The mountain biker won that particular battle, but the roadie shoulda brought up 90kph descents on skinny tires and wet roads, peloton crashes, and being catapulted into a barbed-wire fence, breaking bones, and still finishing the Tour de France. Then it could have been more even.
Funny stuff. I clicked on it ASAP and wasn't disappointed.
Awesome. Too awesome. Easy question to answer though. MTB has 3 big Macs. T-Mac, C-Mac & D-Mac. Just one of those is enough to squash the competition without even bringing in the rest like Lacondeguy, Montgomery, Semenuk, Akrigg, Leech, Godziek, Rheeder, Soder, Ace, Lenosky, etc.
Maybe the roadies could argue that they've got Ashton, but no, he's ours too.
Maybe they could say that we have Brian Lopes, but then we'd just tell them that they've got Armstrong.
neg prop? because I said the video of Johan is boring???? it is sooooo freakin boring..... well if you love watchin a dude in spandex sweat up a big hill with biergarten music. ENJOY!! LOL
Never said he sucks because there is no way I could do that. The music I mean... you know, without bier...
wtf....you' re just mentioning a list of mountainbikers that have nothing to do with road cycling ( although a lot of mtbers go on the road aswell for training and setting a base physical condition to build upon ). i m not sure what " you won ' . Road Cycling is a much bigger industry, with talents and legendary cyclists, and they deserve just as much respect.
There's actually many stories of roadies finishing races with 39ºC fevers, a broken hip, a broken femur, a broken wrist/fingers, or looking like this a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/0719/pg2_a_tendam_576.jpg. Nobody "wins" in these kinds of situations.
Still: Rap vid funniest thing I've seen this week. The audience wins!
I have always said roadies were lame. I have had to eat a lot of crow now that I love road riding. I still MTB but I spilt my time between the two.
However roadies are lazy. I am not saying they are not athletic but they are lazy. Case in point, roadies don't create their roads nor do they even clean them up after a winter storm. Mt bikers do not get this luxury.
i am a mountain biker for lif but its so much fun riding bikes doesn't matter if its mtb or roady try drafting behind a truck at 100 km/h...you crush you die ...
Not sure who won mtb to me but they were both just funny as shit man great to see people making jokes instead of real drama thank you both for doing the vid!!!!
I agree fully, any mountin biker can jump on a road bike and be just as good, if not better. There is no real skill road biking, sorry but its the truth.
ok, clarification- guys who only ride road bikes vs. guys who ride both or just mtn. and by "destroy" i mean to imply a certain ability to take big hits and get back up. by "big hits" i mean slamming into rocks, trees, etc. or getting caught on the chin by some skinny little roadies girly fist....
mtb racers ride road bikes for strength, not skill. A mountain biker can ride everything a road biker can (a bit slower) but most road bikers can't ride even nearly everything a mountain biker can. Roadies can be real a-holes .Not saying mtb riders can't be, but I often see a roadie riding in the middle of the road during rush hour. If possible I never ride on the road at all because I know it's annoying to car drivers (I try to ride on sidewalks if there are no pedestrians).
You don't think roadies take hits? Road crashes are f*cking brutal, especially peloton crashes or skids on 90kph descents. Then they finish the Tour De France with a broken collar bone.
And any roadie who DOESN'T ride in the middle of his lane in rush hour is asking for an accident to happen. As someone who has bike commuted for years I can tell you that getting honked at in the middle of a lane is far safer than staying to the side where jackass motorists think they can squeeze around you. I've been run off the road a couple times, it's scary as f*ck. Seriously. Always take the lane, unless there's a clearly designated bike lane free of obstructions.
That said, mtb is way more fun. I agree about the technical skill part, but then again I don't think most mtb riders have enough pedaling technique or bike control to REALLY hold a straight paceline or ride in a tight peloton, not to mention the insane amount of strategy and intelligence it takes to win in a road race. Different skills entirely.
Well you said you commuted I understand that but...them roadies aren't commuting, they think it's a good idea to go for a ride at 3 pm when people go home from work, and they have to choose the main street because a side street (in a small town, usually empty, there's even a bike lane parallel but no, they won't use it) isn't good enough for them. Another thing is they often ride on a slightly twisty road where speed limit is 90 kph and most people drive 100-110 and you can't see well around those long bends. And even better, they often ride side by side. I've seen them riding 2m behind a big truck for less wind resistance. IDIOTS. The truck driver couldn't even see them, what if he braked suddenly? I understand there are idiotic car drivers that want to push you off the road, but I'm talking about the bikers' attitude - why should I ride where I annoy less people if I can ride here, run a red light and do some other dangerous manouvers?
