 Post the junior results as well. That’s where the story is. Brock Hawes taking the win with the fastest time of the day beating the elites. Crazy fast ride.

 C'mon now. Everyone knows that junior times don't mean a thing when compared to elites - different track conditions, weather etcetera. Just look at juniors who step up to elites; they never match expectations.
  • 42 22
 @mi-bike: Yup, a junior defiantly did not win his first elite race this year on WC.

 @Roost66: Your sarcasm meter is broken

 @mi-bike: ATM 2 ex-juniors prove you wrong
  • 15 1
 @Jvhowube: sarcasm not obvious enough. This is a comment we could easily read on PB said in all sincerity.
  • 9 3
 @vhdh666: Double whoosh
  • 24 3
 @BiNARYBiKE: Honestly, sarcasm and satire on the internet is dead. We used to walk around thinking "surely nobody is that dumb" but if the internet has taught us anything, its that people actually *are* that dumb. Satire and sarcasm just disguises you as one of them.

 @mi-bike: look, a connoisseur!

 @mi-bike: from following on social media not sure how much track conditions changed at Nationals? Anyone who was at Fernie can comment? Did the new parts of the track cut up a lot more? Either way insane time, awesome to see the competition in the junior DH scene in Canada these days!
  • 5 1
 @gramboh: I’m assuming it was a sarcastic comment about some of the juniors having faster times than the elites at the world cups last year and people saying it was because of track conditions
  • 1 0
 @Jvhowube: Oh, a sarcasm detector, how useful.
  • 1 2
 @mi-bike: exact same course
Juniors killed it

 Jr Elite Win was 2min 31s! Go Brock!
  • 4 0
 He beat the Sr. Elite Men's winner by a greater margin than first to fifth in Sr.
  • 13 3
 Where's Finn?
  • 17 1
 Somewhere other than Fernie if I were to guess
  • 4 0
 jackson nor Finn... jackson at surgery, Finn on an island with red bull ladies? maybe..
  • 2 0
 @ace9: I think Finn is in Whistler for Crankworx and practice for WC.
  • 9 1
 Looks like that new Norco works
  • 4 2
 Not as well as whatever Brock Hawes was on... He's the jr. that beat all the elites.
  • 4 1
 Did you mean "Looks like that new Forbidden works" ?
  • 1 0
 @marrrty: Forbidden, Dreadnaught I would assume, or their new DH bike.
  • 11 2
 Goldstone for the win!!

 Yeah, bummer the other Goldstone went overseas to defend a title in a race that eventually didn't happen. Was he also holding the Nationals jersey (or sleeve) which he had to defend?

Edit: Oh, he was on the mend, not at Hardline.
  • 1 0
 @vinay: Still won tho.
  • 1 3
 @Roost66: Bailey did yeah.

 In Men's Juniors:

"The fastest time of the day, though, goes to Gravity Racing’s junior, Brock Hawes. Up against an absolutely stacked junior men’s field, including current World Cup leader Bodhi Kuhn (Trek Factory Racing), Hawes put in a huge run to take the win. His winning time of 2:31.04 set a bar that none of the pro men were able to match..... Jon Mozell earned a second silver for the Forbidden Synthesis Team (one of several for Forbidden Bikes), Bodhi Kuhn (Trek Factory Racing) third, Wyatt Harrington (Pinkbike Racing) fourth and Dane Jewett (Pivot) fifth."

 Two and a half minute track for nationals seems weak. Fernie has the vert to offer more, wish they could've.
  • 8 0
 Guess it beats the 2:05 track from US nationals though.
  • 5 0
 Where's the article on the bike that swept the podium?
  • 4 0
 Why no Jackson and not speaking of the 5th place finisher.
  • 7 2
 FI and JG couldn't make it - they were at work.
  • 1 2
 @brentkratz: Ya, Finn too.
  • 9 0
 Jackson just had Appendix taken out. Finn resting/training/hanging in Whistler. Crankworx 1199 DH and World Champs are bigger targets for him.
  • 2 3
 @btjenki:That makes sense. We already know who the two best Canadian riders are anyway!
  • 2 3
 Only people who race Nationals can win Nationals. That's sort of why races exist, no? Theorizing who is best while someone is "resting/training/hanging in Whistler" seems weird.

