Video: Official Trailer for Long Live Chainsaw - The Life and Legacy of Stevie Smith

Oct 27, 2021 at 9:17
by Anthill Films

Coming Winter 2021, documentary film Long Live Chainsaw from Red Bull Media House and Anthill Films, reveals the true story of the meteoric rise, untimely death and long-lasting legacy of Canadian downhill mountain bike legend, Stevie Smith.

From humble beginnings being raised by a devoted single mom, Stevie's unwavering belief not only propelled him to become the best in the world but inspired everyone he touched to believe in their own impossible dreams.

A look behind the curtain of downhill World Cup racing, Long Live Chainsaw portrays an underdog overcoming the odds to win the 2013 Overall title. Known as the "F1 of cycling", downhill had long been dominated by Europeans before 'The Canadian Chainsaw' became the unlikeliest of heroes.

Long Live Chainsaw is produced in partnership with the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation. In 2017, the foundation built a community bike park in Stevie’s hometown of Nanaimo to honour his life and legacy by keeping kids stoked on being outside and riding bikes. All proceeds from the film will be donated to the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation to help grow Stevie’s legacy of inspiring the next generation of riders.

bigquotesI was beyond excited when Darcy from Anthill contacted me about the idea to make a film about Steve’s life story. I was at a loss for words... for me, this is the greatest tribute possible! I think that the telling of Steve's story will be inspiring to a lot of the young riders out there. It will show them that you just never know... if a kid from Cassidy can do it, anything is possible!Tianna Smith

Didn't expect to cry at Anthill Film's annual MTB release trailer. And yet here we are.

Legitimately super excited. I essentially knew nothing about Stevie when he passed, and was a little put off that Anthill was doing this instead of their normal deal. But after the trailer, I'm 100% on board and I'll clear my schedule for Day 1 of its release.

I immediately bought tickets to the premiere in Whistler and booked the day off work for recovery. any Canadian who doesn't know who this legend is. Buy a ticket and educate yourself. Emotions drown me and I'm not even Canadian.

We are making posters and exploring ways we can share them with Stevie's fans. We will have them at Nanaimo and Vancouver shows.

Went to the Stevie Smiths' bikepark in Nanaimo before I left Vancouver Island after a year living there. It was so bittersweet, I was/am such a big fan of him. Dropped a tear and yet It felt so good watching all the kids having fun there. Such a legacy to the sport. Thank you for everything Steve. You made a difference.

I don't why , but Stevie had a persona that touched people in a way that I cant explain , listening to his mum on the tippie podcast last week moved me so much , this will be an amazing film and tribute to a true legend

I guess personally as someone who watched Collective Seasons even Follow Me and watched as Stevie over the years get better and better it was heartbreaking to hear him pass and I definitely remember that day and cried finding out when it happened. Was also kinda the first time anyone at the top of our sport especially considering how small downhill racing was at that time had died. Dude was a legend, always bought a chainsaw to a gunfight. Even before he past I would always go back and watch that run in Leogang in 2013. The feeling I always got from Strevie was work hard, take advantage of opportunity and never give up and you can live your dreams.

@Bomadics: this story isn't told enough. When Gabe Fox called me the day he found out and told me I fell on the floor in tears. I used to build his pedals at Crankbrothers and worked with him at every WC to find that speed.
I cry a little every day knowing he is gone but also knowing he will always ride with me makes me want to go shred.

My Devinci Spartan 2015 was designed with Steve Smith contributions. I love this bike. It was also Damien Oton's favourite bike, he mentioned Steve Smith in his retiring interview fullattack.cc/damien-oton-a-lheure-de-la-retraite-ews

He was a great athlete and a solid human being. So glad I had a chance to meet him. I would love to see what he would have accomplished in these years past. #longlivechainsaw!!!

To me, he is a genuine person. Met hin 2x at val di sole in Italy, we took some photos and invited me to their tent and chat some more. Sad that he had to leave us too soon. Rest in paradise Steve.