Well said bkm303 !! I totally agree. I ride both disciplines and have had far worse crashes/injuries on the road bike than on the mtb, and only one of the crashes I have had on the road wasn't caused by a car.... I'd much rather hit trees and rocks than metal and glass!
@saski: Riding on the sidewalk is illegal here, for obvious safety reasons. As a roadie, commuter, and mountain biker, I'd just suggest you stop stereotyping a certain group based on that one time you encountered an a*shole who happened to be in one of those groups. Turns out there are just a*shole people out there. But I've seen a*shole mountain bikers, a*shole roadies, and seriously suicidal a*shole commuters. Two of those three disciplines are sports, and in both cases, they are beautiful. Full of skill, passion, and excitement. Unfortunately for us misunderstood roadies, there's been a lot of bullshit in the sport over the years, the UCI is pretty useless, and its not a very accessible sport for viewers.
TL;DR - don't knock it until you've tried it, right?
I just can't let this go… Pure and simple, and I'll get a lot of flack for this but; ROAD IS KING. 90km/hr on a descent? Try 100 to 120km/hr. If your still not convinced, run a belt-sander down your leg. 3-4 seconds of sliding on the road is far more cringe-worthy than an endo. Lastly, as far as global support, it's estimated that 1 million people were at the single TDF stage up Alpe d'Huez last year, mountain biking events might have had a that many in one year. Of course the balance would sway in favour of mountain biking, what do you think the "MB" in NSMB stands for. BTW "enduro your mom" was the death blow, the rest was catch up on the mountain biker's part. He was beat and he didn't even know it.
Have you watched Redbull Rampage? Falling on the road sucks, but a pro-roadie has a much greater chance of not falling at a 100km/h on the road than a pro-freerider doing a 70 foot canyon gap at 60km/h.
Hell, I have done almost 100km/h on my road bike downhill, but I have never ever gotten the balls to get close to a 70 foot canyon gap on my mountain bike.
Not trying to take away the incredible athletic ability of mountain bikers. I've injured myself seriously doing both in the 15+ years I've been involved in this industry. Not to mention the 40+ years I've been riding a bike.
Don't misunderstand me, these athletes, whether road or mountain, are amazing their own right. In fact many stars of the road came from mountain biking (Cadel Evans, Ryder Hesjedal, and yes even Lance, to name a few) What really grinds my gears is that mountain seems to think it's the centre of it all, when in fact it's not.
All I'm saying is "lift your vision up a bit, and look around at the bigger picture" and you'll have a healthy respect for both.
That being said, this is still pretty funny, I loved it.
Well your original comment came across more like a "who has bigger balls" statement. I strongly believe that would be the freeriders at the top of their game...
If the question was, who is the better athlete, that is much more open to debate.
Guys in baggies vs guys in Lycra, MTB ftw, roadies bunch of cross dressing Ghey tards! What real man shaves his legs and wears women's clothing, really!
competitive cyclists will not stop wearing lycra because lycra is not a fashion statement , but a necessity and a performance factor . I have a feeling that, if it was still allowed gravity riders would stretch that lycra on them like there was no tomorrow. And btw, if Fumic and Fontana wear baggy apparel it doesn't mean that they are onto something. It was a stupid argument 10 years ago, 5 years ago and keeps being stupid and pointless to this day.
How's my par game?
to get the correct value, you need to learn how to calculate T.M.I
Now that that's out of the way though, I'm pretty sure we're all aware that XC riders are all secretly roadies in disguise (I would know)
Maybe the roadies could argue that they've got Ashton, but no, he's ours too.
Maybe they could say that we have Brian Lopes, but then we'd just tell them that they've got Armstrong.
So we win.

Don't forget those Ghey Tards in the UFC that shave their legs and wear lycra. Why don't you jump in the ring and tell them what you think some time.
Sports specific clothing is worn for a competitive edge.
Great edit!!
Sorry you must have missed that
