@Jaydenfarley I had that happen to me in a video before and I was going through the roof about a feature I had helped build. Feels good, dont it?!
  • 13 5
Yea same with me, I was so stoked when Gee used my gap at 2010 Rampage. What a Butte!

Nice, good to see Lopes on a better ride this season.
  • 22 13
Better? Has the Ibis suddenly gone from being the most acclaimed trail bike out there to being out of date and crap? News to me.
  • 29 4
The most acclaimed trail bike? What?
  • 29 1
cazellad- As much as I want to believe you, I cannot trust a man without a country. Jayden, that's a sick jump. Well done!
  • 16 2
Midbestdj, Ibis has an exceptional amount of positive customer reviews and press reviews. I still ride my MojoSL and love it. They are not the "best" bike as there is no such thing. Would the world accept carbon the way it does without Ibis and Lopes videos on A-line?

It is better. Newer geo, updated layups. Just bc someone says something is better doenst imply the other is crap.

Yes someone hit it haha finally now it's our turn @jaydenfarley
  • 6 1
The Ibis Mojo is definitely one of the most acclaimed trail bikes of all time. I dont think I have ever seen a negative review of one. They are an amazing bike and have been for a long time. The shit that is talked on this site is unending...
  • 2 1
I ride up that fire road almost every time I ride. I remember seeing a kid (@Jadenfarley?) digging it last year or the year before. I always wanted to see someone hit it. I will not be hitting it, ever. By the way Lopes, call me next time you're riding my hills.
  • 4 7
After building one up, I wouldn't ride an Ibis Mojo even if it was given to me. I am absolutely serious. Would. Not. Ride. It.

Can you tell the story of brian and the parking slot? i have herd dozens of times of the joke but i dont know why
  • 7 0
Joaquin, there was a website called hbcutthecoursein1990.com, and it threw all sorts of industry stories that no reputable MTB website would dare to print. Many people found it a funny website, which it was. It was like sitting in a bar accompanied by some guy that told hilarious stories, but you had to keep in mind that sometimes the truth shouldn't get in the way of a good story.

One of the major points of the website was telling stories about Brian Lopes and how much of a "douche" they thought he was, and their first proof was a photo of his van parked at Downieville. His van was parked diagonally across two car spots, in a town that, while the Downieville Classic MTB race was happening, had car parking at a premium. Interestingly, Brian wrote a rebuttal on Pinkbike about that photo. He had parked across two spaces so the guy that was shuttling a group of guys to the top of the mountain would have a park when he got back to the hotel, which means that Brian was being considerate to a friend, and not being a douche afterall. Obviously anyone that still brings up Brian's parking habits missed that.
  • 7 1
if u meet him he isnt really a douche....pretty cool guy actually

I wish that web site was still up!

  • 4 0
Kovarik and Lopes together will be something to witness..

Everyone rode an M1 back in the day with their sponsors logo on it. Tomac on Giant anyone? Anybody else out there replace their alter to the Virgin of Guadalupe with an alter to Napalm?
  • 14 2
Lopes is a beast, and he's old enough to be my dad!
  • 35 0
He's old enough to be the younger, faster, more talented brother I never had !!
  • 12 0
that was a pretty sick intro vid to a rider with a new company
  • 10 0
Called it, T275 must be pretty good, Intense restructure/expansion must have cash...all good
  • 4 2
yeah my 1st thought too, when I read he was leaving was Ibis good move, i figured he would because going from a dual link suspension layout to any other just plain sucks, and I've been an Intense rider for years, think their bikes ride beautifully
  • 14 5
No wonder why the Tracer is retailing for $9,999 -- Intense has to recoup all the money they've put into marketing and advertising.
  • 5 0
Right. Because that was a very high $$ video.
  • 1 0
They're also retailing for $6600 and $6000. Don't only use the price of the Factory build, as most manufacturers have a $10k version of their carbon bikes. Looks at almost any S-Works from Specialized, or a Enve build of a Santa Cruz (really, any build with carbon wheels). Their Factory build is in-line pricewise with the other companies out there.
  • 11 3
He must have seen the Kovarik video on Pinkbike and thought that if he switched to Intense he could ride like him.
  • 11 7
As a mountain biker, why am I supposed to care about Brian Lopes?

