Video Nominees

It's amazing to go back through a years worth of videos and rewatch all the fantastic content that has come out. We're lucky that our sport is littered with unbelievably creative people who can produce video projects like the ones listed below. We raise our hats to all of the nominees, thank you for contributing to the sport and keeping the stoke high.

Here are our nominees for Video of the Year.

Georgia Astle in "Flip The Switch"

Why it's nominated

There are a lot of elements that make up a great mountain bike video. The storyline, riding, and cinematics are a few key ingredients that when done well can make a video truly unique. With "Flip The Switch", Georgia Astle and Scott Secco nailed these key elements and the result is a piece that's captivating from start to finish. Hats off to this hard-hitting duo.

Paul Couderc in "My War III"

Why it's nominated

Anytime Paul Couderc puts out a video part, you are pretty much guaranteed to have your mind blown. Well, "My War III" is no exception. Clean AF riding, dramatic filming, and a dynamic tempo make this video hit extra hard. Not to mention the ending clip is one of the biggest mic drops we've seen in a long time.

Thomas Genon in "Above"

Why it's nominated
Tommy G's riding style is always a breath of fresh air. Whenever you turn on one of his videos, the tension in your shoulders seems to be released as you slip into a zen state. "Above" follows suit and is chock full of styling riding and smooth filming.

Brendan Howey in "HWY 30"

Why it's nominated
It never ceases to amaze us how smooth Howey is on a bike. He's always a favourite to watch and, with an all-star film crew, "HWY 30" is a true master class in how to produce a mountain bike video.

Caleb Holonko in "In The Know"

Why it's nominated
Based just down the road from us in North Vancouver, Caleb Holonko is a true hometown hero. He is one of those riders that always seems to change your perspective of what is possible on a bike. For those of you who don't know Caleb, his "In The Know" video project will bring you up to speed pretty damn quick.

Brandon Semenuk in "Fools Gold"

Why it's nominated
Brandon Semenuk, Isaac Wallen and crew put together something special here. The attention to detail in the filming, riding that makes you shake your head, and video flow make for another home run project for this all-star team.

Clemens Kaudela in "The Minister"

Why it's nominated

"The Minister" feels like a Utah segment out of New World Disorder, but with a modern twist. After watching this video, it's no wonder that Clemens got the Rampage invite this year.

Hayden Zablotny in "My Way"

Why it's nominated

You would have been forgiven if you hadn't heard of Hayden Zablotny up until recently. Over the last few years he has quietly been making a name for himself in the freeride scene, but "My Way" was his breakout performance. We know we will be seeing lots more of Hayden over the coming years and can't wait to watch his career unfold.

Tom Walker in "3 Year's Later: Tommo's Story"

Why it's nominated

Tommo went viral a few years ago for unfortunate reasons. While attempting the iconic train gap near Whistler, Tommo came up short and suffered a massive crash which left him hospitalized for 6 weeks. "3 Year's Later" follows Tommo's inspiring journey through his recovery of mind and body.

Kilian Bron in "Fuego"

Why it's nominated
Nat Geo meets shreddit. What's not to love?

Cam Zink in "Washed Up"

Why it's nominated

Cam Zink brings freeriding to Hawaii. He also goes surfing on a bike so that's pretty cool.

Lucy Van Eesteren in "Luce Operations: Vol 1"

Why it's nominated
Lucy Van Eesteren is another freerider that we can expect to see a lot more from in the coming years. Lucy comes out swinging in this one.

Peter Jamison in "Utah Is MTB Paradise | Sessions EP. 1"

Why it's nominated

It has been exciting to watch Peter Jamison navigate the early stages of his career. Sessions EP.1 is a testament to his riding, laidback attitude and his eye for cinematics.

Fabio Wibmer in "Urban Freeride Lives Chile"

Why it's nominated

Fabio Wibmer is back with another Urban Freerider and somehow this one is even better than the last.

"Roadkills" by Ride Or Die

Why it's nominated
These days, long-form content releases are few and far between. The Ride Or Die crew delivers big time with Roadkills. Sit back, relax and watch some of the best riders to their thing.

Finely Davies in "Kids Are Coming"

Why it's nominated

Every now and then, you come across someone whose aura oozes mountain bike culture - someone who is as dedicated to building as they are riding. Finely Davies is one of those people and when you find out he's only 14 years old, your mind might short circuit a little bit. The future of our sport is in good hands with riders like Finely around.

Kade Edwards in "Lyrics 003"

Why it's nominated

Not much more to say other than Kade Edwards is sick. Hands down one of the funnest people to watch ride a bike.

