The results are in from the final round of the 2023 Enduro World Cup. After a full day of racing, Raphaël Giambi tops the U21 Men's standings as he just pulled ahead of Lisandru Bertini by 1.9 seconds. No other rider would be within 14 seconds of the leading French pair with Lief Rodges leading a group of three Canadian riders inside the top five. Simona Kuchynkova wins the final race in 2023 as she was ahead of Emily Carrick-Anderson by only 0.11 seconds. Delia Da Mocogno ends the day in third place after a great performance.

Morgane Charre wins in Châtel after an incredibly close battle with Isabeau Courdurier. Enduro racing doesn't get much better than the fight between Morgane and Isabeau today as the French racers traded blows across the seven stages of racing. While Morgane may have won the race the 2023 series title goes to Isabeau. If you count EDR and EWS as the same thing then she has her third overall series title.

Jesse Melamed is dominant in the final round of 2023 winning four of the seven stages and leads the race by 11 seconds. Alex Rudeau puts in a great effort on home soil to secure 2nd place. 24 seconds back and in third place is the first-ever EDR series champion as Richie Rude does enough to win the overall title for the season.

I really wish they would stop with the “first ever” crap. You changed the name so now it is something completely different than the previous 10 years?
  • 2 0
Also does anyone else think EDR sounds stupid? Ews rolled off the tongue better and made more sense.
  • 43 0
Love the graphics! Nice work @edspratt.

Also, Uhoh Richie! Picked it up for stage three but this is cutting it close.

The graphics in my opinion are pointless, would be much better if each stage listed the top 10 or 15 stages times and overall, would be much better to know who’s where outside of just the top 5
  • 20 0
@jimmythehat: The graphs do show the top 10 for the stage and the overall? I'm just trying this format out for the first time today but we can try and show more in the future. For now, if you want to see further down the standings we have the live timing at the top of the article.
  • 2 0
@jimmythehat: That's on this page, the embedded live timing.
  • 1 3
@edspratt: The live timing only shows each stage result or current overall from stage 5 for example where only half the field has finished, so this doesn’t show current leaderboard at all, then it will move onto stage 6 and repeat
  • 2 0
@jimmythehat: You should be able to view past stages. For me, if I click on the overall tab it comes up with the previous stages to select.
  • 1 2
@edspratt: maybe it’s not iPhone friendly?!
  • 2 0
@edspratt: This has worked really weirdly all season. On my phone (Android) I used to be able to click that and indeed get a drop down menu with the overalls for each stage. Just today I kept tapping on it a couple of dozen times before anything happened. Similarly when viewing on a computer (Chrome) the drop down sometimes works, sometimes not. Doesn't matter if trying here with the embedded feed or directly on the UCI timing site. So yeah it is a bit frustrating not really being able to follow the overall situation properly during the race, but it's hardly Pinkbike's fault.
  • 5 0
Boggles the mind not only how fast the top 3-4 dudes are, but how consistently fast. Most can’t get the pointy end of the stick let alone stay there stage after stage.
  • 1 0
@jimmythehat: give it a refresh. Mine would run clean for a few minutes and then seemingly get corrupted.
  • 2 0
Richie has to walk the fine line between still getting decent times, but not pushing it so hard he risks a bad fall or a flat, which is pretty much the only way he'd lose the overall.
  • 2 0
 @edspratt: Absolutly killing it!
The graphs, animations, details are great, keep it up
Thanks a tonne @edspratt, and all the PB staff!
  • 1 0
@onawalk: Agree !!! Solid job, thank you PB !!!!
  • 3 0
Agreed! Thanks for this! I’ve been wanting to see a ‘story of the race’ for enduro.
  • 1 0
@JesseMelamed: Big congrats on 2nd for the season, you're alegend, and an athlete for all aspiring to look up to!
Get some rest in the off season, get yourself some good coffee, Seven Summits in Rossland is fantastic! The riding is pretty epic as well.
  • 23 0
@edspratt singlehandedly keeping EDR alive for the people
  • 19 2
The 15 or so comments after hours of racing really sums up where enduro is at. A massive rethink needs to happen ASAP. Get a proper live feed on the go again, pay a few photographers to feed you info as it happens, ask marshals to call in any fun pieces of information and for God's sake do what jack moir said and have the reseed happen before the final stage and televise it. Even the start gate and the final 20 seconds of track for the top 20 men and women would be enough to get some form of race feeling going.
  • 4 1
Remember Super D? Turn enduro back into that. Easy to follow, televise, would be excited to watch, and the athletes would still be racing the same type of bike most of us joes ride.
  • 18 0
Brilliant racing. For the overall to come down to this last race is just epic. May the best riders win.
Thanks @edspratt for the up to date info delivered asap.
  • 20 0
Well done Ed - your coverage here is great - hope the folks 'organising' the series can pick up on this - it's all that is needed until the video highlights come through. If you look hard enduro / rally reports / dakar etc it's what they do. Thanks again Ed the work is appreciated (although judging by the glare from my boss as he saw me shut down a window perhaps not by all!)
  • 1 0
Yes, thank you for the quick updates and discriptions! Well done! Go Rude!
  • 12 0
Well done Jakob Jewitt! Representing Pivot nicely in the absence of injured Ed Masters ( I know its a different category but still a top five). And of course Morgane's win is nice to finish the season, she's been in the fight all year and its good to end on a high note. I wonder if Pivot will stick around as a team for next year??
  • 8 0
 Thanks!
  • 3 0
Why they’d not continue? They have more potential in enduro than downhill. Morgane solid top 3, Matt and Ed in the top 10 mix with Matt winning a race this year.
  • 2 0
@kiisseli: They did have a 5th overall in the world championship men's elite last year as well as the women's junior World Champion so they aren't completely off the radar in DH either. I do think they will stick in both in a large part because not only are they very cost-efficiently managed but they have a LOT of publicity on the "privateer media" with BK, Janaynay, EdBull TV, and regular appearances on Dialed, Moimoi, and WynTV. All of us punters have acknowledged those have been our best viewing sources this past season.
  • 11 0
@edspratt No doubt will correct me if I am wrong, but I have it at:

