SilverStar - Pipe Dream - B.C. - Canada; from Top to Bottom - By Matthew Gorveatte
I wanted to show you want it feels like to ride. The rider is Mike Fagan ( mjf420 ). Filmed over 3 days, the opening shot with the puddle goes from 30 fps to 240 to 500 to 1000 fps.

Sorry I just copy pasted this from the other video I upload one other video with a more chill song, but the song I used for this one is Bullit. The link to the other video is www.pinkbike.com/video/103013

lol I am sorry man i was sitting here with a couple of my friends. and one of my friends was reading comments to me. and said; oww here's one you dont want to hear and del it. He was f-ing around and did that I am sorry man, I would never do that. I like when ppl write comment that tell me the truth about how they feel when they watch the video. You can say it again and that wont happen.

You did a good job with the video, the only thing I would critique is the song, and the one effect that you used the whole time when you were following the rider. But other than that it was good.
- + 5
the helmet cam was really good i thought, ending was weird i was like why are you riding in the grass and then the vid was over....
- + 8
Cool as fuck idea with the helmet cam, but just lacked proffessionalism, and as a whole the riding and filming was somewhat average. The fact that the entire thing was filmed in slow motion, and therefore looked flat and dull, didnt help either.
- + 2
you forgot a whole section of the trail, may not be the best but theres the big hip stepup in the trees, i always thought it'd be a sick place to get some shots.
- + 4
smooth editing with solid filming to back it up. That allowed me to watch a mediocre rider for 6 min. Good vid overall
- + 10
ya that was edited realllly well. that movie was sick i dont care what any1 else says, in fact that would be a really good advertisement for specialized.
- + 3
everything was nice great idea with that mask while hemlet-cam shoting but I don't get your point. Why did you need money to make that movie? "I made this with no money" and "I have no sponsors [...] I need help". It didn't cost you soo much. It was cool but wait a little bit more before searching for sponsors.

Consistently good editing, I like the song choice as it gave it a more mellow feel, this worked really well in conjunction with the slo-mo to complete the effect. Personally I didn't like the helmet cam effect, even so I think that you pulled it off really well. The rest of the editing was smooth, the filming was mostly excellent although there were a couple of shots that lacked interest, if you watch the big budget films you will notice that the camera is moving in every shot, even if its just a slow pan, this makes the shot interesting even if the riding isn't. Very nice video all in all
- + 2
thanks man; that helps me out I will try harding the moving the camera, area, I agree with you all the good films I like the camera is always moving. in out up down, I am going to get a pole for my camera and swing it around, like 25 feet long

ya box thing was a bit much and ya there was just a bit much slow motion. great song choice though and pipe dream looked like a fuckin amazing trail.
- + 2
dude i have to say that was the best helmet cam section i have ever seen and the colours make everything look perfect, im supprised this video hasent made vod yet and it obvieously does deserve it.
props man

Very nice, but you must have money... the tickets for lift, your bike, the 1000fps camera, software to produce the film... not trying to be a dick, but you know.
- + 3
The camera was given to me the bike I used is the guy's I filming and the hill was closed for the year when we filmed. My parents helped me out and bought me the comp, be me as a person right now, I am sitting on this sweet stuff but have no income from my videos. So I figure I will keep on make videos and one day it will happen for me. Dont worry I am pushing hard
- + 4
Shame you cut out the first song (Prodigy) so abrupbtly, but the editing looked great, the rider-following headcam stuff is some of the best i've seen, with the cam actually looking ahead instead of at the fricking ground!!!
Love the cropped frame around it too, and the Slo-Mo was lush!

everyone who is saying its bad should just shutup, this is a good quality video from and amature who doesnt have very much money, i dont think its really time for sponsers and the song was a little iffy but this guy worked really hard and probably doesnt want all you people ragging on him, that was sick and anyone who doesnt like it should just maybe notice that is very well deservingly VOD!

darkalleydownhill, there are quite a few negative comments here but I thought it was brilliant! Kind of reminded me of the shimano saint adverts but without the high contrast dark colours. The editing with the anti shake box was novel not annoying. The whole film had a kind of vintage pop scene feel to it, which is a good change from the ordinary type of videos that get vod. Also when 90+% of mountain bikers in the world couldn't ride as well as that, I think its unfair to say average riding, but she railed it round the jumped berms and nailed the stepups. I say PROPS to you darkallydownhill, keep making the films!

another VOD (so called) that lacks just about everything...no tricks, no speed...just no pizzaz! Biking is heading in the wrong direction IMO...remember when it was about the big hits and speed? i do! Miss the days of action packed vids/clips, its all about the editing now isn't it...take a graphic arts class at your local college if your into theatrics!
- + 2
Wow. I don't normally bother to comment on vids as not many make an impression but dang this is some slick ass work. Props man, love the editing and reminded me of a fun visit to Silverstar during an awesome summer spent in your fine country. Keep truckin', with work like this rewards will surely follow. The riding was smooth as well. You also did good remixing the song as it does get a bit... funky in places. And I don't mean in a cool James Brown kind of way.
- + 3
not bad matt, i thought the effect on the helmet cam got old pretty fast, and the number of really high frame rate shots was a bit too much for me. all in all, some sick shots though, Great quality! keep up it man!
- + 2
exactly, I guess lot of ppl think that I put a black box around my footage and made it like that. no . the video is moving to get rid of the shake that i have from riding. so the video is flying around trying to compensate from my riding down the hill and shaking the camera. it is even zooming the picture as it flys it around, and calculates the path of motion. it takes hours to render the footage, I wasted alot of time doing that. the camera has built in shake reduction as well I had that on. but basically the camera was duct tape to my helmut with a custom box I built for it and a weight on the other side. looks nice to be able to get 1080i 30 frames a second hd from a helmut cam. I had a wide angle lens on and got a custom cut peace of plexy glass 10mm think in the front and a whole for my finger in the back

good video but you want to mix it up, fast bits slow bits, they'll make the slow bits look cooler and slower and the fast bits look cooler, also in my opinion the helmet cam effect got a bit old. Constructive critisism,
the video was amazing very very good rider, loved the slow mo and the puddle, very good vod, just mix it up

