Remy Morton is one of the best bike riders you are likely to find, stylish on a downhill bike, an enduro bike and a BMX as well! We heard that Remy was taking his 20-inch whip with no suspension and rim brakes into the Queenstown Bike Park, so we charged up the cameras and followed him in. Hitting these trails on a BMX is no joke so PLEASE do not try this for yourself!
Nice, but I grew up watching guys like Sean Burns, so compared to his insanity, this is a walk in the park :-) (to those who don't know who is that, you can see here youtu.be/Dl8Ydm7vwws?t=42m1s)
My thoughts as well. Street bmx riders have been jumping from second story height to flat for a long time. In less than idea conditions. It makes riding down some dirt hills seem more tame.
@laxguy: steven hamilton has some nice video parts too if you like full speed style mixed with some weird tech moves. Shame the guy seems to be in a dark pace for some years now.
True Sean really pushes the limit by not wearing a helmet. I think the only way to improve this would be to wear a roller skate as a hat and start landing stuff directly on top of your head.
In other news, Remy you are making amazing progress coming back from your injuries- I loved the edit and the big smile. Welcome back.
@laxguy: Haha....exactly. For a chunky guy, he can ride. I toured around with the NBL/ABA most of the 90's and 2000 ish. He was around a good bit. Especially at the NBL races like Southpark and such getting the FBM thing going.
Yeah, kind of lame of whoever was filming (and/or has edited this movie). If he said "thanks, bye" it is the end of the video. Why keep filming, safely behind your camera?
To everyone saying "it goes to show how smooth and flat trails are now" , yeah flat trails suck, but the Queenstown bike park is way gnarlier than your local trails. And the jumps are f*cking huge. One of them is longer than the 4th on crab apple. What remi did in this video is unbelievable. Most of the people commenting couldn't those jumps, period.
The way they build some flow trails like freeways in bike parks these days, makes this seem doable for most. Note that I said seem. I don't mean to take away from the skill of Remy. I bet we'd all have second thoughts given the chance.
Second: The dude just recovered from a major injury, one that would see many never ride again let alone walk or function normally. So all this nonsense about the smoothness of bike parks and what about this guy or that guy is completely missing the point...which I am taking to be that this guy is back!
you won this comment section Sir ! and Remy is absolute killer. Would you guys realize what it mentally takes to ride at this speed / level / confidence after such an injury?! Remy i owe you all my respect and beyond. Take care
The funny thing about Kiwis is that they don't rinse the suds off after washing the dishes. I didn't believe it either, I thought oh you must have had some slacker flatmates. But then this PHD Kiwi comes to stay at our place and sure enough I had to rinse all the dishes off as soon as she left the kitchen. And yeah, Shen Burns rips
that's not only awesome riding, it shows how far from competent most mountain bikers have turned out to be, with everyone running out to buy way more tire, bike and brakes then actually needed just to ride the f'ing chair/truck up and coast down a buffed out path. Look at the 'trails'! Nothing more than a bmx track with no rocks or roots left after being hacked, shoveled and raked into the woods. Sure this dude rips, and that bike is a serious challenge, but isn't that what riding is supposed to be? Most riders are sitting on their asses between each jump 'cause their too weak to stand anymore, this dude and other HT riders have to stand and rip it. No wonder CroMag and BTR are selling shready hardtails, 'cause that ALL that's actually needed to ride most so called mountain bike trails today.
This was way less.scary then when pinkbike bought a bike from walmart in squamish then took.it to the bikepark.
I think they did two laps on it and possibly returned it to walmart!
Nothing more fun then taking a bike waaaayyy outside of its element. I.e. sketchy rock gardens on cx bikes or attempting that double on a fixed gear commuter by those railroad tracks you had been eyeing for a eveyday on your commute to class.
Then showing up to class with dirt covering your left half, your left elbow tore up, and rocking the biggest smile!
Um, ok... Hardly insane. Launch ramp landings, and smooth berms, and skidding every 10 ft. Flow, bro... Flow
Someone dig up footage of Posh, or anything in Pittsburgh. I get in, this is "different" but, ain't insane. Watch the latest Credence web-vid for a lesson in "trails"
Really just says how stupid smooth all these new school bike park toboggan trails are, you literally can ride them on a BMX or Road Bike... Bring back the gnar!!!
all this proves is how rediculously smooth "downhill" parks are becoming. Props for the amount of speed hes carrying thouh on little wheels thats gotta be scaryand twitchy
This is one of 30+ trails and is one of the easy flow trails. I worked at Skyline and there are sections on trails that you probably couldn't even ride. Queenstown is known for its tech riding.
Rim brakes on a BMX isn't like rim brakes on an MTB. The smaller the wheel, the faster it's spinning, so rim brakes on a 20" wheel can be very effective.
• Rim brakes on any bike can be effective. We don't use them on mountain bikes because of moisture, wear rate, likelihood of bent rims, etc. • The smaller the wheel, the faster it's spinning?! NO! A smaller wheel will have a higher RPM to cover the same distance, but the surface of the tire is going the same speed.
(to those who don't know who is that, you can see here youtu.be/Dl8Ydm7vwws?t=42m1s)
But I bet the braking bumps are hell on the 20" wheel.

Great to see Remy back out killing it!
