We used to have a lot more trails like these that were legal to ride, (in Montana), but we keep getting banned. Thanks for nothing USFS, MWA, Yellowstone coalition...just to name a few of the anti-mountain bike organizations we are battling very unsuccessfully.
It certainly isn't the only reason, but skidding through every corner like the guy in the video only gives those organizations more excuses to close trails. I don't understand the trend to throw up dirt every time you turn - skilled riders can carve turns.
@snowFFFFFF: You need to watch that video again, this guy is not skidding,in none of the turns is the back wheel llocked up.You need to get a grip, people like to ride and they like to ride fast. No one wants to watch someone crawl round a corner. Merry christmas!
@lochsweed: Just semantics. If not skidding, then sliding. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, but anything that tears up the trail surface of a multi-use trail gives these organizations all they need to close it to mountain bikers. If you are riding in a bike park, or on a bike-only trail, fine. But if you are in the National Forest, or any other public place, you are doing a disservice to me and other mountain bikers by tearing up the trail and giving people a reason to blame mountain bikers for erosion, trail damage, etc...
@bartmoore: @Murbahman: you both need to grow up, when mtb will be made illegal like all fun things in our lives then it would be to late, probably you hadn't been talking with law enforcement about that you are just riding your bike and didn't meant nothing wrong, when they don't even try to listen and still fining you with a nice amoutn of money... I like drifting skidding and doing all the crazy shit I grow up riding in the streets banging with pegs but anyway I had enough brains to understand, if they want they will take my freedom. You can be as badass rebel as you want, but there is no use of that when you are behind bars...
@snowFFFFFF: FWIW, this trail is also open to moto traffic. All the switchbacks are beat to hell. I don't think the featured rider did much to deteriorate existing trail conditions...
@yeticycles I've ridden the Curly Lake Highline trail (a few miles NW of Branham lakes) and I've since wanted to explore more trails in the Tobacco Roots. Could you name some of the trails ridden on the trip and in the video?
My buddy got married in Pony. I wanted to ride the Curly Lake loop but didn't have time/ended up partying way too much. Heard its one of the most scenic trails in MT. If you have a chance go ride Alpine 7 - Napa to Wire in the Swan. It's also unbelievably scenic. Love Montucky!
I wanna ride freshly mulched new trails and drink beers in places that should take at least a Camelbak to get to with Joey. But only if that f-ing eagle of his goes too.
Sorry Joey, but no eagles....no props from this point forward. You did this to yourself when you broke the Internet that fateful fay.
Neat video.
Music is way, way over dramatic. It's a guy riding a bike, let's not get too serious. Not like they are curing cancer. Well, maybe preventing it by keeping active...
I always look forward to Yeti videos and stories. Admitting I never cared to check if all the videos are filmed and/or edited by the same person(s) but they all do have this distinctive flow and character that I really really like and make it stand out from all the vast media creations popping up these days. So I am left anticipating your next adventures and let me tell you I would surely not skip right to the video and photos but also read all the written story if you care to write some more text. Keep up the good work!
I have a question, (totally unrelated to video) how many people ride with their left foot forward and right foot back on the pedals compared to the other way around? I feel uncomfortable when my right crank is more forward than the left for some reason.
Both. I was stuck to one position (right foot back) for the first four years of riding. The opposite felt weird. A coach convinced me to put time into learning to switch feet in corners and it has made a world of difference. It felt really weird for a while and took several months of deliberate thought before it became natural but it has had a big positive impact on my riding and especially my ability to corner.
@corvus1: that's true, if I have time I do that. Also drop the outside foot on flat to off-camber corners. Sometimes the corners come too fast to adjust feet though.
@Spoof: right handed, left foot forward. Barspin clockwise. Originally wanted to spin 180s/360s counter clockwise but had to force myself to learn the other way. left handed corners feel more natural. Hold a hockey stick on the left side, bat on the right. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule for anything like that, although certainly some trends are more prominent than others.
It's good for your riding to switch it up though. A good drill is to find a pump track, and ride one direction with the left foot forward, then the right, then switch directions and repeat. Try some technical descents with your "bad" foot forward. Also try learning to bunnyhop and manual with your bad foot forward (it's harder than you'd think, imo)
That is one of, if not the best looking Yetis I've seen in a long while. I prefer the look of that back end compared to older models, just saying. Lovely bike, and great vid.
was going so well then i seen the clip on pedals and thought GAY BOY, now all thats missing is lycra jumpsuit, pina coladas all round and the pet shop boys
@rideonjon: duman is clearly a GAY BOY like I mentioned above. Probably sat there pinata colad in hand trying to get over George Michael's passing away wearing his spandex
@rideonjon: d-man is clearly a GAY BOY like I mentioned above. Probably sat there pina colada in hand trying to get over George Michael's passing away wearing his spandex (corrected version)
@rideonjon: i see you're still as classy as ever. Where was I whining? More like calling out redeck teenagers who think they are bad asses behind keyboards like yourself. Keep being a sheep and follow the herd. Easy to hate, but it takes a leader to stand up to punks like your self.
@sellcrackcocainetofundhobby: oh now you hurt my feelings....I'm guessing you have been picked on your entire life and need to be a tough guy on the internet?
@d-man: you clearly don't have a sense of humour looking at your pic your no spring chicken and clearly jealous of us youth with opinions and ultimately.....a sense of humour! something your lacking bro. Don't stereotype me and call me a redneck teenager I'm nearly 30 and was merely saying in jest "clip on pedals are gay" this was said tongue in cheek and backed up with the pina colada and pet shop boys comment to re-emphasise the comment was a joke ie: not to be taken seriously. My advice, lighten up pal were all mountain bikers and share a common passion no matter what age gap so you keep riding chin up and don't be so easily offended.
@sellcrackcocainetofundhobby: there is no humor in using the term gay boy in a derogatory sense. I find it offensive and there is no place for it in society. I have no jealously for anyone, I live my life and have high morals which will not allow me to sit back a let people act like jackasses. Ride jon has stated before he will not allow his child to veiw this site and i am guessing it is because of statements like yours but yet he doesn't have the stones to stand up to it. I have friends who are gay, are great people and do not need to be put down like there is something wrong with the way they are.
@d-man: I'm sorry for upsetting you and your gay friends for my comment. It's my british sense of humour which can be a bit harsh. I will lower my tone on the pink bike forums purely for the reason you mentioned, kids view this site which I forgot (not ride Jon's obviously though) Having kids myself I understand. I will leave this with have a happy new year and keep riding!

Seems to matter less for mountain biking than for board sports.
