@DaFreerider44: technically a sequence of pictures. A fast picture would u trying to keep a single image in focus as it's propelled by whatever magical means
After upvote you and later seeing the video I can say it was so damn good an defenetly video brings a different overview to bike check... We might get lazy cause EWS bike check vids weren't that good...
@christinachappetta: +1, both for look&feel(riding, tech, presenting, knowledge) ... except those "old mama" shoes... any common flipflops would be much more aesthetic, sexy etc...
Good video! Look forward to some more over Crankworx Week. Always nice to know things like, how tall are they, what size bike are they riding. Quicky mods like the rear shock / extra mounting holes on Dan Wolfes N9, and the Grey Suntour Forks on his & Micks bikes.
Those suspension grips are scary to me. Use whatever works but throttle grip is something that has been driving me crazy since bmx racing days 30 years ago.
Assuming it's built on the Hail (aka Reign) 27.5 platform, be interested to hear how it climbs. No doubt Rae manages it 10x better than I could regardless.
Sweet! Glad you enjoyed! Those riders has some much knowledge to share it's hard to fit it all in but I always listen closely and take notes for my personal setup.
They're nice to have if you do a bunch of laps of lift access trails that are blown up with braking bumps. That's what they're meant for. Seth's bike hacks straight up installed them incorrectly and then went for a few laps in his backyard, so not a good representation of them at all.
@RowdyAirTime: let's make SOME NOOOOIIIIISSSE!!! HEY MAKE SURE YOU SWING BY THE MONPTSTAR ENERGYDRINK BOOTH AND PICK UP SOME OF THIS SWEET SWAG ISN'T THAT RIGHT BIG JAY SO THESE ATHLETES ARE AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF PROGRESSION ISNT THAT RIGHT WELL YES THATS RIGHTBRADWEAREWITNESSINGTHEBESTANDBRIGHTESTTHESLOPESTYLEMOUNTAINBICYCLEWORLD HAS TO OFFER BRAD UP NEXT
Props to Dan Wolfe for some nice tidbits and discussing his Yoaan'esque brake lever positions. Haven't heard the change in elbow position consideration, very interesting!
They do make an XC version. That's actually quite capable. But nowhere near as capable as Jackson & Rose's. They also made a very small batch of "DH" tandems about 15 years ago. I've owned both and race enduro with my kids on one. I run a 170 Lyrik on it. I've always wanted to try out a proper Boxxer or 40 on it but can't justify the expense for limited use case.
Luckily Dan and Mick were there to give interesting and informed replies. Unfortunately that does nothing but reinforce the patriarchy but that’s life I guess.
It looks like Enduro racing is dead? Just off the shelf bikes?
Maybe it would be more exciting if there was some stuff you can only see on... race bikes? Besides the basic trimmed tire, grip tape and custom paint. Some obscure components brands like Hope? Machined stuff? A little bit more character? Privateer bikes? Home engeenerring?
Otherwise it looks like another sponsored ad.
It would also be cool to see closed up pictures/footage as well. DH and XC bikes run much more custom stuff.
I really cannot fathom the logic that a racing discipline is "dead" because pro racers are using what appear be relatively stock bikes. It's a bad thing that manufacturers are making EWS-ready bikes easily available for the consumer? Absolutely ridiculous. Pros talking about the small customizations they've made to their bikes is not the end of the world.
I think that tandem bike was pretty impressive! And Rae's bike is one of the most custom bikes out there, fully equipped with Hope components as well. As it's the first big race of the year, I'm sure you'll be seeing more unique and new products coming on the market soon!
The tandem was interesting, but not even a word on the set up i.e. it appears to have custom cranks.
Yeah, off the shelf bike racing it means the sport is dead. It stopped developing. Racers do not really care to take that small advantage to win. They are just there because they have to. They compete of course... but except the original enduro crowd, I still have to hear anybody moving from DH being excited about it. Except Sam Hill that just got bored with DH. Or random people than win.
My guess is the bike industry milked Enduro as far as they could and now they are switching to e-bike. Because they could provide more sales. Anybody can ride them, regardless of fitness or skills.
Overall Mtbiking reached the peak. Car sponsorship etc. Now it is going down. Look at many mtb sites (cough cough), they seem a random lifestyle/consumer blog nowdays.
Christina - your interviews are good but consider the listeners when using slang... I dont feel the "hip" slang helpful to the interviews. It does make me laugh trying to figure out what you just said though! HundyP?
I'm old now...who doesn't know hundy p?!? But I will take that into consideration, thank you! And if I'm making you laugh, then my life is complete :-)
It's bike checks... not rocket science. And as I have raced with this crew for the last 5 years... I know a thing, maybe 2, about their setups :-) But not everything! Which is why I always listen closely

Great start Rae - Bring on the 2020 EWS!!
