Chris Akrigg: The Guide Raw - Video

Aug 2, 2017 at 11:58
by Pinkbike Staff

We gave Chris Akrigg our all new adventure bike, the 2018 Guide, to take out for a spin and this is what he said: “This is the most fun I've had on a bike for ages! It's super quick on roads and gravel but strong enough to take on some pretty serious lines, plus it has somewhere to put your beers! Cheers.”

Watch this with headphones on.

A suspenion fork doesn`t belong on cyclocross bikes...
  • + 8
@trevor-attridge: It does if you ride like Chris!
  • + 4
@trevor-attridge: Not sure about cyclocross but this looks to be a gravel grinder, similar to the Cannondale Slate which won the Dirty Kanza race.

Crush core advanced testing in progress

That moment when you expect him to nose plant or whatever that white stone - and he just passes it!

 finally...the king is back

I think he shredded that bike harder than the bikes in Road Bike Party. He was sprinting the whole time! Dude is a powerhouse

 Shredding uphill in style!

Super sick riding for sure, but is anyone else wondering why he wouldn't just ride a trail bike?
  • + 25
@RRMonster: because mongoose told him to ride their new adventure bike? And Mr Akrigg can do that on the new mongoose adventure bike making mortals want same but mortals will only end up with the bike and still suck at riding. Either way mongoose sells new adventure bikes.
  • + 2
@RRMonster: what fun would be in that? he can ride a bike better then most , if not all on pinkbike ....
  • + 10
@RRMonster: because he's Chris akrigg and doesn't give a f*ck about industry disciplines

Everytime... Every efin' time I watch a Chris Akrigg video I wanna grab my bike and go out and play like a little kid. It's happened again, and I just came back from a ride. Always an inspiration - thanks!

God, these videos make me miss that lust I had for Mongoose Pro in the 90's.

New PB article? 'Brands we miss'?
  • + 4
I will never forget my purple and chrome 1994 Expert Pro. My first quality bike.
  • + 8
I love the fact that there was no music. Just sounds of a bike on different surfaces. Too bad my wife had to fucking ruin it by sitting down beside me on the couch to watch some stupid political video on her phone. Heading to the beer fridge now.
  • + 9
Akrigg is so creative with his lines, you just have to sit back and watch where he goes! Glad he's back!
  • + 8
In case you were worried your bike was holding you back, it's clearly all about skill...
  • + 5
I'm having a laugh watching this right after reading all the comments made on the Onza tire review. Youll spin out on 2.4 ardent, you'll tear a hole in this or that, no traction on tech climbs. Minion 2.5 front and rear or your wasting time..then Akrigg comes along and makes all quiet. I'm a bigger fan with each installment Chris!

 Still one of my favorites.

A hill in Spain is pretty rockin' too.
  • + 4
Dayyum, it was a while since his last edit, I didn't remember it was that fun to watch his genius skills !
Where is this place btw? these xc trails look awesome
  • + 8
That is the isle of Arran in Scotland. You can bet it was midgey when he filmed this.
  • + 1
 @andydmorris: thanks
  • + 2
I'm not hating on this bike, nor do I know the exact geo numbers for it but...

While watching Chris do amazing things, I kept thinking that, minus the drop bars and (what looks like) semi-slicks, this bike has to be a similar experience to riding a XC hardtail from maybe 5-10 years ago. Steep geo, fork with moderate travel, skinny tires, etc.

Probably an over simplification, but it's just what I kept thinking. I also know nothing about cyclecross bikes or gravel grinders so there's that too.
  • + 1
I was thinking the same thing. So this is an XC bike with drop bars?

I was going to do the same thing with my old 2002 Stumpy hard tail, then I thought, "What's the point in having drop bars?"

Doesn't take away from the riding, though. Brilliant as ever.
  • + 3
I wanna try that with my Domane 5.9. Fuck I will put it in the hospital. NAH!! Must be a cyclocross bike I imagine. Great stuff!
  • + 4
That had to be the most shaken up beer I have ever seen besides this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=25SPhNpWIhk

A BIKE AD WITH NO ACRONYMS? EGREGIOUS!

Such a beast. Amazing that a few years ago Chris was kicking it on fixies doing stunts. Doesn't matter the type of bike, he creates powerful trials moves work exceptional well.
  • + 4
I now want this weird hybrid road xc fusion Akriggmobile
  • + 4
Arran is epic to ride! Akrigg is boss!
  • + 3
Sixteen seconds in and I'm already calling bull to the sound of his freewheel clicking as he pedals past.
  • + 3
Great vid and mad skills! I love the raw sound too, soundtrack needed. Just him shredding and his natural surroundings.
  • + 3
He's damn good ! What ever he rides ..
  • + 1
shit...I still saying to my customers that they should buy mtb bike for riding terrain...Now I know they should buy road bike to shred the mountains! Thank You Akrig!
  • + 4
 Never, ever disappoints!
  • + 2
I kinda want the bike now. And the skills. And the life. Might as well throw in the sausages and beer too...
  • + 1
I have two out of the five. No prizes for guessing which two though.
  • + 2
If I had scenery like this I would be willing to ride any setup just to get outside
  • + 0
Having just built a new wheel for my mtb I thought the senseless wheel cruelty was painful to watch. The drop bars looked so uncomfortable - I'm in the trailbike camp. And jeese, didn't bring nearly enough calories.
  • + 1
"plus it has somewhere to put your beers!"

I definitely need more courage to ride like Chris does, but I'm not sure if liquid courage is the right answer...
  • + 2
"Why are my hands so numb?"
  • + 1
Talk about posterior chain power...ffffuuuuuuugggghhhhiiiinnnnggggg stremf!!!
  • + 2
Happened to have Vivaldi on Pandora while I watched this. And it was good.
  • + 2

Was wondering what was in the bag on the frame, carrying beer, good lad!!!
  • + 1
This is ridiculous, he is putting us all to shame Smile

He gots skills to pay the bills!

It's the Indian, not the arrow... awesome
  • + 1
 Nuts, anyone else going 'goo on son' on those loose climbs?;
  • + 1
That may have been the best end to any video I have seen to date...CHEERS
  • + 1
....that rear rim...Chris have mercy !
  • + 1
...and this is NOT an ebike !
  • + 1
Just imagine what he could do on an E-BIKE!!!!! Can't wait...
  • + 1
 This is pure awesome! cheers!
  • + 1
2:40. That's my next tire/rim combo right there.
  • + 1

Enduro is dead - long live Rennduro (this is only funny when you are german speaking..or not..i think it is)
  • + 1
 uuuuuhhhhh...mad skills....
  • + 1
Damn!! Chris you're really such a beast everytime you do this!
  • + 1
Why does this make me want a Mongoose??
  • + 1
I had a couple of their BMX bikes back in the day. Then more recently had a Khyber Elite. They really were on the right track with that bike. Too bad their owners sucks!
  • + 1
I wish Mongoose actually sold the bike spec'd like that.
  • + 1
Kind of like ice skates on a basketball court though?
  • + 1
 Yes
  • + 1
 Harsh...
  • + 1
 Absolute beast!
  • + 1
 Dam that was cool!
  • + 0
Road bikes aren't as fun and playful as Mountain ...... never mind.
  • + 0
The only bike that orange fork looks decent on.
  • - 1
 That fork has zero travel
