This weekend was the official opening of the Inglewood Pumptrack that is located in Edward Vincent Jr. Park. The park is 55 acres and has been a central hub for the community and surrounding cities with playgrounds, picnic areas, a pool, as well as a place to go for sports facilities. Now, they can add one more to the list of athletic facility offerings. The pumptrack area is located between the skatepark and tennis courts. There are actually two tracks, the smaller Woodlands track, and the World Championship track.

This whole project was thanks to the work of Grow Cycling and its founder, Eliot Jackson. As a former World Cup DH racer, he wanted to bring the value of cycling to the community. The idea and vision were set into motion in 2020, and even with all of the restrictions and hurdles, it is impressive to see it complete. The city of Inglewood its Parks and Recreation are all about community and building a better quality of life for its residents. The amount of support was impressive, and it's no wonder so much was accomplished in such a short amount of time.

SO stoked to see this come to fruition. Really proud of this community for helping make it happen. Great work @EliotJackson!

This is awesome! Does anyone know what something like this would cost to build? I realize location may play a part, but just in a proximate price.

@PHX77: about 1.2 million was raised, according to Inglewood City documents, by GROW to pay for the project.

@Grimes1405: I bet a million of that went to the bureaucracy and 200k is what it actually cost to build.

@Dustfarter: That’s about right. I’d read some previous figures on what Velo Solutions builds asphalt pump tracks for and I don’t recall them being anywhere near a million. Could be wrong and I’d love to know the actual figures for just the buildout, not bribing city council people to approve it.

@gnarlysipes: there’s also signage, landscaping, lighting, bathroom construction, etc, all at prevailing wages

I think the one in Paris, TX was close to 4M with 1M dedicated to just the landscaping, irrigation, and drainage.

@PHX77: Imba trail solutions (HISSSS I know!)
has an awesome book entitled "bike parks" that outlines what it takes to get something like this built from understanding users, land management, team, stakeholders etc. Basically everything but the actual design

Does your van cake bake video still exist? I can’t find it. I had a sudden urge to watch it.

Good on the Jacksons. The very first pump track in Los Angeles - wow; who'd have thought?. My little town of pop.120,000 has several..

There are a few others in the greater LA area but they're not technically in LA proper. What is awesome about this one is its location.

Doing better than up here in Auckland. The pump track in front of my kids school is only good for RC cars.

What's not to love about this? So awesome.

Never had a need but always wanted a jump/pump bike. Being relatively close to this place, I will be shopping for one now.

It’s seriously great for fitness and just super fun. Totally more fun than going to the gym.

@bikebike69: It's amazing how tiring a pump track can be.

Is there a better ambassador for our sport than Eliot Jackson? Super positive attitude, very smart, well spoken, and a bad ass on a bike...

Also, glad to see Anthony Freeman getting some love there.. He's is from Inglewood and has put a lot of work into trying to get more inner city kids into bikes. Plus, he has many of the same attributes I said about Eliot..

Good job!

Eliots writing (in this case his IG post) is always so well crafted and articulate. Gets me a little choked up, and for good reason. Nice work grow cycling!!

In deprived areas, the biggest barrier to entry is often the bike; kids simply can't afford them or, if they get a bike, struggle to keep it going when it breaks. I hope this track sprouts up a community that can help get the hardware to the kids through some kind of freecycle / community bike shop - there's so many unloved bikes out there just waiting to pair up with a kid looking to shred.

Feels like this is just the start! Awesome effort!

This is super rad and if I lived near there as a kid I never would have left. Also I want a "re-elect Butts" sign for my lawn.

Butts is huge for Inglewood. So yeah, give the man 4 more years!

Nicely done EJ!! I see a lot of smiles there and I can feel the stoke. This is an awesome setup for the community and hopefully spurs a lot of good riders and smiles. That track looks so nice too.. enjoy and congratulations on a job well done.
