PRESS RELEASE: Fezzari

Named for La Sal Peak near the start of the Whole Enchilada trail in Moab, the La Sal is built to ride the most technical trails. Point it downhill and the La Sal will eat up the roughest trails, then turn around and climb the mountain like you were on an XC bike. Designing the La Sal was a tall order from the beginning. We had a long checklist and high standards the La Sal had to meet, including a progressive suspension design for small bump sensitivity and a bottomless fee on big hits, XC category pedal efficiency, a 5 lb frame weight, and the strength to be able to carry a lifetime warranty.
-150 mm rear travel / 160 mm front travel
-65 degree headtube angle with short offset fork
-78 degree effective seat tube angle
-435 mm Chainstay
-Holds 2 standard water bottles inside front triangle
-CleanCatch cable routing
-Threaded bottom bracket
-CleanCast Carbon layup - reduced weight and improved strength

Suspension

Designed to smash through the roughest enduro courses and efficiently pedal 6k ft climbs, the 160 mm front and 150 mm of rear-travel eat up rocks and roots to leave your wheels planted and in control so you can go faster and be more comfortable while you do it. The progressive nature of our Tetralink suspension delivers a plush ride on small bumps with a supportive mid-stroke and bottom-out protection for big hits.

This is not a bike just for smashing downhills, it is a very capable climber. No need to suffer more than you have to. The La Sal will get you through stage transfers or to the top of your favorite downhill faster and have you feeling fresher.

bigquotesWe went through iteration after iteration on the suspension linkage to dial in the feel. The La Sal had to excel on the downhill and uphill, and I feel like we hit a home run.Tyler Cloward, director of product at Fezzari Bicycles

Geometry

The La Sal was designed to give you confidence on steep descents and rough terrain. The 65-degree headtube angle combined with short 42 mm or 44 mm offset forks will make the bike feel planted over rough terrain and allows the rider to smash through rock gardens. Short 435 mm chainstays keep the La Sal nimble and agile in tight switchbacks, and sending it to the sidehill on hits along the trail.

Development

We set out to build the top enduro race bike, and push it further by making it pedal the best, while not overlooking any of the small details like cable management, bottle cage compatibility, 29x2.6 tires size compatibility, 36T max chainring, ISCG-05 mounts for chain guides, short seat tube for longer dropper posts, and flush-mount fit and finish on bolts and bearings.

Once the suspension design, geometry, and finishing details are brought together on paper, a 3D-printed prototype frame was made to ensure everything will work in the real world.

3D Printing allows Fezzari to speed up the design process and check how the complete bike goes together

bigquotes3D Printing has really allowed us to speed up our production timeline. It has allowed us to find mistakes early in the process at a time when they can be easily corrected before opening a carbon mold. Things like cable routing,, tire and chainring clearance, and tube shaping aesthetics can all be double-checked with a full-scale printed prototype before any carbon fiber is actually laid. It is a huge advantage in building a better bike.Cloward

Every Fezzari is custom fit the rider’s measurements and backed by Fezzari’s No Risk Just Ride Guarantee, which includes a lifetime warranty and a 30-day Love It or Return It Guarantee.

Someone got the old lapierre molds cheap

I was just thinking the same thing ... What do you think are the odds that this is reality?
  • 8 1
@skijosh: I get why @Fluh made the comment, but they show a picture above of an actual 3D printed prototype. Why go through the bother and expense if that were the case?

@Hyakian: If you're asking that question, then you obviously don't get why he made that comment.
  • 13 4
@skijosh: Not the case here. I've been to their HQ and have seen the process they went through. This was built from the ground up using their own molds and is wildly more modern than any Lapierre.
  • 4 2
@wpplayer18: Eh? So, you're suggesting that they created a 3d printed proto so people wont think/assume that they are just selling an open mold product? While i see the similarities in some of the design, the tooling is still significantly different to my eye.
  • 9 5
@Hyakian: I'm suggesting he made a joke and it went over your head...

Where the name of the brand 'Fezzari' come from ?
  • 2 2
Am I missing something here? Was that not a joke?

@wpplayer18 @Hyakian: their last 6 or 7 frames were just cheap Chinese molds that they tried to advertise as special. It would not be surprising if they literally used someone else's mold and then later created a 3D model to make it appear as though they did something "novel" or "proprietary"
  • 34 2
@skijosh: If you are ever around our headquarters in Utah feel free to drop by and we can walk you through the whole development process.
  • 3 0
@frix182: the name was made up by the son of the owner.

