Sam, I liked it, you just looked like you were having fun and not caring if you were "shredding" or not. And you showed so much control over the bike, why are people disappointed??? O.o You rock, and some people are definitely too serious. X)
Personally I don't hate the fun or the sense that you're having fun... anyone who does is an idiot.
I didn't like that pinkbike featured it on the front page. I was expecting something really awesome (because that's usually what entails featured edits on this site) only to find out it was more of an advertisement for a bike that I'll never want to buy... although it does look fun to ride. 29ers are tight because of how odd you feel riding them. It's a completely different feel.
Proof that anyone can ride and shred. If youre making the size of your wheels decide that someone is 'gay' cause they ride 29ers, just makes them a judgmental person that is REALLY immature lol Sorry but if youre calling 29ers gay, then youre gay, aka a moron, at least theyre riding bikes still. Isnt that what its about? The love to ride your bike and have your own style whether you shred on a 29er, bmx, 24s... Man I just feel sorry for people who hate for no reason. Id love to jam and shred with anyone who enjoys to ride ANY bike. On the video note, SICK video Sam, looks like you were having fun on your bike, and you KILLED it on a 29er lol well done sir!
All pro edits are advertisements. I don't understand the "outrage" over it. Sam did a great job pushing the bike to its limits by showing of his riding skill and the quality build of the bike.
Although I don't understand the reasoning for the complaints I'm not surprised, this site is full of naysayers , crybabies and, trend whores.
severly disapointed, i really missed the 45 seconds of google putting on and gloves being put on. gutted. Dope edit, sick tricks and banter as usual from pilgrim haha
There appears to be more "outrage" coming from people reacting to simply an honest opinion... look at MickBs post for example. But hey, I guess if you want those positive props, you gotta be overly supportive and you can never think anything is less than "the best thing you've ever seen." The way I figure it, if this was any other rider that wasn't the overall champ for slope, this vid would have gotten no attention at all. Not just any other rider but don't take that part so literally, silly men. (my back is absolutely trashed so I've got nothing better to do but to comment on this vid again, haha )
I'm sure Sam had to give himself a "Pep talk" in front of the mirror before he did this. ........... Sam knows these are Poof Bikes, but he did it for the NS company's sales
"The way I figure it, if this was any other rider that wasn't the overall champ for slope, this vid would have gotten no attention at all" But Sam IS world champ. He rides for NS and is promoting one of their frames. That's why its on the front page.
Its a nice short video. I don't have a problem with people criticizing things if its an original take. But look at the comments "29ers are gay" " this is just an advertisement" "Sam is a hipster" Nothing really insightful there.
But this isn't NS's website so there's really no point to being on the front page. Aside from the backie, the edit was just... meh. It's pinkbike's fault because they raised my expectations too high by always posting awesome shit on their front page... lolz
Its on the front page cause Sam Pilgrim is a famous rider and he came out with a new video. Pinkbike posts videos that riders come out with. Is your position that all other posts on the front page have been "awesome" except this one?
Yeah, pretty much, haha. When I click on a vid that's featured on the front page, I expect to be entertained. This edit made me feel like I wasted 3 minutes watching him do something that any decent trials or DJ rider could do. Am I alone on that or was everyone really impressed by this edit?
I can't say i was blown away. I can say that I was entertained.
Lots of videos make it to the front page. Trail reports, race reports, and contests are all on the front page. I have a hard time believing that you've watched every video posted on the front page and this is the first time you've found yourself "not impressed".
In relation to featured edits of a top mtber ripping around, yes I can say this is the first in a very long time where I didn't care for the content. Usually edits are featured because they're impressive and for me this wasn't at all. All but 30 seconds of it is him cruising around doing 1ft. hops on and off stuff. The "fun" factor isn't something special and unique because everyone has fun riding bikes and you can see that in everyone's edits. We all know how much fun it is to ride a bike. As for trai/race reports, I have no idea why you bothered to point that obvious fact out but oh well. I'm done, haha.
personally, i really love stuff like this. if he wanted to, im sure Pilgrim could hop on a road bike and still make a banger edit; he may not be doing flip whips and 720s, but i bet it'd still be fun as hell to watch. a bike is just a bike, they all have their strengths and weaknesses but its up to the rider to bring it to life with his(or her) imagination and skill
not everything has to be insane DJ aerial acrobatics or physics-defying trials moves, its all about having fun on a bicycle, and it looked like sam was doing just that.
