Chris Akrigg, better known for his trials riding, has taken to the streets on his new fixed gear bike the Mongoose Maurice.
This film documents his first week of riding on a fixed gear bike.

For some reason I doubt this is his first week on one. He's obviously better than 90% of fixed gear riders around the world. I don't think the description is the least bit accurate. Although the video itself is bad ass!

I don't like this video. I also have a problem with fixies...

Edison was one of the fist people ever to do stunts on a bike, and you are right. Some are above in this video. Funny thing is, that up until the mid to late 70's, fixed gear bikes were reserved for the circus. Barnum and Baily used them as a "main attraction".

rattbones isn't 100% correct up there lol... track bikes were and still are fixed gear and they were racing track bikes way before the 70s lol
and no, fixies don't have to be brakeless. Again, it's track bikes that are brakeless. A lot of fixie riders ad brakes to their rides obviously to brake faster and also to do more tricks
Suicidedownhiller, It's fine if you have a problem with a VOD. I have no issue with that. But this was a good fixie video. Some may have a problem with fixie vids making vod, the whole point of this site is to support diverse modes of cycling. I actually liked this vod. It was something different that we don't get to see much of. I've see some crazy fixie trick videos that rival some trials videos. We might try to differentiate road/ss/fixie from DH/FR/DJ/XC/etc.... but when it all boils down to it, it's people riding their bikes having fun. I like it when a VOD shows some great mtb riding, but I also like a well made vod featuring ANY kind of riding. If it's entertaining, and supports cycling in general, I'm all for it. This video deserves VOD. It is a chance for people to show a random friend who doesn't ride any bike a look int out entire culture just like all vods. Anything that we get to see that is awesome is just another avenue to show a friend that there is more to commuting, mountainbiking, road riding, etc.... They see stuff like this and they get into it. They help further our passion for bikes of all kinds and all disciplines. The more riders we get from any genre, the better.
And before anyone jumps on what I said and wants to bash suicide downhiller, just don't. I'm not trying to get people to start stuff with him. My comment wasn't directed at just him. It was directed at all people who crap all over various vods, or pods, without offering any good other alternative.
It all boils down to our overall love of riding a bike. Sometimes hopping on my road bike and taking crazy paths around town provides me with a great feeling just the same as taking my bike into the hills and bombing a rough trail. We all love every bike we have for one reason or another, and to neglect and deny any part of riding in all aspects is to in essence disrespect our pedal powered sport in all variations. Some XC riders can be arrogant, some DH riders can become arrogant, some DJ riders can be arrogant, and some RD riders can be arrogant. Those people don't ensure the longevity of our sport. Only by being a community can we help propel our big ass wheeled bikes into a truly great sport by managing to pull together and offer ways to evolve what we do.

Little from column A, and a little from column B. Suicidedownhiller has some pretty good points. Cyrix also has a valid point, just a novel to put it across. It's got nothing to do with hating a VOD. Half the VOD videos just shouldn't be VOD. It gets irritating that day in and day out the VOD's are always super professional edits with top riders in them. Yet, the site itself is set up and supposed to be about and for the common rider. Other VOD's are simply downloaded and stolen material. So when you have two ripped off videos, and then two fixie videos make VOD all in a row, it's no wonder the PB users are getting a salty taste in their mouths.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, yet when people on this site exercise that right, they get slammed for it. I still maintain that the admins should (at the very least) put something up with the VOD and POD that states exactly why they chose it. What they liked about it, and exactly why it made VOD.

I wasn't trying to put much thought into this, I'm just for promoting any aspect of cycling in general. By disrespecting another aspect of it, we open our own riding focus to the same disrespect and criticism. I don't care if someone hates a vod or pod, but to just hate on it without giving a better alternative we just perpetuate ill be-gotten hate towards other riding styles. The cycling community is one community. Once we start perpetuating hate between disciplines we open the door for those against all factions of riding to fight against us. Trust me, I've seen commuting, dh riding, xc riding, dj riding, and other aspects receive bureaucratic limitations and restrictions simple because various riders around my town couldn't pull together to fight back for our rights to ride in general because of unnecessary hate between different groups of riders. Once we start disrespecting other styles of riding we open ourselves to control and limitations imposed by local government. We all need to stick together.

Thats kind of the cool thing about it though. Yeah a lot of people think its kind of a fashion statement or a trendy thing and it is, but because its kind of difficult to do tricks and whatever since its fixed it makes it kind of challenging. Its just bikes. whatever. plus you can wheelie the things for miles. its pretty fun stuff. I'm just sayin.

yeah but he's trying to push a sport in a direction which is wrong. admittedly he has ridden a fixed gear well but the chances are he won't ride this bike to often as the sport will not progress as well as other two wheeled sports because of the lack of a freewheel, put one on and its not really anything new is it.

At 2:30 there is F*ck Pigs on the wooden fence chris is riding, I think it was written by banksy as he has actually sprayed it on the side of a pig before and the city bath contains some of his other works, so nice one riding a banksy! (only brits will probably understand what i've just said!)
