I was hoping Gwin would win because (of course) I wanna represent, but HOLY f*ck!!! Danny sooo deserved that win. He's laid down such awesome runs this whole season. Amazing talent this kid has. Looks like Clay Porter has a new star to make a movie about, eh? Cheers Danny!

wowly shit never thought video of the day could be a video of someone filming there computer watching biking! aha, great run!!
- + 2
Well, this makes me like him to! that run was amazing and i really think he took advantage of his crazyness when they found out that it was a rainy day. He just didnt care, he just SMASHED IT!!!!!!!
- + 11
For me this was one of, if not the best moments on the history of the Sport. It was an amazing moment and every time i watch it i get butterflys.......it will go down in the history books, and im just so glad he won, he is my favorite rider, he lives near me and rides at some of the places i do....He has shown me that if you have the right attitude and commitment anything can Happen.....WELL DOWN DANNY! Champ of the World!

Best run in the History of DH MTB.
Btw, thanks to Free Caster for trying to charge me $30 to watch a race that 5 minutes later was on SportsNet for free with better quality and coverage.

Haha i know ehrydindirty..i seen people complainin about paying for it an im like uuuh its on tv...so pumped on dannys win,soo fast
- + 2
Did any of you watch this on Cable tv? The announcer on there was going on about the whip at the bottom saying omg did you see that recovery he almost lost it........I so prefer watching these on Freecaster where someone who actually bikes does the announcing.
- + 3
^agree with you there, but for me its not only british, its from the north of england aswell........its kinda wierd having someone who is a local lad being world champ, but im not complaining

- + 5
yeah man, he truly is an assest to his country, its a shame his acheivements arent publicised as heavily as footballers, he deserves to known and deserves all the best in the future!
- + 3
totally agree.......I mean what he had done there will make the history books in the sport, look at other types of cycling, lance armstrong is well known, and as you say, footballers and stuff are publicised, What danny done here some people didnt even think was possible. never mind some F*g kicking a ball aroung, danny is the only one with the balls. I mean he is representing the country for a sport and nothing has been said outside the mountain biking world...needs to change in my opinion
- + 2
this is all true, MTB requires more talent and determination than any other sport in my opinion, just a shame its overlooked by other sports
- + 1
Its just like motorcross and supercross. Both are super popular but just not at the level that football and soccer are. If downhill MTB could get major air play on a real network to show the masses what its all about perhaps who knows the sky would be the limit. I`d love to see downhill at the X-Game. It qualifies as a extreme sport. And you could make man made courses if need be. That would make the sport main stream.
- - 1
i feel ive been misunderstood, iam not commenting of dannys riding how could i? and iam not saying the commentators dont have reason to be that excited in this case i just annoys my how they are like that on every run!
- + 2
Yeah but its Rob Warner and Nigel Page, you clearly don't know who either of them are... Legends of the sport. Now I'm not saying I'm much older at 19, but you're 16, thats probly why you've never heard of them. They're from back in the day. I thought they were a little annoying too until I found out their significance to the sport (now I know why they get so hyped up)
- + 2
i think ive watched this a million times over, and i think PB should have a Video of the year aswell as Picture of the year, because i would certainly vote for this......Its also kinda wierd how i was doing work experience at Foxhead this week, and as i was watching this video, danny hart walked in, which made it even mp0re special
still loving this historic moment

just pasted this video link on to the BBC Sport FB Page, saying you may have missed something at the weekend we have a NEW British World Champion in Downhill Mountain Biking.... Danny Hart.

pirate video getting VOD on pinkbike with the strong posibility of freecaster no longer covering downhill next year that's exactly what we want supported by pinkbike. sort it out pinkbike...

