 When you see a guy wearing absolutely no safety equipment except for some DH gloves, he's either wicked awesome or has no business on a bike.

 @rrolly: Fortunately, I landed in fairly shallow water on both wheels at once, so I didn't put a foot down but managed to pedal to the bank. I told them that any gentleman mtb'er would do the same.

 I think it is great that a lot of the MTB community is very welcoming to beginners, but I think that's a double edge sword. Friday Fails shows so many people without fundamental bike handling skills getting in way over their head and crashing. It is gonna get even worse (or if you are watching Friday Fails, better) with all the covid noobs on the trails now.

I don't mean to say we should be tough on beginners, or that I'm a bike handling god, but we need to drill into beginners heads that mountain biking risk needs to be taken seriously, and that you can get seriously f*cked up if you aren't careful. I love seeing people starting their journey, but for the love of god, your Ibis will not do the job.

 I agree, but I don't think this is a new trend. We were doing the same stupid stuff as kids in the 80's and 90's. It's just that no one was lugging a 20lb VHS camcorder around with them all the time so most of it went unseen.

 The whole "just send it brah" mentality is bad for beginners. I understand pushing yourself and getting over fear, but there is a difference between sending something you are scared of but have the technical abilities to ride and just going for something that you have no business doing.

 I'd much rather people be learning on modern bikes than the shit I learned on in the 90s. that alone is about 4x better safety factor.

 @groghunter: Not sure I agree, I feel like having a bike that had a semi good chance of breaking in half made you evaluate the risks a bit more.

 @VtVolk: scroll down the mtb sites today,its all cool people doing huge jumps and gaps ,making it look easy. In the 90s,no internet,mtb mags featured lycra guys sweating like pigs. People buy cool gear,hit the bike park,no accept of their own limitations, bye bye.

 At 2:25 they rode down, got off their bikes probably talked about filming for a bit, hiked up, did the entire ride in. And somehow through all that time passing no one had the thought to move the bike in the middle of the runout?

 Breaking with your middle finger has nothing to do with it. I brake with my middle finger on the left because I lost the tip of my index finger in a motorcycle accident when I was 14. hasn’t hurt my riding skills. so I would suggest that is pilot skill that caused the crash.
