The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup XC season kicks off this weekend in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Andrew Neethling and Nino Schurter hit the cross-country course together while talking about what motivates Nino to keep competing each year.
We spotted a mountain bike-specific version of SRAM's wireless 12-speed drivetrain
yesterday, and in this video, Nino's POV camera also gives us a look at the SRAM wireless shifter on the right side of his handlebar. If you pause the video, you'll see that it's still a trigger-style clicker, not the compact ring-style system that some of us expected to see SRAM go with. Instead, it appears to employ a single paddle that can be reached from either side of the grip, thereby allowing Nino it use both his thumb and pointer finger to move the wireless derailleur.