what are you all talking about?? thats not a 29er!! it's ment to be a 28" fixie but these things including a fixed gear set and a gear set with driver. so its ACTUALLY ment to cruise around with or without fixed gear.. but as you all see you can do more with these things as just cruising along
^ this. I had a hard time 'getting' this vid until I read the design philosophy on the NS Bikes site- this bike is meant to be a towney cruiser, but with revised geo for more fun tricking stuff. If you watch all the kids in my town on track bikes, pulling stunts and tricks on their fixies in parking lots- this is the crowd this bike is for.
cameron, dont gooch him, he rode better than you or I ever could on that bike, and twas just to have fun. you dont exactly "shred" www.pinkbike.com/photo/7391283
I-anac the bike is supposed to be a hardcore commuting bike, commencal and charge also do them. They're great for people in cities or towns, I use a singlespeed rigid 29'er cos on my way to work with only a small detour I can hit 2 skateparks and a national bmx track. I can also hit the jump trails, ride on road, off road and up a cycle path if need be
hmm did anyone wake up today thinking it would be neat to see Sam Pilgrim make a street edit on a road bike.... Cuz I didn't.... but the backflip was sick
To everyone describing 29ers and anything else you think is shit as 'gay', stop being so homophobic and exposing yourselves as the ignorant twats that you are. Yes you may think to yourselves 'I'm not being homophobic it's just a phrase' but to kids all over the world being bullied and being hurt each day; men, women, boys and girls, it's offensive and hurtful.
Woah the VOD isn't a dh edit!?!? 29" and 700c are the same thing people. Stop b*tchin about wheel size and go ride on whatever wheel size you have. Sam....keep killing it on every bike you get on
Yeah Chris Akkrig's video was much better. First of all his riding was 100x better. Second of all he didn't pussy out and ride the freewheel, but rocked the fixed hub like you're supposed to on a bike like this
No disrespect to Sam Pilgrim, because he's an amazing rider, but I just know he can do so much better than this, so I expected more and hoped for a better edit...
The analog is a FIXED GEAR bike, designed for a mix of commuting and some tricks (I know, I had one myself). He didn't ride the fixed gear hub like you're supposed to on a fixed gear bike, but 'pussied out' and went for the easy way and rode the freewheel.
IMO that falls into the same category as the wannabe hipsters buying a flashy Create Bikes fixie and ride it with the freewheel and 2 brakes. They only buy it because it's 'hip' and not because they are true cyclists in their hearts. A real fanatic cyclists who has a fixed gear bike will ride it fixed, posers 'pussy out' and ride the freewheel. Not saying that Sam is a poser, because obviously he is not, he's one of the most skilled riders on the world, but he chose to ride this bike the same way as posers do.
All the complaints about the video this is a free website the content is free and if you do not like it and want to complain about it wasting 3 min if your time why waste another 3 minutes complaining about it in the comments section? I don't get it
Bikes are nothing without the people who ride them. Who cares about what YOU like or don't. IF you're hating, get into inline skating or something. If some wacker started bitching about my bike while out for a ride, they would most likely get their jaw rocked. Ride bikes, or go buy a Camaro and stick to that.
www.pinkbike.com/news/Video-How-to-be-a-Mountain-Biker-2013.html It's just step #23. It's hilarious how some of us have so much intolerance and disgust towards certain wheel sizes. This should be funny and laughed about. Hopefully people stop taking it so personally. I may be the one getting my jaw rocked here.
People need to smoke a joint and chill, bikes are cool and riding them even cooler, it really shouldn't matter what you ride or where you ride it, as long as you ride and you're happy then that's all that should matter!
So... some of you are feeling bad for a video nobody is forcing you to see, of a guy riding a bike nobody is forcing you to ride (or buy)?? Pretty moronic...
it is when people feel the need to look cool and run brakeless around town with their fixie.... I worked in a bike shop where someone running brakeless couldn't stop intime and ended up in a coma for a good while, that's no lack of skill, just tough luck.
I agree, the amount of hipsters on their piece of crap create fixies who ride fixed/brakeless for fashion is a joke, I run a front brake on mine for the ability to stop for cars. I am fine riding brakeless but when theres cars and pedestrians its just safer for all parties.
Pretty cool RAW style edit showing some sweet spots to ride in the region... I'm sure that anyone who rides this style bike will be pumped to go out and ride after watching this... I watched Arrival on Thursday and was back to building new lines all thanksgiving break... That's why I watch videos to get pumped on riding.
