I’ve not been to Squamish but I’m guessing it’s formed as part of a pluton. Basically a big underground eruption where the rock and soil on top insulates the magma underneath so it forms giant big crystalline rock structures (like granite) over Millenia the blanketing rock and soil eroded away leaving the big hard wearing large crystal
