Now Closed: Put Your EWS Racing Knowledge to Good Use in Round 1 of Enduro Fantasy Trivia

Jul 2, 2020
by Pinkbike Staff

While the Enduro World Series are on pause and the world's top enduro racers stuck at home waiting for the series to get back underway, we've been glued to athletes' social feeds, rewatching event highlight videos, and rereading old tech articles... and many of you are likely doing the same. To put all that Enduro World Series knowledge to use, we're running Fantasy Enduro Trivia while we wait for racing to kick off again.

These trivia quizzes WILL count towards the overall Fantasy Enduro League, so if you're all all-time EWS nerd (or just have a knack for guessing!) you could be the lucky person who wins an Ibis Ripmo V2 with the new 12 speed Shimano XT groupset!

Each trivia round will feature 15 questions and the first one will run 10 days, from Wednesday June 24th at 10am PST through Sunday, July 5th at 11:59pm PST and will have feature prizing for the overall Top Nerd. Once racing resumes (fingers crossed!), we'll continue with the regular Fantasy Enduro League and combine the points from Fantasy Trivia with Fantasy Enduro for a total of 8 rounds and crown the overall Fantasy Enduro Champion and present the Grand prize of a complete bike!

Sound good? Let's get started. But first, here's what's at stake:

IMPORTANT: To maximize your chances to win the grand prize Ibis Ripmo V2 complete with the new 12 speed Shimano XT M8100 groupset, we recommend you play all rounds of Fantasy Enduro Trivia ahead of the Fantasy Enduro season. There will be 8 rounds in total. You will want to maximize your points score for all 9 trivia rounds and races to win the prize bike. If racing is unable to resume, the winner of the bike will be decided by Fantasy Enduro Trivia alone.

The theme of this first round is, you guessed it, opening rounds. Good luck!

 Right there with you!

I was able to find the answers to most of the questions but I didn't have the time to investigate the rest. At least this will keep the POS people away who enter contests for a living. These are pretty fun aside from the fact there was no stop in Colombia in 2016........

@scott-townes: We've corrected that question - thanks for pointing that out!
  • 13 0
This feels like me on every test at school

I find it funny that the number of responses varies as you go question to question..like some people are “nope, not going to even try!”
  • 1 0
 Brain checks out...
  • 1 0
@sarahmoore: Ah frig, you just made it easier for people.
  • 2 0
"pressin and guessin". that would make you clairvoyant, somewhat like cheating if are to win..
  • 2 0
Waaay easier than the first DH Trivia. My guess is that it will be a lucky draw between 50-100 people, who'll all get 15/15.
  • 1 0
Correction...looking at the numbers of of people that selected the same answers as me, there could be as many as 500 people with full marks.
  • 1 0
I really hope it's not more than double digits, but wouldn't be surprised if it was in hundreds. Most of the questions were really easy to find.
  • 1 0
@Christofison: Realistically, the only “good” chance of winning something would be the grand prize. And that’s only if all rounds are trivia AND you guess every question correctly.
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: Damn, looks like I was much to confident. Only 2 people got 750 points. I only got 650 Frown
  • 1 0
@Christofison: Where do you see this info?
  • 1 0
650 aswell... I'm anxious to see the right answers, I was confident in every question
  • 4 0
@Christofison: @mtnbiker49: @ondreja: right there with you... 99.99999% sure I got 15/15, but it says I missed two, so 650... wish they'd give the answers
  • 3 0
Seeing how about 210 accounts are tied for 32nd with 650, some clarification would be good... a goof in the scoring would be a big shake-up.
  • 3 0
Yep, I thought I had 14/15 for sure and guessed the 1987 one. But scored 12. I would have thought a heap of people would have got 15, not just 2 people, which makes me thinks something might be messed up.
  • 1 0
Also going to chip in and say I was pretty sure I got all of them right, but I scored 600. Some clarification on what the actual answers were would be helpful because there could be an issue...
  • 1 0
 @Christofison: I only got 450
  • 2 0
@BigAlfonz: I typed in all my answers in the comments under each question. Give a like if you guessed the same.
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: I have cecile and tihi o tawa, the rest is the same. 13/15. If I have to guess, the produce could have been wrong since there was this one package on 2nd place that could have been anything www.pinkbike.com/photo/13340849
Other than that I'm clueless about where the wrongs could be.
  • 1 0
@ondreja: Cecile and Tihi are/Should be correct afaik, at least that's what I picked. Shrug.
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: Yup, I was comparing with @mtnbiker49 's answers in the comments, those two are only one where we differ and he has 11/15.
  • 1 0
@ondreja: Ah, I see. Oops. Smile
  • 1 0
@ondreja: Well, that means we answered and scored identically, so those two are "correct", which means that the two weird ones are somewhere else...
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: Nice going, providing some info as proof but not full giveaways... I should probably make an edited second document with the links etc. removed. Should probably give them some time; they seem to post a set few articles a day... I should probably post my answers tomorrow and keep the backup info hidden but handy.
  • 1 0
@ondreja: I have the same as you, except guessed Helene, not Sandy. I got 12. So it would seem Sandy is correct. The two others PB thinks are wrong remain a mystery.

