 can you get your friends to ride with you? That's how I got into it. My friend wanted me to come along so I gave it a shot. I picked up my first bike for super cheap ($20 hardrock). Once I got hooked I started upgrading and upgrading.

The problem you'll have is that your friend's might not have a bike. soooo, you end up picking up a bike to compliment your main ride. Smile easier said than done of course. If you have an xc, pick up a long travel AM bike. Or a slope bike. Something that you'll use on your own and can loan to friends. You win, they win. I always lend my second bike out to friends in hope that they get hooked enough to buy their own.
