bigquotesI've always believed bikes have the power to change people's lives, and especially through the work done with World Bicycle Relief. It is an organisation close to my heart and I'm very happy to support where I can and keep raising awareness for their important work in Africa and beyond. Nino Schurter

bigquotesWe are thrilled about the partnership with SCOTT Sports, the SCOTT-SRAM team and Nino Schurter in this extraordinary campaign to raise funds for World Bicycle Relief. This initiative not only offers donors a chance to win an amazing bike but also to make a lasting difference in the lives of those who receive a Buffalo Bicycle. A huge thanks to the global SCOTT Sports community for helping provide brighter futures for so many through the Power of Bicycles. World Bicycle Relief CEO, Dave Neiswander

Scott has created a unique custom design for Nino this week inspired by the South African national colours.

Nino is running a full SRAM XX SL Transmission drivetrain with a power meter equipped crankset.

With the long stages, riders must carry their own kit and water supply between feed zones. Nino is using Topeak's Burrito pack with its Airbooster CO2 inflator.

Will 2024 see Nino back on the top step of the podium at the end of the week?

photo
To keep track of the stages Nino is running a Garmin Edge 130 Plus computer mounted to his usual choice of Syncros Fraser IC SL WC -40° bars in a 700mm width.

The recently released SIDLuxe Flight Attendant shock is a snug fit inside the Scott Spark frame.

The bike has already picked up one stage win with Nino Schurter and his teammate Sebastian Fini leading the general classification after two days.

At what does he start mounting his stem to the underside of the top tube?
  • 13 2
 headtube*
  • 17 0
Direct mount stem - straight to the fork crown.

@ratedgg13: Well that would be CAFE RACER...
  • 8 3
@greg390: sir this is a mtb site. What "cafe" blasphemy are you typing
  • 3 2
@ratedgg13: I was expecting for that to happen much earlier. With those negative rise stems, they can't spin the bars around anyway. A direct mount stem allows for a much taller hence stronger headtube without getting in the way. I think the only thing holding them back is that they feel the audience isn't quite ready for cables and hoses guided through the lower headset bearing.

If XC fork travel ever increases to 140mm we could see some crazy bar/stem combinations.

Sweet paint job for a good cause.
  • 2 0
Indeed, I am always jealous when see the riders with custom paint jobs.

I think we can see why officially Spark is not Flight attendant compatible. The bottom shock cover is larger/deeper on Ninos Spark than on the store model bike. And the valve/battery config is different than regular shock.
  • 6 0
Yea, that's really interesting. Maybe the sprak design isn't so good after all
  • 2 0
That's the shock cover from the Spark ST.
  • 2 1
So much for all the in frame storage space, amirite? It's a shame he can't have his tool pack inside the triangle and away from all of the rear wheel spray.

Get entered into the raffle to win this bike at www.viprize.org/nino! The bike is a Medium and World Bicycle Relief is raffling it off along with a personal hand-off from Nino at the Crans-Montana World Cup (where they will also pay for your travel and lodging).

Man I love the look of XC bikes. Really hoping Nino can get the win this year!

You might not like the frame design or the headset cable routing or the low bar but the paintjob is awesome!
  • 3 0
Ha, a seat bag, what a Fred. Someone should tell this guy he needs in-frame storage.
  • 2 1
Dirt roadies REALLY care about weight. Lame bike check if that isn't included for this type of bike.
(Not implying that Nino is a dirt roadie because he rips the downhill too)

I don't think Nino can carry two bottles inside his main triangle by just looking at the first picture...
  • 6 0
Check the close ups of the front triangle, there are at least 3 bosses on the downtube, so the cage can probably be mounted in different positions. The most forward once could leave room for a 2nd bottle on the seat tube.
  • 1 1
@FPi The Spark holds 2 bottles even on S size.
  • 2 0
It says that the frame is custom. Why no info? Size, lay-up or something else? Is this a Scott PR-dep. written article?
  • 2 0
You can't fit a flight attendent rear shock in the regular frame, so I'm assuming the customisation is around this feature.
  • 3 0
do we get a weight check? be interesting to know

Always love seeing Nino's builds. Always insane bikes. That thing looks like a rocket ship.
  • 2 0
I would NOT wanna work on that....
  • 2 0
 Turn that frown upside down

OKO Sealant?? I always says OKO and Slime are the best sealant, that Stan's is like water!!!
  • 2 0
 I wish I was 68kg
  • 1 0
Do you know what brand is the saddle bag?
  • 1 0
 What size frame?
  • 1 0
 Medium
  • 3 4
That frame looks like it was shurt upon
  • 2 0
But You would like to feel the speed of this machine , I would .