Gee Atherton in "The Ridgeline IV: The Dolomites"

Why it's nominated
A cinematic marvel, Ridgeline IV is like nothing we've ever seen before.

Brandon Semenuk in "Balancing Act"

Why it's nominated
Brandon is living proof that staying focused and dedicated to your passions can yield unbelievable results. "Balancing Act" follows him as he navigates a complicated week of attempting to win the American Rally Championship and Red Bull Rampage.

Dylan Stark in "Stark For Rampage"

Why it's nominated

Dylan Stark has got to be one of the most versatile freeriders of all time. Whether it's BMX, DJ, and big bike, he can ride it all.

Kilian Bron in "Cross Countries"

Why it's nominated

Kilian Bron and team go all out in this one. From Arizona deserts to the PNW forests to the street of NYC, they cover it all.

 “When does the trend end?”
  • 10 0
100% agree. Should definitively be in the list above.
  • 4 0
Yup! For sure it deserves to be appreciated!
  • 13 4
Shush dude it’s totally not core to talk about such core activity on pinkbike. everyone will watch it and it’ll no longer be core.

shooting against a trend while not only being part of it but being at the front of it? exactly my cup of humor. clickbait marketing at it's best!
edit was great tough, guess this is trendy now.
  • 7 0
100% agree, probably the sickest edit I’ve ever seen.
  • 8 3
No more need to be added, but nominee list should be much shorter imo.
  • 1 0
 Definitely should’ve been up there
  • 3 0
There is no better mtb film than "where does the trend end" since "ride to the hills"! It´s already legendary and doesn´t need a voting
  • 34 2
Lost in Chile - Andreu Lacondeguy was just stunning. Very surprised it's not on the list.

 that!
  • 5 0
I was hoping to see that up here too. One of the videos that stood out to me this year.
  • 4 0
Thought it would have been up there.
  • 6 1
Came here to say this! UPVOTE
  • 18 0
Bring back full length films to MTB for the sake of this sports soul. I appreciate the athletes are adapting to current trends and have to make a living, but shreddits are never the same quality as real films.
  • 6 0
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we had more full length movies this year than during peak NWD era. They've just been more grassroots from channels like 50to01, ride or die, atmospheric river rats, in the hills gang, and tons of others I can't think of. Definitely I feel like there has been a comeback lately on crews that have notoriety to put real heart into a project. And all of it is free to stream on YT too
  • 17 2
I’m curious how a video like Attainment with over 50,000 views and nothing but great feedback doesn’t get nominated and a video that has 6,000 views and lacklustre comments does get nominated. I feel like it should be up to the PB viewer to choose the nominees?
  • 12 1
I'm pretty glad that it's not a "views" contest to be honest.

I mean, even videos like "In the Know" only have 100K views, which everyone in the Sea to Sky was talking about all spring. Luce Operators was also pretty sweet edit and it has 11K views.
  • 9 0
I’m also disappointed to not see Kaos Seagraves Unhinged II on the list, but maybe that’s just me
  • 12 2
 - When Does The Trend End -
  • 12 3
 Atmospheric river rats 2!
  • 3 1
This more than any other video made me want to ride my bike.
  • 5 0
Liam Baylis in "777" by Ride or Die. Soundtrack is sick, riding is incredible and it has this vibe I think we don't see in the other videos especially surrounding the editing, music choice and Liam's personal style. At least I liked it.
  • 2 0
Out of every video that dropped this year - 777 had me coming back day after day, week after week. Definitely a departure from the typical formula for mtb vids, but really some of the best work. Hunter Paull put in some serious work this year between that and when does the trend end, both of those would be at the top for me.
  • 12 2
 Ride or Die forever
  • 8 0
Riding crews and racing teams need to put together full length films instead of releasing single rider edits
  • 5 0
Thank you. I respect the athletes and their dedication but I almost never watch shreddits. The editing, soundtrack and overall vibe can never match the full length films. Films are good for the sport.
  • 12 2
 BRAGE GOT ROBBED!!!
  • 3 1
Again! Thankfully he just released a sick new video.
  • 7 1
Scott Secco sure can put a film together. Outrageous locations for Flip the Switch. Would love to hear a behind the scenes where in B.C. they traveled those 14 days.
  • 2 0
@fiftypercentsure thanks for watching! We filmed in Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Kamloops, and Invermere for 14 days over the course of six months. Georgia was super dedicated to the project!

