Dustin Gilding - The Revealing :: PT.1
Weather, Injuries and related problems lead to the delay of a video of Dustin for the past year. This year Dustin and I set a mission to created a 2 part web series, "The Revealing". I traveled to Dustin's for a weekend to shoot this video and everything went as planned, exceeding our expectations.

I was like woah this is a cool edit, then bam! Manual through those whoops!
Such a sick video, VOD!

what an idiot, no knee pads kinda ruined the video for me but the track looked like unreal fun
- + 23
hes not an idiot, he just knows the track that well that its very unlikely that he'll crash and hes quite good on a bike aswell

- + 13
oh, oh , oh I so want to ride there, that was such an awesome video, the riding was tops, the trail was obviously sent by Fedex directly from heaven and the editing, filming and music were perfect, SICK video, thanks for posting
- + 4
That was just soooooo good, stoked it is the weekend and sunny for the first time in forever over here :o)

So what is the next step NO HELMET ? Quote "Weather, Injuries and related problems lead to the delay of a video of Dustin for the past year."..... I read the vid description and the first thing i noticed was 0 protection !!! Cmon the clip is awesome the riding is awesome but what about being awesome smart as well ?

...here's another pad-less superhero! What's up j3434? You don't like it when somebody writes the truth?
- + 5
I guess at 26 yo some people are still stuck at puberty. What can i say. That was just a good laugh at such a dumb comment from j3434

I don't think my decision to not wear knee pads has anything to do with you. I can't believe people get so offended over nothing
- + 10
Ya seriously. There would have been just as much hate mail if he wore full armor body suit. It's simple, you want to pad up, pad up. If not, don't. I hate how cliquey the mtb scene is. The wicked shredding in this vid should have been what stood out, not whether he had knee pads or not. Ridiculous.
- + 2
No kneepads but her rips harder than you!
i don't see the problem, kneepads woulda gotten in the way of those cracked whips ya dig?

dustins too steezy to need knee pads.
but seriously shut up about it, how bout you stop worrying about his "protection" and focus on the riding itself

Dustin, obviously a gnarly two wheeler. really enjoyed the video.
However, I dont think the objection to not wear pads goes unwarranted. Of course to each his own, but I see the problem lying in the fact that many young minds are watching, and that's not your fault, But people of your skill are able to influence young riders. Its important to realize the wearing protection is a solid concept for riders coming of age.
At least he was wearing a helmet. Its crazy how many bmxicans wear none.
- + 0
How did it ruin it for you? That's like saying, "I didn't like his shirt and helmet, the video is therefor ruined."
Sooooper sick video, by the way.

really, a wheelie through a whoop section on a bike?! that is ridiculously awesome!!
it's called the TR250 for a reason

Dustin put so many man hours into this and built the sickest trail just so he could enjoy riding it and he was nice enough to let you pink bike users get a glimpse of it and all you can do is talk crap about him not wearing knee pads? It's his choice and it's doesn't affect you. Dustins an incredible builder and all you can do is bitch about knee pads. Get a life and go dig
- + 9
I've watched this over and over, can't get enough. The riding, building, filming, music choice are incredible, feels like watching a movie segment not just an edit, amazing job guys. Can't wait to see the next one.
- + 7
Why is it that nobody gives a shit that MX and Enduro motorcycle riders don't wear knee and elbow protection, yet it's the end of the world if a guy on a bicycle doesn't pad up from head to toe?
I'll tell you why... marketing... you've been brainwashed. Congratulations.
Your ability to think for yourself and make your own decisions has been co-opted in the name of profits.
Dustin... so sick! Keep on shredding with confidence.

People ride in knee protection only when they do pictures or movies because it looks pro but normally no one ride in it because it is too hot.
- - 2
I ride. Ten years later I'd like to still ride my bike, so... i see - you don't, and all yours "no one" too.

Knee protection is needed when you ride rocky trails in mountains.
On chill trails and jumps like this it isn’t needed.
Almost no one in my city ride in knee protection because it really isn’t needed when you fly some jumps or ride some trails without rocks a specially when the weather is very hot.
We take knee protection when we go to mountains or do pictures or sometimes when some one must taste some new big gap.
And it is nothing stupid because the best protection are good skills, cold blood, creative thinking and common sense.
As you can see dude from this vid is very good rider and he think so too...

Knee pads sometimes are needed but not everywhere but I've never seen any pro DH or FR rider in body armor.
Body armor is the worse thing ever made and I never will be ride in it.
Dudes who think that armor is super needed and that FR/DH is super extreme sport has more pics how they stand with bike than how they ride on it.

Little late to the party here but, I do agree with the post about influencing young minds, somewhat, if you're old enough to be surfing the web watching pinkbike videos then you're old enough to make your own decision on what protection to wear or not wear. Hes not here to be a role model. Dope trails, but nothing too crazy or technical, no roots or rocks etc just some nice flow trail on some nice soft dirt. If this is in his backyard he is probably extremely confident on it, and rightly so. Get off his back.
Killer building and killer skills and killer steeze. Props all round Dustin

Ok Bogu... can you please type me down a couple of real extreme sports?
the following is the most stupid thing I've ever read on this forum "Dudes who think that armor is super needed and that FR/DH is super extreme sport has more pics how they stand with bike than how they ride on it."
And for everybody else: this "pads are for pussies" thing is so f*cking stupid, you are the real posers...