I mean it was a well done video and all and there's definitely some gnarly stuff, but the fact that it was Sam Pilgrim basically riding street on a road bike made me feel like I was watching an ad for a fixed gear bike company or something...
That looked like so much fun!! I still love hopping on my old gt from like 89 and bombin around. This video made me want to just go ride, and if thats not what its about then the sport is lost.
Haha trust it to be the American and Canadians giving you shit. All of them together still wouldn't make one whole brain cell. Let's see you do a vid on a bmx, will all say your trying to be Harry main then. So funny! Tossers
did you make an account just to post that? If so, take a gander over to the FGFS forum on here, you'll find it comprises many nationalities, Canadian and American included...
Comparing Sam Pilgrim or even ourselves to other riders in pretty self defeating in my opinion. To me this is the essence of urban biking, riding numerous features and picking creatives lines.
he can do that riding on that bike, takes talent for sure. but it's like if I could brush my teeth with a paintbrush...yeah it might be a cool trick but it's nothing to brag about and not too impressive. come on Sam get back on your regular ride and kill it, we love what you do and we can forgive you for this.
29ers are the future of trail bikes for sure, as long as you think 29ers are gay, then you have a gay future while the rest of us are going to enjoy ourselves without sticks up our asses, peace
while i agree that for most people, 29ers are the future for trail bikes, it really depends on rider style. 26 and 650b are pretty much the same thing, and are better suited for some riders (like myself). although, one day when im old and gray, and dont enjoy hucking my meat as much as i do now, ill probably switch to a 29er. but by no means would i ever say 29ers, or any other bike, are gay.
Man! Brazil is the best place in the world to find strong and cheap drugs. Also perfect prostitute womans and the most corrupt cops in the world. I just love Bob Marley and thats why I dont know about acid...
One day I hope to go and see Brazil. Not for the drugs or the prostitutes (we have plenty of those here in Amsterdam ), but I would love to bitchslap a police officer and then give him €20,- to shut up and act like nothing has happened
lol as far as I know the illegal dealers on the streets mainly sell hard drugs, but the 'legal' coffee shops only sell soft drugs like weed. But I don't do drugs so I can't tell from personal experience.
Funny, because this is the level that freestyle fixed gear is at right now: vimeo.com/75746197 Their level is 100x as high as Sam did in this video, and it's even much harder because they ride their bikes with a fixed hub and not a freewheel like Sam did.
Gotta love banter about wheel size on Pinkbike. People get so defensive about it. Ride whaterver you feel mkst comfortable on, or whatever gives you the most enjoyment. Race the funnest, race the fastest
Actualy when you run 23mm wide tyres on 700c wheels, which is a standard width for road bikes and fixed gears, the wheel size is exactly the same as when you ride 26"x2.2" tyres. But the fitting of the tyre is the same size as 29". So if it would have enough clearance you could fit a 29" tyre on a 700c rim.
Whats up with this weird ass tire size 45c? 27.9-inches is not a 29" but it's close to a 650b. All these tire sizes are BS, and i'm way confused. But that video especially with that music were 29" worthy. So sad for the current FMB world champ. So sad.
Because it's neither 29 or 650b, it's 700c.... the universal road wheel size that's been around for ages. It's a roadie/commuter bike so 700c makes perfect sense. The wheel size confusion/hate in these comments is ridiculous.

Sam was that Harwich 'The DUBS' Beacon hill fort in the first section? Used to get my Trials on there back in the day. Nice to see it still standing!
"The way I figure it, if this was any other rider that wasn't the overall champ for slope, this vid would have gotten no attention at all"

Sam, you did a great job - even better that it was a different type of edit and riding style than PB normally hosts. Keep it up mate.

Called Brazilian Acid because it has the same colors as the Brazilian Flag, and it looks like acid.
One day I hope to go and see Brazil. Not for the drugs or the prostitutes (we have plenty of those here in Amsterdam ), but I would love to bitchslap a police officer and then give him €20,- to shut up and act like nothing has happened
50% dirt jumper
30% street, park,
10% freerider,
10% unknow.
Their level is 100x as high as Sam did in this video, and it's even much harder because they ride their bikes with a fixed hub and not a freewheel like Sam did.
nice edit!
Gotta love 29ers, how else do you ger trick 26" wheels at budget prices.
People get so defensive about it.
Ride whaterver you feel mkst comfortable on, or whatever gives you the most enjoyment.