Chocolate should be right, very clear in official highlights video.
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: same boat. I was also 99% sure i got all of them right, but it says i only scored 650/750 which i suppose means I missed 2 of them?
  • 1 0
@BigAlfonz: Sandy was correct. I have the document in front of me from that race showing her as the winner.
  • 1 0
 @mtbikeaddict:

I scored 650.

Here are my answers, and my confidence interval for each of them:

1. 2014 (100%)
2. Punta Ala (99%)
3. 2 (100%)
4. Sandy (100%)
5. 19th (70% but I want to argue this one if someone answered differently)
6. Tiger Island (90%)
7. Jersey (100%)
8. Tihi o Tawa (90%)
9. Davide Sottocornola (90%)
10. Greg Minnaar (99%)
11. 15th (90%)
12. Cecile (99%)
13. Shuttling (99%)
14. Coffee (70%)
15. Didn't Carry One (60%)

So this would leave me to believe that its questions 5, 14, and 15 that have the highest likelihood of being wrong. I believe 15 is wrong. Most of the pictures of her bike online are from other races where she didn't have a tube, but i couldn't find any concrete evidence from that specific race.
  • 1 0
 @skijosh:
Q5. Flow came 6th in 2018 EWS #1.
Q14. Chocolate > youtu.be/-f5y-LtqkyA?t=1018
Q15. Top tube > www.pinkbike.com/photo/14596861

So you got 13/15 with what seems to be 3 wrong (sorry) answers to me. Makes me think Pinkbike has stuffed it up.
  • 1 0
@skijosh: I’m the same except 14 and 15, I put chocolate and if you look super carefully you can she carried a tube.
  • 1 0
@BigAlfonz: I also put 6th for the 5th question. That’s the one I’m least sure of though. The wording on it wasn’t clear.
  • 1 0
@Alexmdmtb: Yep. If it were a round, then it would have been 9th. Stage would be 6th. Though there were a few races early on where the nationality wasn't listed, so it may have been 2nd, however I researched top womens and mens elite racers and those who came in 2nd were not from Chile.
  • 1 0
@Alexmdmtb: I didn't even think about the wording. Just assumed round, maybe because most of the other questions related to a round.
  • 1 0
@BigAlfonz: @skijosh well PB seems to think that either the produce was coffee or that Isabeau didn't carry one. Since there's footage of her carrying one, that leaves us most likely at coffee, which would mean it was tricky question somehow where researching would land us at wrong answer. That would leave me so pissed tho because I only found out about the chocolate like two days before it closed and originally guessed coffee. Anyway, that still leaves one more wrong answer in a field of questions we're almost sure to have correctly. There's still the chance that those points are incorrect. Hopefully they'll release the winners announcement with official answers tomorrow.
  • 1 0
@skijosh: Thanks for posting this. Im super curious where you found the answer to question 4. I spent more time then I'd like to admit searching for that one haha
  • 1 0
@jake133: That was by far the hardest answer to find. It is out there though, you're just not going to find it by searching her name or the word 'enduro'.
  • 1 0
@skijosh: What doesn't make sense is how we both got 650 points (therefore 2 incorrect), but my answers on3 questions (5, 14 & 15) are different from yours. That proves that something is messed up with their scoring...which is probably why they haven't posted an article yet, because tech is still trying to fix the scoring problem.
  • 1 0
@Christofison: Same here, answered Q5 & Q14 with 6th & chocolate but the for the rest the same as @skijosh
I also got 650 points.

