Ben Cathro has announced on social media that a previous shoulder injury will be stopping him from racing at this weekend's World Cup in Lourdes.

With the launch of Pinkbike Racing this weekend Ben Cathro will be managing from the sidelines after an injury causing impingement in his shoulder from a few days ago has troubled his riding in Lourdes. Rather than push on Ben will be sitting this one out and instead help scope fast lines and support the team from outside the tape.

We wish Ben all the best with his recovery and hope he is back up to full speed for Fort William in May.

 You know he wants to be tip top shape for the return to Fort Bill. Probably a tough decision but the correct one.

 The pinkbike team jerseys look sick. Looking forward to following along through the season. To bad Ben isn't racing but glad that we still get "inside the tape "

 Miss Lourdes? Never heard of her.

 Love Cathro, but can’t help but think that racing, managing a team, and making videos is a bit much for one person during a World Cup.

 because "heal fast ben!" wasn't smart enough.

 @t-stoff: Smart to try to balance all these difficult things and be focused on racing? I hope he heels and it was not meant as disrespect, just seems like a lot.

 Agreed. It’s a recipe for disaster no? Maybe if he were 21

 It's a lot, but look at Bernard Kerr for example. It can be done while being a regular top 20 rider. Anyway, heal up Cathro!

 Right. I can't imagine you could feel like you're on a level playing field as the other riders that only need to worry about racing. Possible to do great? Yes. More difficult to do so? I think so.

 It's worked very well for Pivot but not everyone is an animal like Bernard Kerr
  • 1 1
 @Braapp: Kerr doesn't coach..
  • 2 0
 Kerr is stepping back a little this year and leaving a lot of the managerial role to Emilie (former Pivot elite female ride)

 I've also wondered if Kerr gets additional behind the scenes help with administration tasks. His g/f maybe?

 It was a tough qualies and riders faster than Ben only just made the cut yesterday. It's going to be tough this year for riders down the field to qualify as the sport is getting tighter and tighter.

 Joint injuries are debilitating. And they always seem to come back or linger which is the worst part.