@mtbenthusiastsofutah: sure, this is better than a Lapierre... because fezzari has Nico Vouilloz developing their bikes, not Lapierre.
  • 4 0
@skijosh: Yeah, I've paid attention to the product history, in this case however, I just don't agree with the assertion that this is out of Lapierre mold. OTOH, there isn't too much new under the sun, so anyone can look at it and claim it looks like a session (or in this case a Spicy) i suppose.

@wpplayer18 lol - perhaps, though I don't think he was joking (based up subsequent posts)l.

Anyway - #whodaphuccares? it's not a bad looking bike at all, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a test ride.
  • 3 1
@Hyakian: You win some and you lose some whenever you're on PB.

Two bottle cages, steep seat angle, great geo, great spec, reasonable prices, threaded BB, and a LIFETIME FRAME WARRANTY?! Pretty amazing!
  • 8 0
oh and they'll let you try the bike and return it within 30 days if you don't like it (and they pay return shipping). craaaazy
  • 2 3
Agreed. My only question is if the head angle could or should be slacker if you’re going to run a short offset fork... not a deal breaker for me though. Can wait for a review.
  • 17 2
I'm assuming this is a Utah based company since most of their models are named after peaks in the state. This bike looks pretty badass if you take a min to check it out. Between the posted numbers and value, this should be a frontrunner. I REALLY hope we get to see a good review on it.
  • 4 0
Yes Utah based company. Pretty rad company too.
  • 8 0
I second this, I would really like to see a good long term review as this bike does tic a lot of boxes. A head to head with the new Capra 29 would be rad as well although with 2 water bottle cages I think we all know who the clear winner is lol.

nobody uses two waterbottles ... wanna add 1kg on your bike .. ? have 0.5l and fill it back
  • 14 0
@RedBurn: Two days in in a row this weekend I rode with two water bottles, one in the frame and one on my fanny pack. Would much rather just have it all on the bike instead of on my back.
  • 3 0
 Game changer.
  • 8 0
Besides, this argument isn't even valid. You'll have drank most of your water by the time you reach the top of the hill so really there will hardly be any weight in your empty water bottle in your oh so more playful when 0.5kg lighter bike.

@RedRedRe: so you're one of those retards who bought an enduro bike for lift-assisted dowhnill riding??? Just because it's faster in the blue flow trails doesnt mean you're not slowing everybody down on the real trails. Get the f*ck out of my way

They make good bikes at good prices. Same as yet, canyon. I know a couple of people with one. However the name is too close to Ferrari. Similar naming tricks are usually associated with super cheap Chinese copies of luxury goods. The Fezzari name is the brand biggest limit. I am sure it is easy to remember but defianitley non memorable.
  • 7 0
This actually looks like a good value and some well thought out design features. The marketing was a bit over the top (climbs like an XC bike, descends like a DH bike) but I'd try one out for sure.
  • 9 0
I see they've gone with the Mondaraker "pre crashed" front end.
  • 2 0
The TT kink does look a little weird at some angles. My GG Smash has a similar bend in the TT that you don't notice 90% of the time, but occasionally you're like "damnit why is that there?!?" On the Smash, it's because they use the same TT tubing for all sizes, so on some sizes it's more apparent than on others. On the Mondraker, it looks pretty good.

If I needed a bike, i'd get the entry level one immediately. Dropper, Lyric, carbon, looks, geo, good pedaling reviews, lifetime warranty.....3600+tax.
  • 3 0
I saw a bunch of these and their other bikes at Deer Valley over the weekend. I wondered when they got good looking bikes and from what I saw they freaking move. Almost made me want to go test one.
  • 2 0
Just demoed this bike and it is absolutely fantastic. I've demoed many Fezzari bikes in the past and never liked them and even had a negative perception of the company as a whole for a lot of the reasons people have posted above. BUT, this bike is the best I've ever demoed. We rode it on a jump trail named Levitate in utah so big berms and medium sized table tops with a couple of rock gardens and it rides amazing. The climb up felt almost as efficient as my specialized carve and the out of saddle climbing was flawless. This bike is a serious step up for Fezzari. (Bikes demoed: Trek Remedy, bis HD4 mojo, Giant Trance, Santa Cruz High Tower)

this bike checks every single box for me, but I'd buy it for the seat tube angle alone...
  • 5 0
 Talk about seat tube angle

This bike looks like a great option for those trips up to the big mountains or bike parks. My only complaint is the lack of aluminum options. This goes for all bike companies, I cannot bring myself to buy a carbon frame or wheels. Please make aluminum options of bikes if you want more people on them.