He gets a ton of PR and the mountain biking media seems to love him, but why should I care about him? Seriously? Am I supposed to be inspired by him? Is he a role model? He's a better rider than me and can rip a bike, but why should I care about him more than Bearclaw, Stevie Smith or Nino Shurter or anyone else that gets paid to ride a bike?
  • 3 1
I get what your asking... Why do we humans idolize humans as if theyre God (some say it is God's talent on loan/expressed).
Like the old volcom slogan, 'tear down your idols!'
Maybe its good to idolize (goal parameters) until you tear em down?
  • 8 1
Where in the video does it say that you have to care more about Lopes than any other rider? I care more about riding than idolizing pro riders...
  • 7 0
I know who cares about those who helped progress this sport. When the next generation of athletes come along we can say the same thing. Why should I be inspired by Bearclaw, Smith, etc. Respect should be given to athletes that have helped progress the sport, including Lopes. But somehow I don't think you would be able to learn the meaning of respect.

flag dirtvert (Mar 25, 2014 at 9:07) (Below Threshold)
You DON'T need to care about him. He's a pretty big douche...
  • 4 0
Its better to be feared than loved. You cannot be both.
  • 1 0
Feared by competitors loved by fans.
  • 8 0
 perfect combination.
  • 4 0
Right on. Hope he makes some podiums this year. Arrogant maybe, but most hyper focused people can be at times. That guy can still crush most riders half (literally) his age
  • 15 12
Actually....you know what the irony of this is now intense has the most loyal and under rated rider in cycling, Kovarik, and the most non loyal and over rated rider in the history of cycling, Lopes. I hole Lopes gets on Kovarik's nerves and Kovarik tunes him up some.
  • 3 0
I would PPV that right now. I do wish I was still flyin in my 40s like Brian instead of floppin.
  • 11 0
Overrated? Are you drunk? He won the World Cup something like 6 times, 4 time world champ. Name anybody else that's done that? The irony appears to be that you don't understand the word overrated
  • 18 0
You call Lopes "the most non-loyal and over rated rider in the history of cycling"?!! You are just throwing away lines based on no facts whatsoever.

Firstly, he was with GT for a million years - and THEY dropped him! He was with Ibis for SEVEN years. Most riders would give their left testicle for sponsorship that lasted seven years, let alone with the same company.

Secondly, over-rated? You have got to be kidding me! He has four rainbow jerseys, has won A-line heaps, won dual slalom at Sea Otter so much he got bored with it, and turned up to the DH World Champs a few years ago and made the top ten on his Mojo, and he's in the BMX Hall of Fame. Today, I can think of only one rider that has podiumed in three different events at the highest level (and with that I mean world class competition), and that would be Graves (BMX, Enduro, DH).

Blah blah blah...who cares. The guy is a massive dickhead and that trumps any thing he has done. Not a good brand ambassador. No one will ever change my mind about that.

One day I will get the story behind this rep that surfaces
  • 2 0
a-r-c., have you actually had some sort of direct negative experience with him, or are you just going by what people say? My own experience was very positive.

I am done with this. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
  • 2 0
Ha, ha. So you haven't met him!
  • 1 0
I'll bet at speed those wrinkles disappear...
  • 1 0
@a-r-c, if you don't have direct experience with him then don't say anything...
  • 1 0
Well, he was involved in the "shuttling"-thingy in drama last year, during EWS in Whistler - but if you call Lopes out you better have something to back it up with, otherwise its unfair against Lopez and you probably wont be taken seriously.
  • 2 0
Met Lopes once back in his GT days and he signed my GT Blue and Gold checkerboard Vans slip-ons. Those were the skeeviest shoes ever, mom wouldn't let them in the mud-room let alone the house, made my day I wore those shoes until they rotted off my feet duct-tape and shoe goo couldn't adhere to the poor things anymore. He may have held his breath but touching those things to sign them showed dedication to his sponsor and fans right there peeps.
  • 1 0
Well, we have some good stories and some bad(?) ones - guess he is just a human like the rest of us, a human with god like bike skills who does not seem to care about getting older and just keeps doing what he loves. If not admirable, at least respectable.
  • 2 0
fullbug: You'd have wrinkles too if you ever went outside and rode your bike. . .

 www.sicklines.com/2014/03/25/brian-lopes-joins-intense-cycles

"When Brian Lopes announced that he and long time partner IBIS cycles would be parting ways many people were curious what his new plans would be. That wait is over.

The new partnership is quite timely as Intense has just released their new Tracer T275 Carbon mountain bike"

The proble with this statement is that Brian Lopes had nothing to do with the development of the Tracer T275. SEED did. Brian is just riding the wave to the bank.
  • 3 0
Can't wait to watch him riding the Tracer 275... Good move Brian, nothing to say about Ibis but Intense is more gravity-oriented. Plus you'll have a nice team mate in Kovarik The Carver Wink

Brian Lopes is used to riding Intenses, just they always had Mongoose stickers on them!
  • 3 2
Lopes is a great rider. Glad he got signed to another company.

I am curious if Intense will let him help design bikes for them, like he did with Lopes Link and the Mojo HD?
  • 1 0
Nice to see So Cal dirt still kicking up this much chatter over a 40 second clip of making one hit look better than your whole year of highlight reels. Brian should be the reason you keep riding. Nice work.
  • 3 2
I'm glad he ended up with Intense. Good for him! Will that make me go out and pickup an Intense Tracer after the horrible user reviews on the Carbine. I think not.
  • 1 0
Pure curiosity, because I haven't seen them... where are the horrible user reviews? I've ridden the C29 multiple times, and have 3 or so riding buddies that have them and love them. Just wondering what the problem with them is.
