I think this video is insane just because of the tech. ability of that rider. I don't think you guys understand how insanely steep that is, haha. I'm not thinking about skiing down rocky hiking trails like some of you fellas are...
Oh and the riding is def. isn't for everyone so I can understand people not appreciating fully this vid.
hm... can't there be a vid where some ripper gets on his bike as a way to shuttle himself up with the skis or snowboard? How about Seth Morrison, skis on his back, rolling up on a 29er?
Robnickels - there is a great video with Johannes, where you can see him riding uphill. Trial skills + muscle power = if you think it is clips you need to ride up fast - think twice...
Nice logic I will try to adapt it - next time I will be riding on the pavement I will dismount - as pavements are for walking. I hope there is enough grass surface between my home and woods, otherwise either car with a rack or push the bike on pavement!
i forgot my comment was for you waki, and you dont get much snow in poland.
ok, I'm bored so I explain.... luckily where I am from, we would not take the skiis out for even twice as much snow as that.... and we are picky, so I'd even not take the skiis out unless its powder :-) so ok, re apply your logic :-)
Awesome video. Let's not forget guys, he's got to get all the way up there before even starting this ride. Looks gnarly steep. Anyone know what country this took place? Love that mountain biking is the universal language that brings us all to Pinkbike.
This trail would suck on skis and really not much faster. Old school tech riding and in snow. Look at the old Kranked videos with Simmons, Tippie, Schley and Dangerous Dan. Not much different in the steep mud. The guy's riding skills are great. I can appreciate how hard it is to ride in control like this. Thumps up if he had fun!
I gotta agree... If I want to ride something that steep and snowy, it sure as hell ain't gonna be on my bike.. On my skis is a different story. But yea... downhill trial biking doesn't seem like that much of a fun time to me.
This is a guy doing some really crazy descents in Alps. He is one of a very few who can do that, a very exclusive club called vertriders. I can only assume that this is his way of having fun and at the same time practising before the season. If he can do that on snow, it is going to be way easier on super steep lime rock slab, ending with 1000ft chasm.
I recommend you to see a ski movie with the same title called "Steep" - you could get an idea what this guy here is about. And I assure you there are way more fun looking things to do on skis than what those guys do. Yet... it is them being the ultimate bad asses...
i'm from vienna/austria. this trail is in the "hohe wand" massive, which is maybe 60km off vienna. the surrounding is absolutely flat. not much of a "typical" alpine area there. you have a 250m high wall that has a lenght of maybe 5km. there are hundreds or maybe thousands of climbing routes in the wall i used to rock climb there for years. the iron thing in the beginning of the video is called "sky walk" which is a visitor plannform where no-sport people can look down and watch the ground, wall and climbers. the top of the wall is a hughe grass and wood plateau. from bottom to top you can ride on a road made of asphalt. so you don't need a gondola or ride a difficult way up.
the trail itself is usually used by feed and pretty steep in most sections. personally, i've never seen someone riding down there on a bike. no question, it's a difficult, technical track and for me it wouldn't be fun to ride down there (and i'm not a very good mtb rider), but everyone as he/she prefers... it definititly does not make any sense to go down there by ski. the altitude of the top is maybe at 800m and in that part of the country you won't find metres of snow.
Cool riding. These kind of paths in the alps are extremely steep, thight, lots of roots and the cliff drops off vertically several hundred feet. Already challenging on a dry summerday, winter`s madness.
That's why it's called steep. Maybe the vid does not show just how steep it really is. No matter what vids you see of really steep stuff they don't look that bad but I'm shore it's a difrant story when your there doing it . Then add snow ice in the mix
I beg to differ. I likes the video, personally because the balance of that rider is amazing. If you could do that, I highly doubt that you would think it is lame...
I can do that, and any half decent rider should be able to ride anything at that crawling pace. Not to say he's not an excellent technical rider, his side hops and tight maneuvering are legit, but its not fun to watch, and I'm honestly not impressed.
If you are not impressed then why did you watch it? haha. Most people would struggle to walk some of those trails in the snow, I think it was worth watching. Makes me want to practice my bike skills though because I wouldn't attempt that, I'd walk it personally
100% agree look at the snow if you crash Evan a small crash over the bars is so so easy to do you would have no idear if there was a sharp rock just 2 cm under the snow u just don't see it .
" skiing may be the bee's knees, true. but snowboarding is the kittie's titties "
haha that was funny :-)
but come on, who's talking skiing when there is no snow in that video... or better said, just a dusting of snow.... its why he rode the bike, eh. :-p
i forgot my comment was for you waki, and you dont get much snow in poland.
