Keeping things fun and simple, Henry Quinney and Christina Chappetta set out to warm up on some tame blue runs at Whistler Bike Park. But don't be fooled, these trails are anything but boring.
Link to the lap here in case you want to check it out for yourself.
@slowerthanmydentist: They might get the mess under the chair cleaned up so they can open it. Lower Canadian Open needs to be renamed Lower Canadian Closed, that trail is gone.
@ridedigrepeat: Im seriously considering highland or killington trip next year. Or snowshoe for a tech overdose. Had time on all three? Any suggestions?
@cougar797: If you're coming from out west I'd aim for August or September for the best chance of dry conditions and the most trails open. If you want to just ride bike parks, I'd do Highland, Thunder, and Killington. I've never been to Snowshoe but I've heard its very old school (and there are better parks in North Carolina if you want to go there).
Highland: Go on a weekday. The lift is slow and the lines are long on the weekends! There is super gnarly tech and some really fun jumps here! Plus tons of massive features that will scare you. Look before you leap because the trails are usually not intuitive... and if you launch blindly you could end up in jagged rocks or in the woods. Must rides are: Cats Paw (blue jumps), Helion (black jumps), Eastern Hemlock (old school new england steep tech), (but you can probably ride it all in a day).
Thunder: Lots of old school tech, a few fun jumps, and some insanely massive jumps. Very fun park and good for an enduro bike (go find the enduro trails!)
Killington: Super fast tech & flow! Amazing jump lines (jump start and step it up are actually my favorite jump trails, but Blue and Black magic are fun). Make sure to catch the Gondola and find Cable Trail (best trail on the hill, even though it is short), then over to Yo Vinny for some nasty old-school tech. Also make sure to ride Krusty (super fast blue/black tech that has incredible berms). A great lap is to start on Blue Magic, then go to Krusty, then end on Goat Skull (the DH race course). We call it the Blue Krusty Goat.
I'd save Killington for the weekend, because it spreads folks out really well with the 3 lifts and it also will destroy your hands.
If you need more park than that, go up to Bolton Valley for some really unique tech riding. Must-dos are Double Down & Hydra. Then go climb up to Wilderness Peak to ride one of the steepest trails in the east: Outslaw.
If you need even more park, go to Burke, and get a shuttle pass to the top! Ride Upper Jay Bar and DH Trail (now Rude Awakening) for some incredible tech that drops you back into the park.
Pro tip: Get a Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA) membership and you get a free ticket to Killington, and Bolton, and a BOGO for Burke.
Just stayed at Creekside for a couple of weeks and my warm up was Freight Train to Dirt Merchant(or Angry Pirate) to Lower A line. The most fun I've had on a bike-ever!!
Oh yeaaah. Maybe not quite my warmup lap but def my mid day multi lap fav. Met ya at creek side with the wife after your marathon weeks at Whis. Glad you had an awesome time here!
Good on ya @henryquinney for A) riding Whistler at all 2) riding with @christinachappetta - who we know dunked all over the place and D) not even being upset about it (publically). Last I heard on the podcast was Henry saying he hadn't been, wasn't really a bike park fan, wasn't even interested and... did that maybe change now after riding it ??? Desperate PB fans wanna know.
As the trees get taller, they drink more water and it gets dustier. So if you want more moisture in your trail , try cutting down some trees. Don’t though
@ybsurf: lies…are you taking notes like I do on the weather?
Doubt it cause then youd see that it hasnt been getting hotter and dryer every year…Last summer was significantly cooler and wetter than the previous year. I can tell you that July 17th 2022, was the day the weather finally shifted to a hotter ,drier trend after WEEKS of cold rainy weather….2003 and 2004 were hottest after 2020…WE EVEN HAD FREAKING SNOW ON GARBO LAST WEEK!
Climate is changing, but that doesnt mean its WARMING UP every years…Humans are definitely contributing but to this day we cant, prove wether it is a natural cycle or entirely human caused.
Stop parroting the media and the government bs and start taking notes…Youre being programmed.
Less of a mtb vibe and more rich ski resort I guess.
Also, the most vert on the east coast by a fair margin.
