The riders are set, the course is being constructed and tickets will soon be available to witness the pinnacle of freeride mountain biking as Red Bull Rampage gets set to take stage in Virgin, Utah. After a thrilling contest at Red Bull Joyride, the final list of riders has been selected to participate, and on September 1st a lucky 1,800 spectators will get the opportunity to stamp their ticket to witness in person the throwdown in picturesque desert of Utah taking place October 5-7, 2012.
There will be a deep list of riders hailing from 10 nations, from veterans who have rode every Red Bull Rampage like Mike Kinrade and Robbie Bourdon, to new phenoms like Anthony Messere who at 16 will be the youngest rider in the field, and heavy hitters like Brandon Semenuk who at the ripe old age of 21 already has a Red Bull Rampage title under his belt. Three riders are coming to Red Bull Rampage with an additional goal in mind – to be crowned FMB World Tour Champion 2012. Semenuk, Martin Soderstrom and Thomas Genon all have the chance to take home the title at this year’s final event of the FMB World Tour in Utah – but with Semenuk's points advantage if he stands anywhere on the podium he will be crowned champion. Soderstrom and Genon need to bring their A-game to the Utah desert if they want to defeat the defending champion. Red Bull Rampage is guaranteed to be filled with suspense as fans get to watch the world’s best riders battle it out on this unique course.
On September 1st, fans can visit
www.redbullusa.com/rampage to purchase their ticket from Event Brite. The tickets will be $15 and includes both competition days (October 5th qualifier and October 7th finals). For those not able to make it to Utah, there are several ways to catch the event while keeping your shoes clean. A live webcast will capture all the action on October 7th at www.redbullusa.com/rampage. Fans can also gather the family around the couch and tune into the TV broadcast on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series. The event will air on Saturday, December 8th from 2 to 4pm. The Red Bull Signature Series is made up of 35 hours of one-of-a-kind programming on NBC and NBC Sports all year long. Claiming that WC riders are better at handling "sketchy stuff" than freeriders is insanely stupid, completely baseless and completely subjective.
anyhow who gives a flying f*ck about props xD
Comparing jumps on a WC track to a line in the Rampage is again, about as silly as comparing who can ride sketchier stuff.
Yeah doesnt that tell you something? Romaniuk tried it and failed, Gee realised the run in wasnt right and changed it then landed it fine?
I was at the Chatel Mountainstyle, watching the sketchiest part of the course (this horrible drop to really steep rock section) and nico vink (a WC rider) went down it twice as fast as any of the pro freeriders (aggasiz sorge ect). Im not being subjective at all, I just dont think WC riders are given the credit they deserve.
Chris Akrigg?! Best idea I've heard yet. He would fine some insane billy goat lines. Maybe next year when he's all healed up
Yeah your right someone has to guinea pig the gap first.
About it being nothing like rampage, Nick Simcik who rides for transition, said that Chatel is more gnarly that rampage. Yeah i didnt believe it either at first, but if you actually see chatel first hand you'll realise how harsh it is, its way steeper and rocky than it looks on photos/videos. It was built by the same guy who built champery which is the most tech world cup track there is.
You really had to see it to believe it, Nico vink literally went so much faster than anybody else.
Sure pro freeriders hit big gaps and do tricks, I'm not doubting their ability there. Im just saying, I think WC riders could ride way more technical stuff that any freerider, they race technical courses week in week out where as freeriders occasionly get filmed riding technical stuff. There mostly competing in DJ contests all year.
When I was referring to Chatel being gnarlier, I meant it is rougher and more harsh to crash on than Utah (typically). Rampage has steep techy chutes like Chatel, but Rampage has a bit better traction. Chatel is loose and very different. I feel more out of my element at Chatel than I do riding in Utah. A lot of guys felt weird riding a contest with big jumps with mud tires on. This year, Chatel was sloppy muddy, Rampage can't be ridden when its super wet like Chatel was as your tires just clog up and stop you. Rampage is higher speed and bigger jumps. Chatel is rougher as well because riders don't build their own lines. Its very different. Yes it is hard to compare the two. They are both extremely gnarly in their own way. Keep in mind, Zink and Strait both raced world cups. If they were not focusing on the slopestyle/big mountain side of things, they could compete at world cups. Vanderham raced some world cups 2 years ago, Shandro used to race world cups, Prochazka raced world cups, and hell, almost every rider in this event can/does race PRO DH a time or two a year. Hell, Brandon could race World Cups if he so chose. Racing and freeriding both have different skill sets and focuses. Both sides of the sport have amazingly talented riders in it. As we saw at the last Rampage, a racer can do well and a freerider can do well.
To address the Pilgrim haters. Sam can freaking ride a bike! He will certainly be able to ride the stuff at Rampage. The organizers of this event make sure each rider knows what they are in for and we all do. I am excited to see how Sam approaches the contest, but the dude has bike skills, not just tricks. Utah is no joke, but neither is Chatel and Sam always seems to do quite well there and rides a smaller bike than the rest of us did.
fingers Xed for Pilgrim though
++ oh and please edit: Mick Hannah is from AUSTRALIA not AUSTALIA
No-name bike sponsor....have you seen his new signature bike? Farking sik!
Take a look on this...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDmBe_21cJ4
It's a whole different ballgame than these manicured slopestyle comps... this shit is no joke!
Everyone should have to qualify. It is utter & complete non-sense that one rider doesn't, but others do. Brandon Semenuk is a winning machine but he royally botched this years Joyride & he also blew a winning run on the last hit in another year with a crash on a backflip of all things.
Where the f*ck is Mike Montgomery!!!!
BTW, here are som of the shots I took in 2010
erwinr.pinkbike.com/album/Red-Bull-Rampage-2010
Then there's Alex Pro, who didn't act much like anything but a professional a*shole when he participated in a BC riot. I'm not gonna go into why I don't think he should be allowed to compete, I'll chalk it up to my opinion & leave it there, but pre-qualified? WTF?
gb deffo need more riders like

and the khs bike imo not so serious!