Ritchie Rude: 2582
Jesse Mel: 2443
I believe Alex falls to third but I didn't do the math on him.

Izzy wins Womens.

Pretty crazy that under a new banner (for worse or for worse), the same names rose to the top to claim the first ever EDR titles (or 11th EWS but whatever), with their closest rivals nipping at their heels. The sport is a great spot, competitively... If only it had the coverage!
  • 6 0
The racing in all disciplines this year has been amazing.
  • 6 1
@domo-kun: agreed, despite the uci's best efforts to screw everything up.
  • 9 0
Who's in charge of the live feed, it's absolute garbage, it just refreshes randomly. You can't even scroll it properly on mobile either!!

What's the point of it even existing?
  • 1 0
Exactly what I said but got downvoted, must be the wrong kind of negativity, can’t win
  • 1 0
@jimmythehat: I genuinely want to know, I can fix it and I'd do it for free! Haha!

I know what's wrong with it and can sort it out, but the UCI is like a black box
  • 7 0
What at battle at the end of the season. Charre, Melamed, and Rudeau really putting the pressure on the leaders for the overall. Thanks @edspratt for making it better than it's ever been to follow it live.

Great show Jesse!
  • 5 0
@edspratt thanks for all your work presenting these summaries! Stoked for RR after he lost by mechanical last year, would have loved to see that decided by the racers. This being Melamed's first season on a new frame and new suspension, impressive results.
  • 5 0
2023 and the live race updates on the official website are basically Teletext level (apologies for those outside the UK who don't get that reference). With the plethora of live streaming platforms available, I'm still watching a text feed akin to watching the football results circa.1995
  • 9 0
 Go on Jesse!!
  • 7 0
I really wish the overall position only counted fully complete stages, as it is it's mostly useless until the end
  • 3 0
You can select overall after a stage you want, just click on "overall" and select the stage your interested in. Obviously assuming you're taking about the live timing thingy
  • 4 0
I'm curious about the new UCI trophy that was announced. From what I can see, it seems like they spent a truckload of cash to produce one trophy that the winners will have their names on, and will probably sit in Chris Ball's office.

What do the series winners get?

The same embarrassing milk carton as last year?
  • 5 1
 Rainbow stripes ?

 Congrats Richie!