Copyright would have killed the great writers like Shakespeare. Intellectual property law currently is ruining the lives of modern inventors and preventing progress. Great bikes aren't available in the USA because of patents. Some idiot who owns the patent on thermal bread re-freshening is collecting money he didn't earn whenever you buy a toaster.
By showing this pirated video what harm is being done? The broadcasting company is having its clip shown again and again at no personal expense. A great rider is getting exposure. The sponsors of the event and rider are getting more exposure as more people get excited about the race and look up info on it or decide to watch the next one.
People deserve credit and compensation for their work. This video does just that.
kudos pink bike great VOD.

your supposed to have to pay to watch these videos. none of the world champ stuff is free from freecaster. freecaster needed a certain amount of revenue from world champs to justify broadcasting the world cup/world champ next year and they didnt make it to the amount, partly becasue of these videos being uploaded to youtube, pinkbike, etc. all places where viewers arent paying freecaster for there hard work of filming and further more pushing them out of mountain biking
- + 3
on top of that, with the position pinkbike holds in the biking media they aught to know better than to promote this. people will always record events like this and will be available elce where. I wander how brule and co would react if i started flogging knock off pinkbike merchandise through a user in the buy sell pages of this very website. i don't imagine they'd be so receptive to piracy.

What a weekend of biking.
I was one of the few who paid for this. To all the tight asses who have watched Freecaster for free all year and never paid their ÂŁ15. Enjoy watching the 2nd hand replay.
Nothing comes close to watching this live, you had to see every other top rider in the world come down the hill to understand how epic Dannys ride was.
...The juniors had audio only, riling the fans...
...Some boys from a sunny island came down on their XC bikes and dry tyres, dispelling the myth of Champery, until all the big boys made it look soooo hard to go fast on.
...A local boy sat on the hotseat for ages
...Fabien raced for the last time with style
...Hill had the worst hair cut ever
...Ratboys crash was epic
...Some boy on a Giant made it all look to easy, the only rider to take the hard lines
...Gee slid down on his back and went OTB also, not looking comfortable at all
...Greg slid everywhere
...Gwin slid out, getting caught in the netting where Danny was the only one to even try the inside line
Oh, and the commentators somehow did not loose their voices.
My neighbours neighbours neighbour heard the shouting :o)
(The 4x was just as good, if not better than the Dh due to all the crashes, and I normally find 4x boring)

Exactly, without paying to see the whole thing, it's impossible to understand why the commentators are getting so nutz.

sick video but after reading into it, it seems that because its on here for free, and youtube etc it now means that freecaster cant afford to run next year
hope they pull something out the bag....

That sick whip at the end...in the rain...was EFFIN EPIC! Brilliant run, bro! I'm all about Gwinny right now, (obviously) after such a long US drowt. Especially the feel good back story about Tomac and Gwin . But after seeing that Hart burm busting run at Val de Sole, I've been routing for him. Congrats to Dan and Giant bikes.

AWESOME!!!
Congratulations Danny!!!!
But the race of Sam Hill, I think it was more spectacular than this, the track conditions were more difficult, and the rain was much stronger, am I wrong?

Well...Hill's 3rd place effort in '07 just took backstage to this wizardry for sure. Been over a day and I'm STILL trying to fathom what he did to that mountain!

As awesome as the vid is, it is LAME of Pinkbike to promote stolen content as VOD.
You can point out flawed business models as much as you want, but Pinkbike is solely posting this as VOD to draw more views to THEIR website and more ad views/revenue for Pinkbike, etc.
Lame.

Really, I don't think this is drawing any more people to Pinkbike. I would think they posted it because we have all been dying to see this, it was amazing, and it should be free. Freecaster has already said they are not doing coverage again next year so who cares about them anyway. Their video player won't ever even work for me without freezing up anyway.
All of this is just so frustrating anyway. This should have been on network TV. Instead we get football, baseball, etc where every game is basically the same. When will organized team sports just die, and real sports be televised?