I do remember once changing an answer and re-saving it, I wonder if that caused an issue.
  • 1 0
@Aapenootjes: There is video footage of Isabeau riding that round with her tube taped to her top tube. Sorry.
  • 1 0
 @BigAlfonz:

Wasn’t Flow #6 in the elite category? Didn’t the elite category disappear in 2015ish?
  • 1 0
 @BigAlfonz:

Sorry I mean wasn’t flow #6 in the PRO category? Elite was an old category that disappeared on 2015 or 2016??
  • 1 0
@Christofison: Oh yeah, I don't deny I got that wrong!
  • 1 0
@skijosh: I would say Pro, Elite or Open are all synonymous with each other. Even if they are not, the answer would be 2nd or 9th because shes got 15th in Chile 2014, where it was labeled "elite womens".
  • 1 0
@skijosh: Here are my answers as well: I got a 650 too:

1. 2014
2. Punta Ala
3. 2
4. Sandy Shroote
5. 6th
6. tiger Island
7. football jersey
8. Tihi o Tawa
9. Sottorcornola
10. Minnaar
11. 15th
12. Ravanel
13. Shuttling
14. Chocolate
15. Taped to Top Tube

Not sure how the scores are the same. Hopefully they did something wrong, I was pretty sure of my answers...
  • 1 0
@Boxmtb: I have the exact same, and have subsequently rechecked my answers so many times. We should give the guys and gals at PB sometime to figure this out, this isn’t a simple task, but it is completely free to us. Patience, and good luck Smile
  • 1 0
Wow, lots of comments since I was here. No update article still. Blank Stare I did just get a message from @edspratt 4 hrs ago, it just said they will release an update article and the answers soon.
  • 1 0
@skijosh: I think: #5 is 6th, if not that it should be 9th, both were Flo Espineira. #14 should be chocolate (Rapa Nui). I guess being Argentina coffee is possible but unlikely as I have several photos showing chocolate. #15 she had a tube secured to her top tube in the junction between top tube and seat tube. Other than that correct, but of course that doesn’t mean they were scored that way.
  • 1 0
Guys, I just realized...! Facepalm 2 accounts got “perfect” 750 scores according to PB, so I/@ondreja/we could contact them and see where our answers differ... then we’ll know the two weird answers.
  • 1 0
@dweiser: i believe her 15th place spot in Chile was her only race categorized as "elite" before it got moved to "open" and then "pro" - so I marked 15th for that reason.
  • 1 0
@JaToledo: same thing here... Pb messed up.
  • 1 0
@Boxmtb: Yep. Same answers, ridiculous research to backup and write up for proof confirms it. I wish they would just post something, anything at all, but I guess they’re holding out for the update article... check tomorrow I guess?
  • 1 0
@Boxmtb: I am certain that should be 15/15. And I think many dozens of people probably had the same.
  • 1 0
@BigAlfonz: looks like a bunch of us are tied for first now. i had 650 points and now have 700 like a lot of people.
  • 1 0
@dualcrownscottspark: They deleted a question, apparently.
  • 1 0
@JaToledo: interesting... hope we get updates tomorrow
  • 1 0
@dualcrownscottspark: Same, also got bumped up 50 points. 140 people tied for first place. Really looks like one question has been omitted.
  • 1 0
@jake133: i found it on an old French website
  • 1 0
@Christofison: Pinkbike actually posted an article yesterday, but it was taken down again after 10 min.
they had question 5 and the 14 different.

I think they originally had 9th for question 5. but then changed it to 6th before they removed the article.
for the 14th question they had coffee, with a picture to prove it. my guess is because there also was chocolate they removed the 14th question, since there were 2 possible correct answers.
  • 1 0
Huh, would love to see the coffee photo.
  • 1 0
 @Johanvdb:
I guess they felt bad for the people who had been shown with 750 points because they are the people who got 1st and 2nd place.
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: I think the article shouldn't be available yet and they are still updating it. It's not published yet unless u have the direct link. So don't go commenting yet and give them the chance to finish it and publish it.
  • 2 0
@BigAlfonz @dualcrownscottspark @JaToledo @Christofison @skijosh @Johanvdb @ondreja @mtnbiker49 WOW lol interesting changes... guys I just got two important PM’s... one from @sarahmoore ... apparently they goofed so they deleted one question and changed another. The other pm was from one of the two guys who got a “perfect” score... apparently both chocolate and coffee were present, and Florencia got 6th and 9th but they counted the 9th place apparently. So now a bunch of people have 700 points, but still no update article; they’re working on figuring it out. Interesting
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: Thanks for the update! Maybe they'll tell us tomorrow?
  • 2 0
Looks like it’s a random draw among 140 accounts... good luck to y’all. Razz Although it looks right now like the winner is a new account... what a warm reception lol.
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: seems like they might still be working on figuring out the scores. So maybe the field will get smaller? I hope so... But who knows at this point.
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: But wouldn’t 6th be right since it was the BEST standing?
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: That’s what I thought so I picked 6th. Only the 9th place showed up on one certain website, but I went by official EWS results lol. I don’t really know what they were/are doing... @skijosh pointed out some intricacies with Elite vs Pro vs Open, but I don’t think they’d be that picky. I guess we’ll see if/when they post an explanatory update... ?
  • 1 0
 @Boxmtb: same
  • 1 0
The corrected winners have been announced, and comments disabled :-D
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: my problem is that I really thought that they WOULD be that picky, which is why they included the 15th place answer
  • 64 0
the winner will be the person with the most free time to google.
  • 10 0
yeah tried that..gave up after 2 mins and just guessed
  • 1 0
Doesn‘t actually take that long, for at least 13 of the answers you don’t even have to leave Pinkbike- which probably was their intention.
  • 21 0
"what brand of helmet did the 36th place finisher, Davide Sottocornola, wear in Finale for the final round in 2013?"
  • 5 0
 What colour were his shoelaces?!
  • 9 0
@gunners1: His shoelaces weren't allowed on board the plane and he had to leave them behind. Fabien Barel was caught for taking the French line on the uplift and was ordered to give one of his shoelaces to Davide. Because these shoelaces were particularly long and slack, one lace was good enough for two shoes. The lace was originally blue but the yellow dust turned them in a kind of green.