If you show up to a race and win your category, you get the title. If you don't show up, you can't be "the best". That's how National titles work.
  • 1 2
 @btjenki: Jackson has been racing world cups, but yes world champs will be a bigger target for him too
  • 7 2
 @eastieboy: It's true that you have to race to win, but we can easily theorize who is fastest. Just looks at the world cup results. JG and FI are 1 and 2 in overall points. None of the podium in this race are even in the top 30. Whether they have the title or not, they are still the fastest canadian racers. It would be very naive to think otherwise.
  • 2 5
 Not necessarily as not every racer has been racing the Worlds and therefore don’t have the accumulated points Presumption and theories not good, it really would be better if they ( racers ) made it more of a priority to race Nationals, instead of resting or whatever.. The credit needs to be earned . Also I’m sure some of these racers would have liked to be resting as well, as they are heading to Worlds and Crankworx etc as well.
  • 7 1
 You would have to be fairly clueless to not acknowledge that Finn and Jackson are by far the fastest Canadians(and the world) and would have smoked this field
  • 1 1
 @bikesandbeers: Using the results from the WC races this podium has participated in, give me a reasonable explanation as to how they could possibly compete with Goldstone and Iles.

Anyone who pays attention to DH racing know for a fact that those two are the two fastest canadians by a wide margin.

Nationals doesn't pay the bills. WC does. It makes sense for low ranked riders to participate in nationals for the exposure. Top 5 riders don't need to do that because they already get exposure at WC races. Why risk getting hurt for something that doesn't advance your career?
  • 3 1
 @whistlam8: Dude so you are saying that it’s a given the two of them would win? I’ve been to enough races to know that sometimes shit happens and there are upsets and the favorite to win doesn’t!
  • 4 1
 @bikesandbeers: for elites the National race doesn’t mean much towards being selected for the Worlds team. Canada has 7 spots for elite men and women and based on the criteria the mens 5 spots for the team are already taken by Jackson, Finn, Lucas Cruz , Mark Wallace and Jakob Jewett.

Elite Men:
1. Athletes who finished top 3 in the elite men’s DHI at the 2022 World Championships;
2. Athletes placing top 30 in the elite men’s DHI at a 2023 World Cup prior to the selection date. In the event of a tie, the most recent result will take priority;
3. Athletes in the top 50 of the UCI elite men’s DHI ranking on the selection date,ranked in the order of the ranking;
4. Athletes placing top 10 in the elite men’s DHI at the 2023 Canadian DHI championships, ranked by finishing order;

 @bikesandbeers: If you had to bet $10,000 on who is the fastest DH racer is Canada right now, who are you betting on? Don't play games. Answer with a name.
  • 5 0
 @colinb191: You are probable correct but give the kid some respect. On that day he showed up, they didn’t, and Brock was faster than everyone else. Happy for him, he made the best of the situation, we all wish we could do that. He is a fast kid and getting faster and has only raced a few years. He hasn’t had the attention of the Squamish and Whistler area kids. He will get there, no one is the best for ever.
  • 3 1
 @whistlam8: Finn. Riding at 90% would have bested this field on this day!
  • 2 0
 @chicane32: but then again he was in Pemby on that day
  • 2 1
 @souknaysh: And that's why Cruz has the national title. He's still not the fastest canadian DH racer.That's no disrespect to him he's faster than anyone commenting here, but he's not in the same tier as Finn or Jackson.
  • 2 2
 @whistlam8: Dude stop the coulda shoulda woulda crap. They weren’t there, they didn’t win case closed!
Move on.
( And yes you are disrespecting )
  • 2 0
 @bikesandbeers: yes it is case closed that they didn’t win. It’s also case closed that Jackson and Finn are the fastest Canadians. You would have to be an incredible moron to think otherwise. Reality isn’t disrespect. Cruz himself would say Jackson and Finn are faster because he’s not an idiot.

I noticed you refused to say who you would bet on. Gee, wonder why…
  • 1 0
 @whistlam8: I refuse to get into debates with 10 year olds. Go cry in your milk!!
  • 1 0
 @bikesandbeers: You sound mad lol. Still refusing to say who you would bet on. Hey did you see Finn is in P1 overall now? Weird, since he’s not the fastest Canadian according to geniuses like you Smile
  • 1 0
 @bikesandbeers: it’s weird that 2 Canadians ended up in the top 5 overall, but neither of them are the fastest Canadians, amirite?

 Any news on why Gracey was a DNS? Did she pick up an injury?
  • 3 0
 "Gracey Hemstreet was well positioned to add another medal, potentially a championship, had she not been injured in training."

 She had a bad accident earlier this week according to her Insta. Concussion or neck/spine precautions from what I recall. Hope she makes the Worlds, she was showing the speed to win a round.
