Preview & Race Day 1 - Andes Pacifico 2018

Andes Pacfico 2018

More than a race, Andes Pacífico is a project that evolves every year. The goal is to discover, develop, and refine a pristine network of trails that cross Chile from east to west, which means that each new edition of the event brings a selection of new tracks mixed with the best places discovered in previous years. There is definitely plenty for racers to discover in 2018, in what will be the 5th edition of the race.

• 5 days of enduro style stage racing
• 6 nights camping accommodation
• Full medical support and medical field tent by Paris Dakar support crew
• All catering and hydration: breakfast, lunch, arrival picnicking and gastronomic dinners

From the infamous #antigrip dust at high altitudes, through the green wine producing valleys of the central region, to the incredible views of the South Pacific coast, there is no lack of diversity of terrain and landscapes in this intense enduro week that will remain forever in every rider's memory.

This is all the proof I need. Bryce got dropped by fox if I remember correctly, and he's using a new 36. He must have bought it so it must be the best fork!

@jaame: Your logic needs more logic
  • 20 0
@jaame: you sure about that?? He's definitely not on Fox Head anymore for gear/clothing/protection as he signed with Royal several weeks back. I hadn't heard anything about being dropped by Fox Shox though. My guess is that he's still with them since I don't see anything SRAM on that bike.

If people keep down voting me for honest mistakes I'm going to flipper my lid

@jaame: best way to stop getting down voted is to stop posting dumb comments, even if they where mistakes.

@Santamtnbiker: It's were not where. Your grammar is terrible and you got +8. My grammar is impeccable and I got -19. Jeez what's happening to the younger generation? I give up!
  • 3 2
@jaame: Do you need grammar while riding? But yes I probrably should pay more attention during English.

the hardest part of this event is starting the race and then getting drunk AF and starting the next day again with a huge hangover, the most skilled guy in alcohol and hangovers is the winner for sure

you can have a few beers and some wine without getting mortal. cant be easy sleeping in them little tents, id definitely want a few scoops to help me nod off...

That looks awesome. So by "blind", it means that you don't get any pre-ride on the stage before timed runs?
  • 12 1
That is the proper meaning of the term riding/racing blind
  • 3 0
Also means they don’t reveal the course in advance. At least that’s the approach that they take for Trans-Cascadia so far.
  • 14 1
it means they ride blindfolded. duh.

Ratboy on a Hightower LT (not a Nomad). Excuse me, but I keep being interested if the pros ride the Enduro bikes of their brand or if they go one "lower" towards the trail/all mountaint category. Same with Rocky Mountain for example.

I "down-sized" from a Capra to a Yeti SB 5.5 (and maybe down-size the DH bike to a Nomad4 or a Transition Patrol).
  • 2 0
I think that you ride better on the bije you get to ride the most, and that makes you feel more confortable than picking "x" bike 'cause THAT one is the proper rig for this bla bla bla..if not on the HT LT he might be on a 5010..
  • 2 0
it was the enduro racers that asked for the HT LT in the first place .. demo'd one last year and its an awesome ride for sure

High levels of skill need less travel to cover there mistakes.

I find it crazy the lack of coverage for Pedro Burns. The kid is like 19 years old, beating some huge names in the sport, and he only got one photo and tiny caption, where as the others had 2+ pics and way more attention drawn towards them. The f*cking subtitle before opening the article read: "Jesse Melamed, Josh Bryceland, Iago Garay - a crew of familiar faces are in Chile for the fifth edition of the Andes Pacifico." NO MENTION of Pedro........ I just find it weird

Serious question though, do the racers drink beer afterwards?

Easy fella... WiFi is non existent in rural campsites in the Andes, and right now I have a single bar of 3g to work with. That's not enough to transfer large data files that make up these reports (and let's not forget the 10 hour days on a bike that happen before a single photo gets edited or a word written). A recap of days 2 and 3 is all set to go and will hopefully be up tomorrow when we move to a camp near civilization again. Also expect a recap of days 4 and 5 the day after things wrap up (Sunday or Monday)

@davetrumpore: keep up the good work and drink a beer or two .... nowadays everything has to be up right now :-) ....even from the end of the world
