 Commencal's marketing team has this shit down. Sick videos + sick pictures + direct to consumer pricing = more bikes sold.
  • 20 0
 So true, and let's not forget the completely sick bikes on offer. Drool worthy one and all.
  • 10 1
 I drool quite often which is called pavlovian conditioning. it happens when i see food and see other things that i like.

 maybe their marketing team can explain why remi thirion is still on the old bike if this ones so good?
  • 31 1
 @whitebullit: Dude the Furious isn't replacing the Supreme. It's designed to be fun, whereas the Supreme's designed to be fast. Thirion rides the Supreme because it's faster. Note the entire video was comprised of freeride and bike park footage, and didn't feature Thirion or Brannigan.

 absolutely not. A ballin sick rider can ride any crap bike (which this is) and make it look good. The suspension is long link actuated single pivot. :lame:
  • 95 0
 Can it be ridden on the ground as well? The pictures make me believe this is an aerial machine.
  • 21 0
 They're cheap because they don't factor in the price of getting you private pilots license.
  • 83 1
 Lookin great!! Thank god he switched from formula one
  • 14 0
 Red version is made especially for him. He always wanted to ride the red machine.
  • 8 0
 I always thought that it'd be cool if somebody made a Mercedes or Brawn GP themed bike. Like what Intense did on their M9s.
  • 4 1
 Unfortunately, im only slightly perturbed.
  • 3 1
 That's a handsome bike for sure.
  • 4 1
 @sewer-rat Maybe Verstappen or Ricciardo will make the switch with Redbull's help...

 WHAT THE f*ck?! A GOOD DH BIKE FOR $2,500 BRAND NEW?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Commencal!
  • 33 0
 I'm impressed with the price ... $5400 CAD for a complete with Fox 40's and an X2 shock. That's only $600 more than the Trek Slash 9.9 RSL FRAME only. Granted alloy vs. carbon, but wow ... they should sell a boatload of these.
  • 10 0
 Yep, crazy good value in Canada by Commencal on this and YT on the Tues Carbon. Giant has decent value on the Glory but other companies are laughable in their pricing/spec.
  • 18 0
 How can it be any good, it's not 29" or boosty boosty boost boost.
In all seriousness, it looks sick and really fun to ride.
  • 5 0
 Makes me wonder if companies are gonna do full switches to 29 witht heir DH bikes. Kind of like how trek did with the sessions. Where they offered a frame only option for the 26. Will it be all 29 and a "Freeride" 27.5 frame option?
  • 4 0
 @chillrider199:

That is still up in the air i guess. I can see quite a few manufacturers being reluctant to making the jump and fully commit to 29er downhill/freeride bikes. Namely those who do not only cater to a racing crowd but also make most of their sales with beginner/entrance level bikes.
The thing is, IF teams do wanna race 29" on the worldcup, the manufacturers will NEED to start selling 29ers because otherwise the teams would not be allowed to race on the frames (they need to hit production within 12 months).

