Will the Lošinj World Cup see more flat tyres and rim dingers than you can count? Vali Höll and her team seem to think so! The track looks absolutely savage!

@LoganKM1982: If you're really hardcore and cheapass, you can run tyres inside tyres - my friend used to run 1.5" inside 2.00" tyres. Yes, his bike was quite heavy...
@LoganKM1982: I got some on sale when I built my first DH bike an didn't know any better. When the postie gave me the box, it was so heavy I nearly dropped it
I run a Huck Norris on top of a Flat Tire Defender on top of a Cush Core on top of ghetto tubeless on top of Enve rim strips on top of steel wheelsets.
@DarrellW: I only really got into (could afford) downhill after the 2014 revolution in mfg standards and tech.
I've always run maxxis and just switched to onza ibex. The dhc 27.5x2.4 in visco is amazing. That and I do the ghetto tubeless trick just to protect the rims. Cushcore, a thick tube as rim tape and my rear tire has (knock on wood) never been a problem, even spent an afternoon on a flat like a hack without noticing. The rim was almost square the next day. I blame the odd pungent fog often present in Tahoe, especially in recent years.
When this track was first announced as a WC event a lot of people were claiming it was to 'easy', not WC DH level. The more runs I see posted the more I appreciate just how challenging it is! I think the course builders have done a great job with this track.
It's a bonus for me to now have WC DH events at each of my 'home lands' Canada, Italia, and now Hrvatska!
Just because its rocky and break rims doesn't mean its "difficult" for the best riders in the world. It just means its rocky. I hope its good, but it still looks pretty janky to me.
@sino428: The course looks pretty bunk. Especially when someone yard sales into the boulders on the side. Doesnt matter how good you are at crashing, youre fugged if you do it here.
@scott-townes: no i would not necessarily call it difficult for word cup riders. Like I said, all it means is that there is a bunch of rocks. Rough does not mean difficult, just like smooth does not always mean easy.
@sino428: what ? really ? Only case of smooth and difficult I can think of is massive jumps, which mostly require basic technic and lost of balls. Whereas I can't think of any rock garden not requiring loads of technic to be made smooth and fast. But maybe you can illustrate ?
@blitz66: this is exactly my point. Rough does not automatically mean difficult. Just because the rocks are sharp or square edges doesn’t mean it’s a ‘difficult’ track. A difficult rock garden would be one wheee line choice is critical, where holes can swallow up a front tire and take a ride down, where rocks can bring a ride to a dead stop, etc. This just looks like a one line in most places that they just have to plow through and hope they don’t get a flat.
@sino428: You're missing the point. In a race where you have to make it to the bottom without any mechanicals while at the same time being fast, that is extremely difficult. I highly doubt you've ever been in a situation where you had to balance being smooth vs. being fast and altering your riding style and line choices because of that. Its not as simple as pointing it straight and hoping for the best.
"A difficult rock garden would be one (where) line choice is critical" Yes, that's exactly what will happen here. "This just looks like a one line in most places" What you think it looks like.. brilliant. Its no different than the clueless who hated on the track to begin with saying it looked to basic, easy, flat, etc.
@sino428: Sure thing! Let me know when you post your course runs, so we can all see how it's done. Comparing this track to a set of stairs!?!?! LoLoLoLoL
@RedBurn: It is natural, cement is a mixture of natural ingredients. Since you watched the builders vid, you also know that they only used machinery at the top of the track to get all that dirt placed. Maybe organic would be the better term?
Let us know when you have your track built so we can come shred it, bro!
@scott-townes: I can throw a bunch of thumb tacks down in the street and and ask you to ride through it without getting a flat. That doesn't mean its a difficult course.
Also how many line choices do they have on the course where there are riding between two rock walls?
@m1dg3t: Typical response when you have no real argument.
This is about WC riders and and the quality of venue that is expected for the highest level of racing. To me, from what I've seen thus far, this track does looks like a mess. I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I see so far.
Whether I can ride the track is irrelevant. I'm not on the World Cup circuit so I don't have too. I'm a fan and fans are allowed to have an opinion. Just like if I am watching a basketball or hockey game, I know when a player sucks. Of course even the worst professional are better than any fan, but that doesn't mean we can't be critical. Because in the context of that sport, in comparison to the other players, that player sucks and we know it. In the case of this track, my opinion so far is that it looks like it sucks in comparison to most other WC venues.