Since I'm waiting for it to stop raining so I can go street riding, I took the trouble to graph the number of votes vs the log of the number of Instagram followers of each rider. Data was captured at 11am Pacific Standard Time on December 28. I combined the votes for the Semenuk and Bron videos and I graphed log(followers) because Wibmer has five times more followers than anyone else. In the absence of being able to post the chart here, I can report that there isn't much correlation; a linear fit to the data gives an R^2 value of 0.1024. As you can see from the table, Holonko, Zablotny and Van Eesteren all have good efficiency in term of votes/follower, and Genon and Zink have the opposite. Now, as I was looking up each rider to get the follower count, only Atherton was actively soliciting votes and given the low overall vote totals compared to his 650,000 odd followers, you could see this as a perturbing factor, but other than that, it doesn't look like much of a popularity contest. I appreciate this is a very dubious bit of data analysis but there you go.

How did Nothings for Free not make this list?
  • 4 0
Roadkills is there clear winner here. With an average run time of 4 minutes the rest are just edits. I miss the old days where you would get excited and sit down for a new movie and it would last more than a few minutes.
  • 9 2
 2023 Into the gnar movie
  • 5 0
I haven't got time to watch all those. Can we do Insta post of the year instead please?
  • 3 0
 How about in text form?
  • 9 3
 Atmospheric River Rats 2.0?!
  • 3 1
I was going to suggest this.
  • 8 1
 Let’s go Lucy!!
  • 4 2
"Flip the Switch" is cinematic royalty, "Ridgeline" made me break out in a sweat. How do you choose amongst all these great video's. Tricks, bike control, mind control, astonishing bike handling, beauty?? This I know...all these people are amazing athletes. Maybe there can't be just one "best video of the year". Maybe it needs to be more granular...like with sub-categories. Don't know...glad I'm not having to choose.
  • 7 1
 No Atmospheric River Rats???
  • 5 0
Stoked The Ridgeline IV is nominated! Do you guys want to see more short epic stuff or prefer longer form pieces?
  • 1 0
more long form pieces would be excellent
  • 1 0
Personally I love to see the whole set up. The scouting of the location, modifications made to the line, planning the shoot is all of interest. Nice one Gee! Keep safe.
  • 2 0
Edit: This lin-log plot actually requires an exponential fit, assuming in a proper popularity contest that a constant percentage of each rider's followers voted for them. If you do that with synthetic data, eg assuming that (for Gee's 244votes/599000 followers) 0.4% of each rider's followers voted, then you get an equation of the form y=Aexp(Bx) with R^2=1. Doing that to our data above however, still gives R^2=0.1 so it's still not a popularity contest.

 Lost in Chile…

 777. Best of all time

Exciting to see the nominees for Video of the Year! Each video showcases unique aspects of biking culture and skill. When watching, consider not just the technical biking feats but also the storytelling, cinematography, and locations. These elements combined make these videos memorable and impactful. It's a great way to get inspired, learn new techniques, and appreciate the diverse world of biking. Kudos to all the nominees for pushing the boundaries of biking videography
  • 5 1
The Minister was one of my favorite videos this year and possibly ever. I hope it wins.
  • 3 0
If PB users nominated and voted on “________ “ of the year then it would be for the people by the people. Yikes! It’s not like we use or watch this stuff.
  • 5 1
I love Gee but Kilian Bron's videos are always a full cinematic experience.
  • 2 1
Indeed... but the cinematic experience is also present in some other jewels. Kilian's videos are just such an amount of work and... cinematography. Kilian is definitely a film maker, he does this as a full time job, and it's kind of unique.
  • 2 1
I'll agree that Kilian's videos are visually stunning. Probably some of the most stunning motion images in the sport so far. They're also just staged shots with no story, nothing compelling besides being a compilation of incredible imagery. Maximized views and virality, zero substance. Tom Walker's story nearly brought me to tears, it depicts the reality of our sport, not how it looks on Instagram. My vote goes there.
  • 4 1
So free ride then, what about some race stuff like The Pilot? or Shredits from Sleeper Co, if I want scenery I’ll just watch National Geographic,…….. Don’t shoot!
  • 1 0
Right? Sleeper Co making us world-class cinematic films with genuine storytelling only to be snubbed here. These edits are sick, but where's the substance?
  • 3 1
Steve Vanderhoek’s Ready or Not was my favorite this year, that being said, lots of sick videos here, “In the Know” was absolutely one of the best of the year to me.
  • 2 0
 Thank you so much!
  • 3 0
Once again, Andreu was robbed. His video in Chile should at least have been nominated.
  • 3 0
Watch Roadkills or watch it again. Sooooo good.
  • 5 2
Rheeder's Evergreen deserves to be on this list.
  • 4 1
I vote for Dylan Sheffer - Attainment
  • 2 1
They may not be crazy shredits but balancing act and roadkills are some amazing longer form edits to come out this year.
  • 3 0
 WHEN DOES THE TREND END

“Sound of Speed” … or was that from 2022?
