Aug 26, 2021
by James Smurthwaite
From Rampage to racing and even for UFC fighters, you can always rely on YT Industries for a sweet custom paint job. Today, the YT Mob has unveiled its 2021 World Champs bikes and while the colour schemes aren't quite as loud as some you'll see on the hillside this weekend but they look great nevertheless. Here are the YT Tues bikes of Dakotah Norton, Dave Trummer, Oisin O'Callaghan and Guy Johnston.

Boring? The best looking by far..
  • 13 1
Certainly didn't require a teaser vid and dedicated press release.
  • 11 1
 ...sometimes boring works.
  • 13 1
Agreed. I actually like the paint jobs a lot for a regular bike. But for a custom paint jobs for worlds, that had their own teaser video, this falls massively short.

 Hi, Guy.

I'll take one. The Norton and Johnston versions look great IMO.

Call me old fashioned but should the custom paint not reflect the represented country ? ( at least in some way)
  • 43 2
All their budget went on the Goat video can't be having 4 different paint jobs
  • 2 0
@mattgeraghty3: Those are actually four different paint jobs, aren't they?
  • 2 4
why should they? Have you seen any of the other paint jobs this year? None of them incorporate the riders country very much.. From what I've seen so far most companies are going for a more conservative approach this year. I think these are very elegant looking paint jobs, I like them!
  • 1 0
Agreed! Feels like most companies/riders have gone a different direction this year and just made custom rides rather than anything national for worlds. Would be curious to hear why this is…

actually she is on a roadtrip through italy at the moment.

And we only got 4, the ladies got 50.

I can almost smell the private equity in these extremely-bland bikes.
  • 1 0
We can all see it through an Equity Lens while giving agency to those experiencing bikelessness.

Color scheme "most boring industrial ruins in the middle of nowhere in eastern germany"
  • 2 0
lol. they do remind me of the East Germany in the movie "Top Secret".
  • 13 1
The colors of private equity money.... inexpensive "sorta custom" designs, fully approved by a non-mtb riding focus group. Still love me some YT though, own 4 of them.

straight good paintjob that fit very well to the frame shape, but yes, kind of boring..., especially just playing with more or less same colors for all bikes. They form the company to 'state of time' conform uniform type,so this paintjob and colors does fit... Rock'n Roll and unique times are over for YT. Very sad...
  • 2 1
Yep... So much melancholy thinking about Gwin's Captain america themed Tues from a few years back. That one was shouting Rock'n Roll !
  • 3 2
@gui21st: Rock and Roll is as dead as that 'patriotic' U.S.A. BS. Welcome to the future - it's Aaron Grim

 Meh

Is it weird if I think these are sick and totally worth a custom paint job? Maybe I just have a totally different aesthetic preference than the rest of PB, but I love these fwiw.
  • 2 0
I actually think they're pretty slick. They're subtle but I personally don't like flashy, over-the-top graphics. I like that they stuck with a simple color palette and did a variation for each rider. I'd love to be able to order one of these.
  • 3 0
I feel like these are really cool colorways if it was a standard, purchasable option. But not that cool as a custom worlds bike.
  • 2 0
These are definitely good looking paint jobs, but very neutral. For a custom world champs bike, it could have been more bold, outstanding and personalized like they did for previous world cups and rampage events.

Once @DoubleCrownAddict is finished serving his suspended account he's going to have a field day with this article. What a goofball
  • 3 0
Do the riders keep these bikes or how does it work?
  • 3 0
Yes, we provide these bikes each year as an extra bonus for the riders, to remember their World's experience
  • 2 0
These are dogshit. Same creative powerhouse that produced the new capra shred which also looks like dogshit....

Classic YT article. So much hate but still the most comments of any of the worlds bikes articles so far.. I guess that's what you call polarizing

 Nicest bikes at this race

I must admit I didn't know the mob was still a thing. They used to produce some great worldcup edits when gwin was with them. Guess they no longer do.

Custom painted? Im sure they are but why bother if they look mostly like run of the mill production frames?
