A lot of sporting events do this and it works.

He beat Nico Vink, Brandon Semenuk, Martin Söderström, Ramon Hunziker, Brett Rheeder, Pierre Edouard Ferry, Darren Berrecloth and Brendan Howey in 2012 and he beat Geoff Gulevich, Nico Vink, Graham Agassiz, Kyle Norbraten, Brendan Howey, Mike Hopkins, James Doerfling, Antoine Bizet, Brandon Semenuk and Josh Raynor in 2013. He may not throw the big slopestyle moves, but he hucks with crazy style. I think the whole prequalifier thing is a joke. Everyone invited should get a chance at the final.

 Purely just asking why he was invited as in how was he discovered, what were his previous achievements, web edits etc that made him noticed and become an invitee.  Even better, we should be able to Vote somewhere for the last 2 riders. If Pre-Qualifiers are out, let's replace them with 2 from the Qualifiers who haven't made the Top 10.

The bad weather is messing up the Round 2 of Qualifying and it's unlikely they will able to compete due to heavy rain. If that's the case then they are going with the Top 10 from the runs they were able to get in before the weather got bad. Two of the Pre-Qualifiers are out. Let's make some things right and Vote for 2 riders from the remaining Qualifiers (11-26) who we think should be there! All in favor, vote for this comment and maybe Rampage will take notice. Vote for the 2 remaining riders on Redbull.com or Pinkbike or....somewhere.

 Don't think you understand. The Pre-Qualifiers didn't have to do Qualification. they were already invited and going to Finals. The Qualifying was for are the next 10 riders. Since two of the Pre-Qualifiers couldn't make it due to injuries before Rampage, let's replace them with two of the 11th-26th placed riders who we think should be there. They are getting shafted by the bad weather situation and event format so this will at least help a couple of guys out. It will still suck for the the ones who missed their chance at Round 2 of Qualifying.

 This sucks. I've been so stoked for this weekend, if rain cancels tomorrow, everything should get pushed out a day and have finals on Monday. It's super lame any of the invitees need to qualify, shouldn't the damn invite mean you qualify? Super lame.

 And it has been delayed till Monday... sucks for a lotta us who had to head back up but the dirt was perfect today and got to ride Flying Monkey to King Kong. It was incredible and nerve racking. Thank god its being streamed online.

also look closely at those scores , aggy crashed hard on the huge drop right ... so how hard and bad did they other guys crash ... how bad was it for the guys who DNF ... no posts on any of the real tragedies ...
and i havent gotten started on there "wheres so and so" not even on the list no info given , but we all saw them in the vids of hype diggn lines ... i hope they were guys who said this isnt worth it and didnt even stay , IE fairclough not on the list wheres gee anymore after being broke off last year .. etc etc UGH WTF F**K IT the rage is real lol

 ...sigh .... no, fairclough is there, in the vids ,was last year too , do you even know the riders ... his name is mysteriously not there , how about howey wheres he at he was riding this event, how about vanderham we all heard he wasnt there , then they showed one pic with him there but no word if hes running , hopkins said he wasnt going to be there but he is , and gee was there last year and many years before that he had a bad crash and theres no word about his invite whats up etc ... its just one of the many points i brought up but if you wanna focus on that there you go . and your speculation is just that my fact is there ZERO actual info on this and its clear , the event is a joke. rampage can make hype videos all day but not simple press releases posts info even the silly narrator could tell us in a hype vid where the biggest names that put this event on the map are ... how about the bear have you heard his name even uttered ... this shit is rage-inducing for me at this point lol but whatever i am not even going to watch this year as ive said many times , its not rampage and id rather not possibly see someone die live ... watch how fast everyone points fingers and cries about safety then ... and watch how fast the tv event dries up and sponsors get called out and abandon it YET AGAIN ... this event should have just stayed the grassroots event it was with a damn kickstarter for us to actually give to the athletes to pay for stuff they actually need and want/pay for the land use etc etc.

 or is it because they need to lure a new pack of kids to toss them into the death pit because they broke off all the old guys who made rampage and can no longer do it or are unwilling to , ps gee is a redbull sponsored athlete who podiumed rampage in 2010 and was there both years after that with an invite and pre qualified. my point is they know what they are doing and why and they know they need new blood to spill. and it sickens me.

 Kind of a bummer that the organizers and competitors couldn't get their act together a bit better. The weather was iffy. It was pretty obvious that it was going to rain in the afternoon. Before the end of the first run, they were announcing that there would only be a 20-30 minute break before second runs. They must have announced it a dozen times and told the riders to head back to the top. A full 40 minutes later, the announcer is basically begging the riders to get back up to the top so they could get the second runs in. Over an hour later, still no second runs started. Finally, well over an hour after the first runs finish, the second runs start. And then the weather rolls in and screws up the second runs. Hindsight is 20-20, but I think if they would have started the second runs on time, they might have pulled it off. Fun day regardless

They need to do the 2nd run and the final touch of digging tomorrow and the final on monday for god's shake. Guys like Zinc and P.E.Ferry have said they haven't finish the line yet and need to practice before final and with the weather today there is no way ...