It looks like this short film is a lover or a hater. Ive got to say i didn't hate it, but i wasn't that impressed. The Helmet cam made me feel ill, not quite sure what you where trying to achieve there. Maybe its a new idea that needs some work. The Slow-mo was cool. But really want needed that much. It seems if i go out and buy a bike DVD 50% of the shots in most of the DVD's will be Slow motion. Is anyone else getting tired of this? The videos good, nice colour's some nice shots. and deserving of a VOD. Just a bit of C+C from me
- + 1
dont listen to any one. that vid rocks. love the slow mo stuff & that block box. it focuses the eye as u watch it. bloody brill.its ok for the pro's with top film makers&all the toys to make them look good.much harder for us mear mortals to make our selves look like biking gods

so true. man I made this with a handycam. lol. like New World Disorder is filmed on a Red One Camera. my sony is like $2000 Red One is like $50,000 with a nice lens. I dont know if a lot of ppl on this site know what that camera is, but at the end of the teaser for disorder 10; that is a very nice camera, André is looking in. It is like show up to win the world cup f1 race with a miata, lol.

Nice Edit Matt...I like it better...too bad you aren't coming on the trip this weekend...there will be some amazing riders and trails on the menu...maybe tomorrow or Monday though if you want to get out ...

Your editing style is new and refreshing. Really good to watch. Cept the music blew chunks. but thats just my opinion. I just play a song on my comp at the same time...works great! I assume you motion tracked the helmet cam stuff then decided to not crop the video after? Its actually pretty cool. If u dont mind me asking what cam did u film with? im a sucker for such nice slow mo. Nice Job.
- + 2
thx man; I love this stuff. and slow mo is so cool, I try to convey a more chill side to videos. and the slow mo helps me.
- + 1
what computer u runnin this on? must take forever to get all that tracking data. But what camera is that! i want one!
- + 1
i just thought it kinda looked like that, because with the wide angle lens on my freinds camera you kinda get an effect like that but kinda fish eyelooking when you shake it a little so it pretty much looks like he is holding a fisheye on the camera and the lens and camera move separately
- + 1
How are you not hooked up with a film company, or at least sponsored. Didn't love the helmet cam, but it was a wicked idea, just used to often I think. As for the rest of it, amazing shots. great angles, and phenomenal editing. Hope to see more soon.
- + 3
Sorry son, but do you have any idea how sick that helmet cam footage is, that is the most stable helmet cam footage EVER!!!!! SICK JOB MATTY
- + 1
The footage it self is incredible. I love every second of the movie. And the effect with the camera moving around on screen was really cool, just for me it felt it was used to often. Perhaps if it was mixed in with just raw helmet cam footage I would have found it better. Just my personal opinion.

Overall a great effort. Certainly some talent that will develop well. I like the efforts to film and edit the helmet cam. That kind of enthusiasm when combined with experience will make for some interesting stuff to come I'm sure. Only criticism I'll give is length. Until you are a master, it is hard to keep people's attention for longer than 3 minutes. As much as I like the video, I skipped ahead. But it was worthy enough to spend time writing about it.
Keep up the good efforts.

Nice Matt a little too much slo-mo but WTH awesome you should try tos ell that to SS as a promo vid for 2010. Good luck with the filming.
- + 2
Don't "ask", you have to sell yourself, the movie, and your services. The sales pitch is all about the benefits of the movie for promotional purposes - making riders want to book a flight/journey out there and go shred SS. They should look at Sun Peaks website because they always have decent locally shot vids on the home page.
Personally, I think if you keep working at your skills and build up a local reputation for killer creative vids, you have something very marketable. Mix in some lifestyle aspects of the sport too and you have a different offering.

nice; I know what you mean, I have been working hard in that realm. you will see in about 2 weeks, I am holding back a video from all of you. lol. I will upload soon tho. I hope to be able to bring a whole lot more next year.

I just got back from sun peaks I rode the last two days. it was open it was so nice, I had a glory team with rc 40s and codes. sooo good on sun peaks. love bombing I would have to say. that one with the wall ride and the wood drops, and nice fast section to step rocks, man I was eating that up. I loved it. I need to get out to whistler before it closes. or some local trails like addition. oww ya and I hit a trail in kamloops called Rio. oww ya that was a killer trail, I recommend that trail for sure.

i think the specialized people r thanking u for putting this up, good riding man, loved the helmet cam

specialized sx trail i think
kinda looks like mine
check it out and see if its the same
theres photos of it on my profile

cant believe there are so many wankers giving you shit for this. For an amateur film maker with no money I think its original and highly professional looking, although of course it would be even more awesome if you had peaty or brandon semenuk riding but hey, who cares?

nice man thx, I am filming steve romaniuk all next week so, ahhh . lol, you just wait and see. should be very minty
