The UCI has announced the dates for the 2022 World Cup series. It looks like we'll be due a return to longer series after a shortened 2021 calendar as there are 8 DH and 9 XC rounds planned. The big news on the downhill side is that Lourdes and Mont Sainte Anne will return to the circuit but Maribor and Lousa miss out. Meanwhile, the XC riders will be heading to Brazil for the first time since the Rio Olympics for a race that will be held in Petropolis, the hometown of Henrique Avancini.

One round is still to confirm a venue but it will most likely be a European round that can host a downhill and XC World Cup. Lenzerheide, La Bresse, Meribel and Hafjell are the venues that fit that brief from recent years.

@ricochetrabbit: Lourdes is famously not the grippiest in the wet www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_gnMnhPTxQ

 Ahh ok makes sense @jamessmurthwaite:
  • 10 0
No worries, they will chicken wire the whole lenght of the track.

@ricochetrabbit Lourdes is also one of the world's most important sites of pilgrimage. Plenty of healings considered miraculous has happened there. With Covid19, starting there may be a good idea if you want a miracle for the remaining of the year...

Well... nothing like starting the season off with a total dice-roll of a race

Take a car tire tube to the top and slide your way to victory Wyn
  • 1 0
@wynmasters at least you got 2 months afterwards to disassemble and clean your bike

Is it just me, or shouldn't World Champs be the very last race?
  • 1 0
Maybe, but this wouldn’t be the first time they have a World Cup afterwards.

Awesome news! Hystorical moment for Brazil. We'll be glad to have everybody from around the world in our country again. Be welcome!
  • 1 0
Cool to be back in Brazil. Is it a new track?
  • 1 0
@dthomp325: If yr talking about the track that held the 2005/2006 WC here, yes. The city now is 'Petrópolis', near Rio de Janeiro, also a new track.

Round 4 still TBC so cross your fingers for Lousa. The most entertaining race last year
  • 14 0
A riders favorite too, not many people weren't stoked on that one
  • 1 0
 2023 then, hopefully!
  • 4 0
Or a return to Schladming instead of Lenzerheide ????
  • 1 0
It's a double header XC/DH,so sadly Lousã won't be hosting that one.
  • 8 0
 I still don't get it...
Why World Championships is before the last race of the World Cup?
  • 3 6
 @panterafr newbie...
  • 8 0
Fuck yeah mont sainte anne tabarnak
  • 3 0
Yes sir sacrament de caliss hahah

Would be nice for it to return to somewhere in B.C. for at least one year, instead of resorting to MSA every time they go to Canada.
  • 5 0
@DoubleCrownAddict: they should have a race in B.C. but MSA has to stay.
  • 6 1
Nothing on the western half of North America? I hear there are a few places with decent trails strung between B.C. and New Mexico... Might have even heard something crazy like the sport was first discovered out that way.
  • 8 0
There hasn't been a world cup out West for decades...
  • 2 0
I agree it would awesome to have a UCI race in this corner of the globe. It probably has something to do with the cost to host one of these bad boys, and the fact that the spots we're thinking of get plenty of tourism without getting involved with the UCI.
  • 4 0
Whistler is building a new track with the express intent of drawing a WCDH race back to the West, but yeah it's mostly a money thing. Most places with WC level terrain out here don't want to fork the cost of hosting the UCI, and don't need to.

There is also the UCI rule about a maximum altitude the racers can race... Many ski resorts that use to hold WC races out West are too high now.
  • 6 0
@mattomoto: really? Never heard such a weird-ass reason been given out before. Any link to uci rule?
  • 2 0
@RXN059: lol, how long does it take to build a track? Lack of a track is probably not the reason...
  • 1 0
After St. Anne, many competitors travel out west to Whistler’s Crankworx.
  • 4 0
@RXN059: BTW still no news about this track after 3 years. I wonder if they ditched the idea.
  • 2 0
One of the first videos I watched was Earthed 4. The Brazil segment was so cool. I thought they'd go back every year. Loads of great Brazilian riders have made their way up here to the east coast of the U.S. I wish South America could get a race every year.

Hell yes, Snowshoe!! Is it too much to hope that it’s becoming a regular fixture? Might have to plan a road trip from WV to MSA for back-to-back weekend racing.

