It s coming the 2015 Photo of the year contest.

The 5th annual Pinkbike Photo of the Year Contest voting is underway. The winner will join John Wellburn, Toby Cowley, Sterling Lorence and Christoph Laue in the PB Photo of the Year Hall of Fame and they could walk away with $5,000.

How Does it Work?

From thousands of nominated photos, 32 have been selected to pit against each other in a college basketball bracket-like showdown. At this point, it is up to you, the users, to vote on the match-ups. The photos with the most votes will move on to the next round. So 32 photos will narrow down to 16, then 8, 4, 2 until there is a single photo deemed the 2015 Trek Photo of the Year Powered by SRAM.

Christoph Laue
We shot this picture on our trip to Utah for Red Bull and a German TV show Wild Ones - Junge Helden . Due to the strict time schedule we had only three hours to build this hip in the afternoon and three hours to shoot the picture in the sunrise the next morning. But the sweat and tears were definitely worth it. It was a special experience for us to take the first freeride shot in Monument Valley. -

not into the basejump photo. not 'mountain biking' enough for me.
  • 14 2
When I first saw it and thought the landing was hidden I thought it was incredible, now I think it'd be a better photo if it were a base jumper without a bike. World class shot, wrong competition for me though

The lighting is unfortunate in this one, but if you don't think its "mountain biking enough" You should watch the video.

Agree - the video is great but the shot itself is pretty blah in terms of composition, light... Surprised how it beat out the Revy shot.
  • 3 1
Personally I think the light is perfect, the whole photo is bang on, its just a bit odd having a photo in a competition for a mtb website which might work better without the bike in it

Some of these match ups... how can you even choose? Great lineup of photos.
  • 19 1
Which of the two makes you want to throw your chai vanilla IPA out the Subaru and just GO RIDE?!
  • 1 0
 Right, all 10+!
  • 16 1
some of the better ones lost and i dont understand
  • 18 1
Yeah... not nearly as fun now. I'm thinking I have the touch of death! Every photo I cared about has been eliminated. Gotta say that You The Populous Have Bad Taste. Jerkwads.
  • 2 0
Agreed. Every year this contest reminds that I either 1. am blind, 2. know absolutely nothing about photography, and/or 3. have almost completely opposite taste of the average voter (which, admittedly, kind of pleases me).

Sam Needham's pic is just majestic. Makes me feel so excited for riding season and just being alone in the foggy woods quietly shredding.
  • 12 6
I dont even like the shot that is paired with the berm shot but at this point I am just voting it so the berm shot does not win.
  • 5 3
Its not even a berm its an access road; but... yeah.
  • 6 1
The dust explosion shot is not on a trail?
  • 3 1
Pretty sure I remember reading a post from the Photog saying it was an access road. at a ski area. You can see a road in some of the pics.
  • 8 3
I honestly think that one should win. The dust on the right is just sooo dramatic. It might not be an overload of mountainbiking, but the shot is very good.
  • 6 1
I think my favourite shot is out. I want that Steve Shannon shot for my wall. Still some awesome shots though, really tough to choose.
  • 2 0
Shoot me a message if you're interested in getting a print!
  • 2 1
Such a great shot Steve, one of my favorites for sure.
  • 1 1
Yeah my fav of the bunch as well.
  • 1 1
Ours too! There's always next year bud! Wink
  • 2 1
That pic with the lake was my vote too. Super good shot and amazing location and sweet light. Makes me sad that I'm not so talented.
  • 6 1
I feel for Jb Liautard, that was a stunning photo
  • 7 2
HOW THE HELL DO YOU CHOOSE FROM THIS
  • 7 1
 Suzuki ad is wicked.
  • 2 0
 Yes...very destructive.
  • 3 2
instant wallpaper candy - cheers pinkbike, and cheers all these awesome photographers doing awesome shizz. I dunno if your missus recoiled in horror as mine did when mentioning this, but some of these are good enough for artsy framed print space on my wall...
  • 8 3
#7 is kinka cool but the Suzuki logo ruins it for me...
  • 4 0
I love that the rider in Sean Lee's shot has proof that the sun really does shine out of his a$$
  • 4 1
Oh my god. What is up with christoph laue. This dude knows how to take a picture. I nearly cried on that.
  • 2 0
Wasn't it Cristoph and Sterl left when it was down to the final 2 last year? Second year in a row Sterl's been knocked out by Laue.
  • 1 0
Yeah its a great shot, but haze! Fucking smog in the desert. Very sad.
  • 3 1
2 of my faves head to head, Christoph Laue and Bruno Long, tough call, going with Laue. I'll take the remedy in large.........AWESOME photo contest, thanks PB
  • 2 1
Pinkbike does such a good job of picking similar photos for matchups so that way you're not trying to decide between two completely different photos. That can be like comparing a sculpture to a water-painting.
  • 5 1
Wicked colour in Sean lee's photo .!! Awesome.!
  • 2 0
Just some happy little jumps n flow. See how easy that is. Anyone can do it.
  • 3 0
Real judges should be hired for next year.
  • 2 1
 What makes a "real judge?"
  • 3 0
A mix of pro photographers and photo editors would be nice.
  • 5 3
Some good pics in this round
  • 3 2
this exactly. first round where im REALLY torn on a lot of shots. great stuff
  • 2 1
its cruel and unusual punishment to make us choose between this pieces of art
  • 3 2
Klemens Koenig's pic looks like that dude is about to kick the tree down
  • 3 2
I though mountainbiking helped US escape from dificult choices...
  • 3 2
 Sterling didnt make the cut..
  • 3 1
His photo was pretty sick, and so was that Sweetgrass film, but I just couldn't vote for something so heavily lighted and produced over the more natural-looking shots. I'm a huge fan of Sterling's, but I'm not voting based on names.
  • 2 1
 Joey Schusler's shot........just wow.
  • 2 1
a perfect image of a sick invasive species.. im down with christoph laue
  • 4 3
Iv'e got a feeling Lee's going to Trump the rest
  • 2 1
The two best shots are in matchup 1. That's a shame.
  • 2 1
so Laue is winning this thing again.... congrats!
  • 2 2
Ya think Trumpore is a little parched?
  • 3 2
 This was though