But when you have crash with speed like that you can't get hurt or somethin, you can only lose pieco of skin or something.
DH / FR is really chill sport.
These are real extreme sport's :

And DH/FR in compare with this is like footbal in compare with DH/FR

Ok, so you can confirm me that riding at an average of 60 km/h in places with fixed and sometimes spiky obstacles is safe and no protection is needed? Try to ask it to this guy here:
www.pinkbike.com/video/253561
he could be answering you either with is normal mouth, or with his brand new knee-mouth... that could look like this:
www.pinkbike.com/photo/7687801
...oh sorry, I forgot that it's just a piece of skin for you Iron men isn't it?
and also, look at that video again: it's a typical backyard super-easy and well known situation, it's all soft grass, no rocks, a couple of soft mushrooms and JUST ONE TREE, sometimes it's enough

That’s what I am talking about.
Even when you will hit the tree with speed like that you will survive without serious injuries like this dude from this vid.
In DH or FR you can broke hand or something sometimes but then you will have to do one week break with riding and after week you can get back to ride.
I ride about 4 years and I didn’t broke almost anything except ribs and wrists.
but when you have only one bone broken you can ride with plaster after about one week.
these are my crashes and each time I was alright www.pinkbike.com/video/235982
Extreme sports are extreme when many people dieing while this sport.
How many people died in DH or FR? 5 or 10? And how many people rides in DH/FR?
But for example in TT crash usually mean that you are dead or you have broken so much bones that you have to do one or two years break with riding.
Not many people rides in TT and many of them died.
If you want to check what does it mean real crash check this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y07yt87lhEA
I know that people love to talk and think that they are extreme riders but in fact we all are pussies and DH/FR isn’t dangerous sport but gives a lot of fun.
This is queen of extreme sports: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWwfcdRH30Q

Hey man I'm 38... do you really think I've never heard about the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy?
Here's what I think about that: I f*cking hate motorcyclists racing in the streets or in mountain roads and stuff like that, I've seen tons of them going as crazy as they could and crashing in the same roads we use to shuttle back to te top of our FR-trails... I had to dodge them several times to avoid accidents and wait for them to be rescued after crashes, with the road blocked...
Well, that f*cking TT "race" is a consecration of that kind of insane riding and I think that it's not an extreme sport, I just think it's a worthless and useless re-union of superhero wannabes... I have no f*ckin' respect for them.
So, your first example of extreme sport was not very good to me...
I really don't know why I keep on talking to somebody for whom a sport is extreme only if there's a lot of people dying...
you really don't deserve another word, I'll keep on riding with all the pads I need you'll keep on riding naked or as you prefer, but do me a favor: stop playin' yourself

JuVerre is fersure some 13y/o troll because surley no 38 y/o man could be that backwards, honestly it took you 38years to have that poor of an opinion, you, as well as body armour are setting a bad example for youth
- + 1
Wait wait wait!
...what? I'm not sure I got you Enduro
Do you mean I'm setting a bad example for youth 'cause I advice them to ride with pads?

People who ride in TT aren’t crazy, they just went on higher level.
It is the same like someone would told you that that you are crazy idiot because you ride DH and that you should ride XC because it is much better.
Live has better taste when you can lost it.
I don’t know how about you but when I have hard crash or I fly big gap first time without armor or protection I start thinking that while my life I was learn so long so many things, parents were pushing money and time to take care about my future and in one moment everything can gone.
Then I know how much I want life.
That’s awesome feeling especially after crash when you are alright, then I am super happy even when my bike is completely destroyed and not all bones are straight.
then even problems aren’t important.
That’s why I love to ride without armor.
but crashes in DH aren’t very dangerous.
Just imagine what feel people in TT.
They aren’t crazy, they have real personality and true feelings and they need to feed these feelings.
These people feel that they are alive and that they want live and they feel this live in 100% not like we.
For sure even not tasty food is tasty after something like that.
Also they must feel huge satisfaction and self-esteem
That’s why people who have fun with extreme sports aren’t so vulnerable on problems alcohol, drugs or any pathology.

Juvere, use that 38 years of life experience and get it through your thick fucking skull that people are entitled to their own opinion, just as you are. You having an Internet battle over what protection to wear is shadowing any credibility you might have had. The TT is the culmination of years of tradition, and the riders racing in it are FIM World Championship professional racers, no different than an urban downhill race. The riders you speak of in your area are the idiots, not the TT racers. Shut that big anus on your face and save us the headache.

Csermonet: wow! You instead are showing a lot of respect for other people's opinions!
So here's my shit again for you toilet heads,
the people here come up with this kind of statements:
"people on here are such losers!!! nut up, body armor is lame, not cool"
"no knee pads like a boss!"
"Body armor is the worse thing ever made and I never will be ride in it.
Dudes who think that armor is super needed and that FR/DH is super extreme sport has more pics how they stand with bike than how they ride on it."
My opinion is that this kind of statements is just offensive and stupid, and they're often made by people that just wanna show how cool they are and stuff...
your first reply is an opinion and I have nothing to say about that, it could be summed up to: "everybody rides with the protections he feels confindent to ride with" and it's different from sayin' that people riding with pads are posers or loosers.
I'm havin' no battle here, I'm typin' on a keyboard... I have no headache also, maybe my bullshitproof helmet works ;-)

Knee pads not everywhere are needed.
Body armor sucks and ride is awesome without it.
Body armor is acceptable only in TT.
Body armor protect from stripping not breaking bones thats why it isn't needed in DH but needed in TT.
And it is too hot in this shit

It looks super stupid like astronaut costume or something
