The big mountains called and the riders certainly replied. The Alps supplied a huge challenge which opened the doors for dominating rides with hard-charging behind them.
EWS seriously needs to hire someone to do their media. Thousands and thousands of us bikers chomping at the bit for any info, footage, scraps of any kind of action. Feels like they're blowing an opertunity to tap into their keen fans lives. There has to be a truck load of money in it for them with advertising. Who owns this thing? We love your races. We love your racers. Why are you doing such a shitty job keeping us fans in the loop?
@mikekazimer: I don't understand this post either. pinkbike coverage of the EWS has been fenomenal. Sure it'd be nice to have live footage, but you can't really ask for more when it comes to media coverage, both photos and video.
@mikekazimer: I think he's referring to the fact that there is no real "video coverage" of the race per say. You guys do a great job with the highlight reels and the articles and I enjoy them thoroughly but it takes a lot of the intensity and fun out of viewing it knowing that the race has already happened. People want live footage/ results.
@bridgermurray: I just think the logistics of it all would make it really complicated, it's a really long track and generally a long event. what parts would you stream? when? only the last stage?
@bridgermurray: exactly! This post had nothing to do with pinkbike. The EWS has massive potential that is not being lived up to. I think the EWS is the future, but someone is dragging there feet. Hire 4 guys to film every stage. Post a live feed or even a recap of each stage. I can't be the only one that thinks that what is currently being produced is subpar. It's not up to Pinkbike to do the job. @mikekazimer I'm not putting this on you guys. Thanks for doing your part for the Enduro World Series, but maybe it's up to them to make themselves the big deal we think they are.
I think what would be top would be on board footage of key riders streamed via 3/4G mobile device. Won't be possible everywhere but the tech is there to make this much much better than currently.
Just need some telecoms sponsors to gain interest....
Hello! We do hire a team to do our media, we hire 9 of them, and they are some of the most talented and hard working people on the planet who have just come off a mountain and given you an awesome snapshot of what to expect in the full highlights show, from the ground, from the air, from the trackside. These stages are happening in the high mountains and back country. 450 racers spread over vast distances on epic trails. We're stoked that you want more, and we want to give you more, but we don't chose locations or trails to suit the TV, or make stages as short as a 3 minute DH race to be able to cover it live. We choose them to make our riders have the best riding experience and make sure EWS challenges the racers on every terrain type imaginable. As a comparison, the riders in La Thuile raced for more time than 5 entire seasons of World Cup DH. 5 years! And even a DH race isn't possible to watch live start to finish, in fact the final stage alone was three times the length of Mont St Anne DH and the first stage started on a remote mountain col at 2500m elevation. We're continually pushing and improving our coverage and I hope you all enjoy the incredible 20 minute highlights show that'll be on your screens in a few hours from now. For full LIVE race updates, including LIVE GPS, LIVE timing and LIVE text feed head to www.enduroworldseries.com during all of our events and click on the Race Feed. Thanks for tuning in and thanks for wanting more - trust that we're doing our very best for you!
@EnduroWorldSeries: I presume @theedon posted the comment before you posted the 21 minute highlight show. Coverage is great and the addition of the helicopter at La Thuile was great. Would be nice to hear from more of the riders on the run up to race day though.
Ok, Graves lost a 1000$ bill from his f#cking SWAT hole and returned to pick it up, Cecile saw the move and thought "no way, dude. That grand is for me"
That looked extremely intentional. He just stood above the trail then jumped out and took out the rider right on time. WTF? If I were that rider, I'd be extremely choked. Anyone know what that was about?
@RollinFoSho: Have a closer look. Revanel is clearly off the track (on the high side) as he approaches Graves. Graves reacts and jumps to the trail to try and avoid out of control Ravenal. Ravanel manages to find his line and get back onto the trail at the same time. Result is a collision and an accident. Do you honestly think Graves would intentionally do that!
@holdogs: exactly what i thought. Except for the fact that he is a woman called Cecile Ravanel. It's kind of this Atherton thing with Gee and Rachel, at least one of them is a guy.
You can see Graves is looking back at her. Graves is off-line standing on a rock. Ravanel just happens to be off-line, as well for some reason. Graves jumps out of the way right as she moves back on line. Maybe he should have been standing back a bit further, but judging from what we can see of that section, it seems like a relatively safe spot - at least to me. Looks like an unfortunate situation all around. Thankfully nobody seriously hurt.
@LuccsPB: Cecile was riding her bike way off line coming straight at graves, who was standing in what looks like a pretty safe spot. he tried to move out of her way but she managed to get back on the trail resulting in the collision.
it's just bad luck. And not that it made any difference, she still won with a 2:32 min lead.
I have a theory about tubeless tire flats due to wide rims based on my personal experience.
With wider rims, when you DO pinch, it is in the thinner sidewall area of the tire which is sure to cut the tire. In the past, on narrower rims, when you pinched it was in the tread area of the tire. That meant more tire thickness in the pinch area, which meant less likelihood to flat.
Is it possible narrower rear rims are in everyone's future? I don't know the answer, but Mavic has been taking that stand for a few years now...
in an article here a few days back, he mentioned that he's back to his ghetto tubeless set-up that he says has worked for him in previous years, i suspect that having to change racing bikes every so often had messed up their set-up somehow, he used to run burlier set up when he was at yeti, rude was smashing some rock section in a vital raw video and he still didn't flat.
I know this is just a teaser but generally there's not enough video coverage, we want more cos the quality is fantastic! They should do more behind the scenes stuff.
Did you watch the same video? I saw Ravanel charging right at him when he was standing ~2 meters by the track. Well, Graves got scared and tried to get out of her way, but they ended up colliding.
@TheJD: Ravanel was just riding his bike. Graves jumped right in front of him probably going for the tape; if he had stood still we would'nt be having this conversation.

Mid-Way thru the season, all the technology in the world at the there hands and they can't figure it out?