I agree, it is frustrating.
But for all its flaws, Freecaster made the commitment and investment to provide coverage of the WC DH. And now PB is piggybacking off Freecaster's investment, flowing Freecaster NO money and selling ad space around Freecaster's content.
The entire border of this page is a paid ad. That is how PB stays in business. I have no problem with that. But when it is wrapped around something that belongs to someone else and used without permission I DO have a problem with it.
It's not a personal thing with PB, it is the idea of selling ad space around content that does not belong to them without their permission.

wtf pinkbike, the fact that you wouldn't delete this video straight away is bad enough, but making it vod is unbelievable. It's just as bad as uploading a segment from a movie.
Raymond Dulieu (founder of freecaster):
How one person can hurt many!!!
"Erwin Ruiz decided that posting Danny Hart's clip on YouTube was a smart move as we still have it as pay per view (at 4,99€ for the replay). As a result many people will not buy the access on Freecaster and our revenues will be impacted. But it gets worst with all MTB sites then embedding the YouTube clips and in effect amplifying the movement. Therefore dear YouTube fans, in the months to come, you more than anyone will know why Freecaster is not longer around."

That's assuming that people would even purchase that content in the first place. I personally would not. It's not the people out there that are the problem, it's your business paradigm. It is no longer feasible to charge for video content in today's media environment.
Don't rake us viewers over the coals, we're trying to save money for bike parts.
- + 0
Exactly. I can' afford to watch ppv crap so I just don't therefore I get no exposure to the sponsors and all that money they spend on their pro riders is wasted. Bike broadcasting should be paid for by the ads just like everything else. Then they don't have to complain when the videos get shown again and again. instead they can be happy.
- + 1
Being raked over the coals for $20 of content. Wow. How much did that last movie+dinner cost you and your girlfriend on your last date? How man thousands of dollars have you spent on your bike and anything related in the last year? If you can't afford $20 to watch WC, then you probably shouldn't be spending that money on a bike...
- - 1
the level of piracy is just proof that they need a better business model to take advantage of revenues to be gained without charging. I honestly would never have seen this video if it hadn't been VOD. I might never see another one. That is probably true for a lot of people. There are not that many people who are interested enough to spend their money so the business model was bad in the first place. Plus freecaster probably would gain more subscribers from this if they didn't have a crappy model from the beginning so they can't weather it since this was also a 2 minute clip that amounts to thousands of hours of free commercial time to those who had never heard of it before such as myself. I didn't say to myself "jee I want to see more of this so i'm going to pirate freecaster from now on". If I had wanted to see more I'd subscribe. In fact, I would already be subscribed.
They are just blaming their failing on piracy because they can. And they should change their name to paycaster anyway.

In case you guys haven't noticed, mountain biking is still a growing sport. There aren't enough people tuning in for ads (in addition to sponsorship from teams, etc) for freecaster to cover their costs. I don't think people realise just how expensive live streaming is, and what a fantastic service they provide. I love freecaster's coverage, it makes my day every time there's a world cup on and it's going to suck not having it around next year. Charging for ONE out of EIGHT streams this year is far from unreasonable, I thought the biking community would have been more supportive... I guess you don't miss things until they're gone.
- + 0
Not enough people care about seeing it live. That might have been the whole problem with the business model. Essentially that is why I is worth it to pay, right? It is sad I agree, but it isn't the same as supporting the lbs. I am happy to buy stif locally if I need it quick or it is a repair I can't afford to do. That is what a local shop offers for a guy like me. Some people take their bike there for anything because it is worth it to them. If there aren't enough people who need that a shop goes under.
In this case most people don't care about what is offered enough to buy it. If live streaming mattered then piracy wouldn't be enough. We'd all subscribe. Maybe they should just make a video site with races and highlights which would be cheaper and the ad revenue would pay for it.

After seeing him slay a local race here early in the season (pre-World Cup), I was definitely curious to see what his season was going to go like. The kid is LOOSE...in a good way. Tore the sh*t out of a pretty greasy track straight to the top-box. Appropriate his season ended the same - 'cept on a wetter and much, much steeper track than I saw him race. Props!!