The one possible solution i see for manufacturers to circumvent this whole situation without fully comitting to 29er only is doing limited numbers of 29er frames. Kinda like Trek did with the Session Park, just a "exclusive 29er race series".
But it´s gonna be interesting for sure and imho a lot of industry people seemed rather unpleasently surprised by the Syndicate bruteforcing the whole worldcup circuit onto the 29er idea.
From a business standpoint i can totally understand why some manufacturers really aren´t happy with this development.
  • 2 0
 @Loki87: UCI rules are 9 months, according to someone from santa Cruz, so they better start getting the bike refined enough to sell.
I recon trek will be next onto the 29" at fort William (apparently they have been working on them for 5 years which I somehow doubt) and mabie GT as their frames would be easier to incorporate the wheels into.
  • 3 1
 @piersgritten:
Yeah, Syndicate says 9 month, the manuscript i saw said 12 months. I dunno which is more recent info though. Maybe Santa Cruz meant they got 9 months left to hit the market? Idk.
Whatever it is, this UCI rule will eventually be the thing that dictates the shift for consumer bikes to 29" if manufacturers do not want to go with two production wheel sizes :-/
And it´ll suck big time if that happens...
  • 1 0
 @Loki87: I'm not sure it will... Certainly not freeride bikes. Many of them are still on 26"- eg the session park. But enduro is probably going to make the change. Time will tell for dh
  • 2 0
 @piersgritten:
Yeah, i´m not sure of it either. Was just saying it has the potential, since people always claim it was only down to the consumer which way this goes. But there are so many more variables at play and this UCI rule is one of them.
And it´ll be interesting for sure how things end up. For example the Session Park isn´t even in production anymore as far as i know. Seems like it was more of an effort to keep 26" alive for the freeride team and grab some sympathy points from the 26" crowd on the way. So i´m mostly interested in whether the 29ers will become the new Session Park or rather the 27,5" frames.
  • 9 0
 If Commencal go down the 29" route I think it's far more likely they'll do it with the Supreme V4 as that's more of a race bike, this is aimed more at park/fun riders.
  • 2 0
 @metaam:
Yeah, they sure will. They are however one of the few that actually still have a "freeride" bike in their lineup and no carbon fiber frames. So i´m not worried about them really. The Furious will sell well.
This was all more in reference to companys like giant, Specialized and so on, that utilize their race frames as a platform for all the gravity oriented bikes because the carbon molds are such a huge investment.
  • 5 0
 @chillrider199: I honestly have thought, since all the wheel some changes started happening a few Years back that 29 would supplant 27.5, and that a few years later this would lead to a resurgence of the 26" wheel. The tweener wheel is too much like either size. 26 for fun, 29 for fast. Easy.
  • 2 0
 As others have said, UCI ruling is product has nine months from race debut to reach production. Now the question is does the UCI enforce this ruling in DH?
  • 1 1
 @gonecoastal: do you know what happens when the rule is broken? I'm assuming it's some sort of fine or penalty
  • 3 1
 Well it's a free ride/dh bike so idk why they would make it in 29" wheels
  • 2 1
 @pogan: it was a joke
  • 1 1
 @piersgritten: No idea. I could see both. Fines for the team and points deduction towards the factory team and riders who were awarded points on the equipment in question.
I recall reading the other day on a road site that teams are allowed limited race usage of the new product in that nine month window as well.

 I truly hope it rides better than the last furious, I still ride Commie DH V.1. , I'm no hater... but the furious v.1 had a similar hard push ad campaign from CG... I bought one... it was gash.. worst bike ever.. uncontrollable rebound and wank compression. such a pretty bike for sure... let's see a review... coz I want it...
  • 3 0
 More importantly here; in William and Romain's section, how SICK does Evo bike park look in Digne Les Bain, France!!! MORZINE R.I.P.

 Commencal sells it as a more playful ride then the race oriented supreme?? I simply dont understand this by having a look at the geometry.

Furios: chain stay 44 cm wheel base 121,4 cm in size M

supreme: chain stay 42,5 cm wheel base 119 cm in size M

Ok, the head angle is a bit less on the supreme. But why..related to geometry should the furious be the more playful ride?

On paper the supreme looks at least as playful as the furios. I dont get the difference, can somebody find it?
  • 3 0
 Supreme is a high pivot design which due to it's pivot location will extend chainstay length and wheelbase under compression. Basically those designs get longer in wheelbase or do not change wheelbase at all (depending on how you want to look at it, since the fork compressing will shorten the wheelbase, so it'll basically cancel out).
Basically at SAG point the Supreme will be longer than the Furious and the difference will grow even more from there.
  • 1 0
 I'm guessing it's more in the suspension design, Supreme V4 has a high pivot with idler pulley for a rearwards axle path. Presumably this is great for soaking up big bumps but not so great for 'pop'?

Also I would assume the more complex setup on the V4 is more expensive but am too lazy to check the prices.
  • 1 0
 @Loki87: thx for explaining. Makes sense to me. I did have a straight forward Approach so far, by just looking at reach and chain stay to find out if i can easily manuel the beast. And by looking at the supreme, i thought first that this will be easier to pull around. But having a deeper look related to your Pivot Explanation makes things interesting and of cource more complex to Interpret the rides for me in future :-)

thanks