3 Flat Pedal Riders in the TOP5 in womens and men combined is pretty amazing! Booker with a Stage win too!
  • 2 0
It’s a pity that despite the UCI taking control of the event , that the practice of riders “ lapping “ stages hasn’t been eliminated yet !
A lack of start Marshall’s or a preference for certain riders ?
Come on organisers , make it fair for all !
  • 4 0
This sport ain’t dying , as much as discovery try kill. Look how close this racing is after 25 min of downhill !! Good job Richie and Jessie !!! Amazing riding !!!
  • 3 0
Story of the race for me is Kasper Woolley, I can't believe he's come back to that pace so soon and with a relatively new team (for him after missing so much with injury). Bonkers commitment and drive
  • 2 0
I was in Morzine yesterday , wanted to see the pro men on a stage. No one in morzine knew about the time schedule if the race. Finding the time schedule on the site is a struggle. Some things need to be improved , not only coverage is crap. This sport deserves a better support
  • 7 2
Let’s go Richie! Get back in there!

Live timing doesn’t show the overall, if you go on it it’s only for the latest stage so only shows riders who have finished that stage, so in essence it’s completely pointless, who has time to sit there watching every rider come in? I just want to know the current leaderboard is that too much to ask? You could do the overall after any stage last year, who is running this shambles
  • 1 0
It's in the article as a graph...
  • 3 0
@Matturalistic: I want to know about he riders outside the usual top 10
  • 4 0
Man, Izzy and Charre having one for the ages. Glad I can watch this epic title showdown on TV...........
  • 5 0
Yes Morgane! Flat pedals can still win medals!
  • 3 0
When the best way for fans to keep up with the race’s action is a powerpoint slide show, the race format may want some adjustment
  • 1 0
The visualizations here really help see the way the race progressed. A bit of a suggestion for the graphs though: centring them on the mean time and reversing the values might make them better visually reflect racing. This way we would see the leader opening up a big lead as them moving up and further from the mean. Right now it feels a little out of place for riders losing time to be moving up and to the right.
  • 1 0
@edspratt I always enjoy that you bring data and visualization to these articles. It took me a while to figure out how to read the scatter plots (I"m not sure if there is a better name?) and I wonder if you could perhaps make them easier to read if you reversed the y axis so position 1 is at the top and 10 at the bottom. And for the x axis maybe also reverse it so the winner is on the right instead of left and perhaps have "time from the win" on the x axis instead of straight up seconds so it makes more sense why they are in that order.

I don't know what visualization tool you are using. I know this is pretty easy in Tableau and perhaps it could be done with just a few calculations here also?

Again, really appreciate you visualizing each stage.

Yes, Simona, strong finish and great result. Gratulace z Česka.

 Lucas and Dan !
Same time after 24'22"590 of downhill !
Wtf...
  • 3 0
And Rude was 0,08 seconds faster than Lukasick and Booker. Morgane and Isabeu had the exact same time on one stage. Dunno but feels like some glicth in timing.

Emmet Hancock in the top 30, and one stage inside the top 20! Solid results to end the season with for this PBA alumni.

 Richie's overall in trouble?
  • 4 0
It's down from 280 points between him and Jesse to just 59 after stage two.
  • 2 0
@edspratt: Any idea what the (potential) gap is between Richie and Alex?
  • 3 0
@JamesKROZ: The gap is slightly larger at 78 points. It's looking like it will be very close between the three of them.
  • 3 0
Oooh come on RR! Smash it!
  • 1 4
@JamesKROZ: see above, overall of top 15-20 would show this
  • 2 0
@jimmythehat: That wouldn't show this as the question was about the overall series points, not the time gap.
  • 1 0
@edspratt: what was the women's gap? I'm trying to do math but I think Izzy is still leading?
  • 1 0
@Matturalistic: based on the 212-point lead Isabeau had before the race she just needs 329 points today. So far after five stages, she is on track to score at least 439 points (not taking into account any future individual stage points).
  • 1 0
@edspratt: Okay cool. I just started doing the math.

Side question, the stage 5 tie, do they both get 20 for the stage, or does the rider who did the time first take it as a win?
  • 1 0
Talk about close! I want to see one of the graphics when this is done of the men’s overall!
  • 2 0

  • 1 0
So close for Emily Carrick-Anderson. 0.11 seconds off the win.
  • 1 0
That's crazy close after 30min of riding. You might expect that kind of finish in XC type race where you all start together, but when the racers are just racing each other it shows how competitive it is.

  • 1 2
Yeah good question - how did Ratboy do??
  • 2 3
@Paco77: I had to look hard to find it anywhere, but I finally found the results on the UCI site, but it was a cluster f*ck to even find it there. Rat boy got 12th. The E-EDR series is no joke either, they did 10 stages including 2 power, (climbing) stages.