So technically your question should be rephrased as it wasn't his own shoelace originally, it was only one lace instead of two and the colour changed throughout the race (from blue to green). Otherwise, fun question. Keep them going, I can answer anything.
  • 1 0
@vinay: Wrong! Yes his laces were originally blue, but on stage 2/6 on Caprazoppa there was still a damp red clay section left over from rain earlier in the week. This red orange clay soaked under the velcro flap protecting his laces and stained the blue laces rendering them Purple.

  • 1 1
We fixed that question - thank you!
  • 4 0
@sarahmoore: I think @Jvhowube deserves some sort of special prize for fixing the questions...
  • 1 0
@sarahmoore: Could you clarify the 3rd question? Stages, not rounds... Ever, period? In 2014? In Chile, in 2014? At that one race?
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: At that one race Wink
  • 3 0
@sarahmoore: Will the answers be posted? I thought I had them all!
  • 1 0
@sarahmoore: please post the answers, i was confident i got it, then im wrong haha
  • 1 0
 @nyloracoftheshore: The answers are outlined.
  • 1 0
@nyloracoftheshore: Nevermind. I'm actually pretty sure that pinkbike doesn't even have the correct answers considering I spent about four hours researching the questions. 11/15 correct, apparently.
  • 3 0
@nyloracoftheshore: @Raian: same... quite confident I got 15/15, but it says I missed two, so 650... wish they'd give their answers/explanations afterwards... @mtnbiker49: "I'm actually pretty sure that pinkbike doesn't even have the correct answers" You might actually have something there... I know they goofed the DH answers at first and had to redo... I'm going to google and collect sources for what I can, for proof/backup, (with the prizes I wouldn't trust anyone else's online say-so either) and post that + questions when they release an update article. I sent a PM but no answer yet.
  • 2 0
@mtbikeaddict: I don't mind not winning, I mind being wrong.
  • 1 0
@Pedal-Bin: Same! I mean, of course I'd be lying if I said winning wouldn't be nice lol, but the knowledge/justice part is the main thing
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: Also 650, I'm tempted to just type out my answers and see what other people say. I was not confident I got them all, but I would really like to know which ones I got wrong.
  • 2 0
@dweiser: Yeah, I think I'll do that... at first I was hesitant as I suppose it could give away help or info or whatever, but this round is over/locked already. I guess even though the questions will be different in the future, someone could get ideas of where to search or something, but that's the only way to provide my answers so oh well. If they provided the answers we could self-check; I'm sure they'll do that next time... this seems to be pretty big now. Seeing how we're a handful of the 210 or so in 32nd tied with 650, and there's plenty above us...
I don't know about you guys but I think if/when they post an update I'll just submit my answers in the comments and ask them to post the answers/explanations in the future.
  • 1 0
@mtnbiker49: So the outlines are my answers not the correct answers? I can back up all my answers given a few hours. Maybe there were some trick questions.
  • 1 0
@mtbikeaddict: Thanks, just responded to a couple of yours that were not definitive. I definitely gave away where I found one tricky answer, but the others were pure digging. Still no idea what ones I got wrong.
  • 1 0
@nyloracoftheshore: Correct, the bold outlines show the answer you selected. They don't give the "actual" answers. I've double-checked and put together a doc with links for all (I think) my answers just in case, but @sarahmoore and @edspratt haven't been online in a little while... maybe I should just wait to see if they post an article tomorrow?...
  • 5 0
What are the answers? are they given? I don't know where I went wrong? I'd like to know!!
  • 3 2
@pinkbikeaudience Please please please check the wording in the questions... Fabien raced the final round of 2014 which was a 6 stage race, and several other questions have similar wording issues.
