Loves back wheel. Partial to a bit of front wheel, too

Press Release: Formula

Formula is excited to announce that World Champion, World Cup winner, some-time Enduro-racer and full-time fun-haver Josh ‘Ratboy’ Bryceland will be riding their suspension and brakes.

After trying a set of Formula brakes on an e-moto bike, Josh slid into our DMs to ask if he could try our mountain bike suspension and brakes. How could we say no?

We sent Josh a Nero dual-crown fork, Mod coil shock and set of Cura 4 brakes and, Josh being Josh, he decided to test the components at the most demanding race in the world: Red Bull Hardline.

Josh came away from the event seriously impressed with how the components performed and we were just as impressed with Josh’s attitude. After further testing with the Selva single-crown fork and Cura brakes we had an espresso or two and decided to make things a little more official.

bigquotesWe’re really happy to have Josh on Formula. Not just because he’s a supremely talented rider and one of the legends of the sport but because he’s a great person to work with. There are always plenty of laughs when Josh is around. We love the way he throws himself into new experiences with enthusiasm - from racing events like Hardline to discovering the joys of fatherhood he always gives it his all. His next challenge is to become fluent in Italian hand gestures.Sim Mainey, Formula communications manager

bigquotesI’ve always had the best products. Or at least I thought I did. Having tried the Formula products I’m now positive I’ve got the best suspension and brakes out there - they’re even better than pistachio gelato and that’s saying something.Josh Bryceland, mountain bike legend

Josh will be using the full range of Formula suspension and braking products and is already testing some soon-to-be-announced products. More on those soon but in the meantime keep an eye on Formula and Josh’s social media:

I miss this guy. I know he is still riding, but it's not the same. Wish he stepped back into the spotlight.

Have you heard of 50 to 0? he's constantly putting out badass content and looks like he's having more fun now.

Formula stuff is good though. The brakes are mint and I'm keen to try the Mod shock.
  • 3 0
The Mod really is an excellent shock: very supple, loads of support and it holds a greasy, rooty off-camber very well.
If anyone can put its massive bottom out bumper to the test it's Josh.

I run full formula suspension and brakes, think its great kit.

Love my Cura 2s. For all round riding they are a joy and have required almost zero maintenance.
  • 3 0
@carlitouk: I ride regular single pot curas and LOVE them.
  • 3 0
I'm running a Mod on a V1 Druid. It is buttery smooth and the Selva R is the real deal.
  • 3 0
Cura brakes are the best I’ve ever used in nearly thirty years of riding.
  • 2 0
@deiru: Selva R is just amazing. Coming from Lyrik and earlier Yari, I couldn't believe the smoothness of this fork.

We need more of this guy! he was the first to retire from competition at a young age just for the fun of it.... is a reference for many things.

We all need a bit more Ratboy in our lives.

I'm really keen to buy some Cura's but my 10 year old R0's just won't die

 Good to hear!

@rideformula: The silver looks absolutely ravishing. I would also love to try them out to replace a set of TRP Slate Evos
  • 3 0
Same. My R0's will be 10 in Feb and are still going strong, and an older set of The Ones are still cutting it on my daughters Ragley Bigwig. Great brakes.

I feel honoured that Josh is following my example and now uses Formula components.

Cool, always thought Formula deserves more attention. And that jump between the trees looks amazing (and scary).
  • 3 0
Can confirm, it's amazing and scary in equal measure.

He's had enough of the rat race.

Great, used to ride Formula brakes for years, had them on all my bikes, especiall THE ONE, had been great, but then somehow changed / mixed it up: Hope, Magura & Trickstuff.
But WTF does that mean: "Formula Cura 4 brakes with two-piece levers", are there one piece or three piece levers, ... don't get the point, here?
I mean the Magura MT7s I am running with HC1 levers might be 3-piece, or what is meant here?
  • 4 0
They have the standard one piece lever blades and a optional two piece lever upgrade with Bite point / leverage adjustment can't remember exactly.
  • 10 0
It's basically a short hand way of saying 'our top-of-the-range brake lever with tool free reach adjust and feeling control system'. If we had to type that every time our braking fingers would get tired quick. But, maybe we need to come up with a snappier name. Suggestions welcome!
  • 4 0
@rideformula: I just bought a set of Curas and it confused me too. Maybe "dual adjust lever" would be more to the point
  • 1 0
@rideformula: Also, is it possible to just buy the knobs from you guys and install them on the regular lever? I know the shape it a bit different... just a thought. Your brakes are really good value for money but the "two piece lever" is a big jump in price.
  • 1 0
@rideformula: thanks, got it, now. And agree with @swenzowski
  • 2 0
 @swenzowski: Unfortunately not.
  • 4 0
Congrats Formula for such a good and impressive rider.
  • 3 0
I guess he was running Sram brake before?
  • 3 0
 I'm a Formula man too
  • 1 0
I thought he signed with them a while ago? He seemed to be running this stuff for most of this season.
  • 4 0
Josh was testing the gear but hadn't signed anything. We've just made it all a bit more official.
  • 2 0
@rideformula: can I test a Mod shock and I'll tell everyone how good it is? Prices have shot up in the UK
  • 1 0
Was he not sponsored by them before? He's been on them for a while I think.

Question is "Could Josh be sign to do something he doesn't want to do in exchange for money ?" And we all know the answer already.

So why not sign Josh for fun, he's good at it !