Oh, and for US fans, the question isn’t, “Why Snowshoe?” The question is, “Why *only* one race in the US?” UCI should add another NA race or two while the racers are on this side of the pond.

Snowshoe is like cowbell. We must have more of it!

For those questioning Snowshoe... Did you miss this?

 No Lousa? Frown

The 2021 WC racing calendar looks amazing! Fingers crossed for grassroots racing to be back in full swing this summer too....@ bicycle industry please step up with grassroots event sponsorship. I'm sure $ reinvested into racing is needed to get this back up and running again.
  • 1 0
Jeeezus....given the timelines between a lot of these rounds, thats a pretty bullshit travel schedule for anyone not in Europe. You're looking at 5? round trips outside of the US to get to the rounds? Looking at XC, 1 - Brazil 2 - Albstadt & Nove Mesto 3 - Leogang 4 - TBD & Valnord 5 - Les Gets & Val di Sole....unless they want to/can stay in Europe for 3-4 months straight.
  • 1 0
Wait until that TBD shows you in Australia lol
  • 1 0
Whistler will get a WCDH race one day. I can’t confirm this but there has been talk that sponsorship issues have been the delay in getting a UCI race to Whistler. I for one think it will happen. Hopefully with Vail purchasing Whistler Blackcomb it will happen within the next 4-5 yrs. Good to see more races on the agenda for the next year or two
  • 5 1
okay, lets hope for Losinj in 2023
  • 6 3
Hi, Amaury it's Les Gets here.... Your rainbow jersey is ready for collection.
  • 4 0
 Snowshoe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 1 0
@jamessmurthwaite The link to the shortened calender at the top of the page and all the UCI stuff says the World Champs are in Val di Sole , but this page says Les Gets. Has it been changed?
  • 1 0
 this is the 2022 calendar,
  • 2 0
@ORTOGONAL555: Haha, I'm just so observant sometimes. How do you downvote yourself? Oh well, I'm sure others will do it for me.
  • 1 0
Pretty good line up IMPO, though I was hoping to see Stellenbosch back on the schedule. I thought that was a really cool track. The July TBD Date doesn't fit well for there either, that's the middle of their winter.
  • 4 0
 Snowshoe FTW!
  • 4 0
 What about Maribor?
  • 1 0
Looks like a brilliant calendar. TBC venue must be somewhere in Europe, considering its a week before Valnord. A venue that can support an XC race too, possibly Lenzerheide?
  • 3 0
I think the return of MSA is big news too.
  • 2 0
So the only time World Cup circuit comes to Lousã nobody was able to go there. Such a shame
  • 2 0
Remember when Brazil hosted an absolute baller WC DH race back in the day? That was awesome.
  • 1 0
Will we ever see a XCO/XCC round in the UK? We seem to have riders who are now capable of mixing it at the front - instead of 'also rans'.
  • 1 0
I hear the reason that there are not more WC events in the USA is that the UCI has a sponsorship agreement with The Rain Co. (Europe) ltd.
  • 3 1
Let´s hope people at Mt. St Anne have improved their medical emergency evacuation procedures.
  • 1 2
Snowshoe XCO is scheduled to happen like two days after the Tokyo Olympic XCO MTB event (actually Snowshoe XCC is the same day as Tokyo XCO).... They might as well cancel the Snowshoe XCO event, because none of the big names are going to fly from Tokyo to Snowshoe and race within a 48 hour period.
  • 3 0
This is the 2022 schedule, not 2021...
  • 3 0
 Brazil yessssss.
  • 2 0
 Yes!!! Back to MSA! ????????????
  • 1 0
Historic for Brazil, the years many cyclists waited for this, that it becomes routine and that it brings other modalities.
  • 1 0
Les Gets DH world champs should be amazing. Just a shame they have to think about going to val di sole a week later
  • 2 0
More like Rainboots, WV in July.
  • 1 0
Not a bad line up 8 rounds is decent.would still love some different tracks tho.meribal.shladming champers etc
  • 1 0
Stoked on 8 rounds. Shame it's just the northern hemisphere cup.
  • 3 0
 Snowshoe!!! Yay????????
  • 1 0
That TBC would fill great with that WC trail being built in Whistler that was covered a while back
  • 1 0
I would love to know how much flights are going to cost the teams compared to pre-covid!!
