bigquotesOur goal for Shreducation was basically the goal for all of my videos: inspire people to ride. Everyone has responsibilities to deal with, whether it's school, work, or whatever, but I think it's important to make time for what you enjoy doing. Right now with everybody back to school and winter in the air, hopefully this lights a fire to get out and go shred!

Shreducation

bigquotesThe waterfall drop was the most intimidating stunt of the video. Everything looks different on film, but in person that drop is pretty blind and the landing is sniper. It's extremely narrow for the size of the drop and not too long either. Since you couldn't see the tranny until a couple feet before take-off I took a lot of run-ups to try and gauge it.

Shreducation

bigquotesFor the final jump of the video, I think I picked Scott up at 5:00 a.m. or something ridiculous since it had to be a sunrise shot. It looks like it's a summer evening in that shot, but it's actually shot on New Year's Eve, middle of winter. We had to drive an hour to the spot and then bush-wack for a half hour through snow-covered brush to get to the jump. Scott will tell you ''it's chill,'' but it was like a death march even getting there. The jump's lip and landing were iced over and I broke up the ice with a shovel. It was really sketchy because the ground was rock-hard; even without ice it was really slippery. It wasn't easy but when everything clicks for a shot it's a great feeling.

Mission accomplished!

Also inspired to watch all of Deans other videos now. Every time I see a Tennant or Akrigg posting I feel like a little kid on Christmas

Also inspired to throw some shovels once the rain hits!
  • 13 0
Also inspired to learn new pencil trick!
  • 2 1
Yea I agree too. Great video but could of used a little less slow motion in my opinion. That river gap though! Sooo sick

This was awesome. I would love to see more of stuff like this, kind of like "beyond the bike" but for average mountain bikers who balance regular life and shredding.
  • 13 1
I agree, this kind of stuff is way more inspiring than watching yet another pro-rider clip.
  • 2 0
 That was absolutely incredible!

Melissa Buhl went through grad school, all payed for by KHS. Im trying to figure how to get some riding time with full time school and work. How do you stay on top and do school?!

Awesome vid Dean and Scott! Making it look easy!!

That edit was awesome! and you know your edit is sick when @bretttippie comments on it!
  • 13 0
Thanks Brett, means a lot coming from a legend!

As a fellow civil engineering student, I know its hard to balance work and play. I already find it difficult to manage my time between assignments, rock climbing and riding but the motivation keeps me going. Huge respect to those who are busy with work/school and still be passionate about their sport and making time for it!

Have you also mastered the art of spinning a pencil round your thumb?
  • 11 0
Well that's one transition he's not struggling with....
  • 12 0
Just wait until you work full time and are a husband and father, making riding time that much more important. Oh, and I have mastered the art of spinning a pencil around my thumb.
  • 2 0
that's what I spent the better part of 2nd year of med school mastering... the pencil thumb flip. good times.
  • 5 0
I'm pretty jealous of that pencil spin. I never cracked it myself.
  • 14 0
Boris the hacker from goldeneye had the best pencil spin in the game, watch n learn.
  • 6 0
 "I am invincible!"
  • 2 0
The real trick is to do the normal thumb spin and then spin your pencil back the opposite direction without stopping. If that makes any sense whatsoever
  • 4 0
Wait till you have a wife, kids, mortgage etc, spinning a pencil becomes easy !
  • 2 0
I have all those things. Super fun

@alexsneakz was I the only to get that pun?!

Major in Tourism and Outdoor Leadership, half my "school work" is out on the bike and it is a double bachelor's degree partnered with Sustainability. It is the only way I can get through school and get a degree haha

Triple thumbs up @scottsecco for the use of The Rural Alberta Advantage! mountainbiking, Dean and this song were a match made in heaven!

Thanks @nofear259! One of my absolute favourite songs and bands ever.

Awesome riding and edit ................ but Dean I had to smile when you said you're a student and find it difficult to find the time. Wish I could get back all the wasted hours from my student days getting up at noon, hungover and missing lectures. It only gets harder when you start work, then you get married and it gets harder, then you have kids and it gets harder still. Its not all doom and gloom though mate! Get the right attitude and the right wife and you'll find the time ......... even if its at 5am in the pouring rain in October :-)

Dean nails both the riding and Scotts "chill" walk in to the last step down. "Death" March is exactly what it felt like when I went there too!

Great work Scott / Dean
  • 5 0
 Really great video!

Even without the descriptions you can get a great sense from the filming that most of that stuff was far, far sketchier, narrower and more slimy than the awesome riding made it look Smile

At .50 seconds is the best bike thing I've ever seen. Plus RRA and shooting in low light look so good. So awesome.
  • 12 5
My, goodness, what an awful singer for such an otherwise great video.

 +1 for Archer!

the camera always seems to tame it down and you make it all look so trivial...easy to forget that as a viewer. But some of the moves you're doing are downright awesome.
  • 3 0
Ohh, being a student and mtber i Vancouver is hard? Tell me about it...
What about being a student, having to work for yourself and living in Polad with no decent trails nearbySmile
We all should aprreciate our lives much more, anyways we're in awesome situation if we can only get our bikes and do some laps. That's not getting any better than this!
  • 4 1
This is simply amazing.. Dean dedication is incredible and has a student I can really understand what it takes ..
My blowing stuff ! From Dean "shredding'" abilities to Scott videography skills.. !

Some of the best riding and shot composition I have seen. The opening bike shot is so unique and perfectly shot... that waterfall sequence is mind blowing technically and visually. You guys killed it!

I have uni exams in 3 days... It's 12am and I'm on pinkbike. From my perspective, I'm so grateful that I found my love for this sport when I was young and not old. I'm willing to risk more so that I can enjoy what I love rather than what I don't... I think older people who have families and a full time job need to take more risks in their life too rather than telling us young ones that "we have it all", you have it to... You just have to make the time for it and take risks.
  • 5 1
yeah. scott u always awesome edits

Amazing video, one of the best of the year. BUT using The Rural Alberta Advantage on a BC edit seems sacrilegious.

Yeah, way too much slow, I got bored & chipped it off!
  • 15 5
Wtf is wrong with all the people hating slo mo. Seriously is your life so miserable you need to find something to bitch about in something that's made for you to enjoy? Videos are supposed to be diverse, just like you won't watch a guy driving a road bike on a flat road for miles, it sucks to watch a video from one perspective or style.
  • 6 8
Shred effect is reduced with so much slomo and shot repetition. Cool trails and riding though.