@scott-townes: Name calling now? Pretty standard procedure when you can't make any real argument.
I don't need to see the course taped. I watched the preview video where a good portion of the rocky sections are lined by huge rock walls. What are you expecting riders to do, ride up on the rock walls? There's only one line through those sections. Anyone can see that.
@scott-townes: OK, whatever you say. Next time Pinkbike posts a course preview we can all just pretend what we saw on the video (like big f*cking rock walls lining the track) doesn't exist.
@sino428: Smart people usually don't watch a POV video where there's a rock wall near a portion of the trail and then state the whole trail is lined with rock walls and multiple lines are impossible.
@scott-townes: Your right, I re-watched and its not the whole trail lined with rock walls. Oh wait yes it is. Even the uphill paved sections of the track are lined with walls.
@sino428: Not difficult? are you senseless mate? This is difficult. Picking a fast, clean line and not getting a flattie or mechanical through a rock garden (or staircase) is all part of the difficulty - it's what makes racing, they make tough decisions based on what will get them to the bottom of the hill fastest and that includes adjusting lines through these rock gardens to minimise the chance of mechanicals or knowing they can take a gamble and hit rock a, b & c take in the right place to keep speed. Oh, by the way, my misses raced this track for European champs last year...
@spankthewan: Well aren't they dead easy ? I mean I can take a road bike and ride them, maybe not fast but I still could go from start to bottom. I couldn't do Cairn's rock garden with a road bike, even very very slow tho. Riding a BMX track fast is technical tho I really agree with that, but it's the speed that makes it difficult, not "really" the state of the sufface/shape.
@Davidt89 i'm sorry but yes. Did you ever did drop off of double/table jumps ? Wether I'm doing a 1m or 5m drop off use the same technique accross all the sizes in between, only difference is that I'm likely to dab on the brakes before take off on the bigger ones as I can be scared and this is usually why you crash. Same with doubles really, not committing is what usually make you crash. Then once you start sending tricks or weird jumps it's another story. Point is if you have a good double jump technique and are totally brainless you probably can clear Fest jumps, but most neither have good double jump technique nor are brainless. Like I said, I can ride some decent rock gardens, shit like Cairns rock garden is something only few riders can, aka WC atheletes.
@vid1998: Bruni's home trails in France look a lot like this. Craggy, horrendous bullshit that lives to kill momentum and tires. Plus he's coming off a low season, and had a whole off-season to heal and train. He's my pick for senior mens at Losinj.
@TEAM-ROBOT: I think he's also been training with Tomac? A new hunger to win and some seat time with 1 of the greatest MTB pilots may be just what the Dr ordered.
@TEAM-ROBOT: I also think that he should get onto the podium if not on the top step but seing what Hill has done and how he has done in downhill and now in EWS it would be nice to see how he would do it. Not to forget Specialized was on the track for a couple of days so they know it. You should also pay atention at Jure Žabjek, he got good results last year and also helped build the track.
@vid1998: Jure Zabjek helped to build the track and may bladi bla... tell that to Marcelo, not to mention Marcelo is a top 10 WC racer... what Sam did to him was like stealing your girlfriend while you are shagging her.
Maybe increase psi to reduce pinch flats? It almost seemed like they were running soft tires on purpose and the whole thing was staged. It's rocky but many DH tracks are.
Get used to hearing her name more often. Give her a few more years and she will be a regular on the podium. How old is she 16? 17? Future looks bright for her.
People were complaining it was too smooth but you could tell from the first videos that the track was going to be brutally rough. Come race day it'll be even worse/better and I'm excited
@src248: Sam Pilgrim has a couple course run vids up on the tube. The most recent one I saw gives the best example of what to expect on/from this course.
I heard that Sam was going to turn up but after Chili he though the track was a little short and the pedal back up was too easy.
Seriously... looks like some good footage spots for live stream racing. Those who ride the slightly softer and faster setup should have no issues floating over the rocks. The track does look pretty good for a short track. Reminds me a little of some of the rocky sections near Malaga.
Confirmation about whether the course actually ends at the waterfront? Some E-speculation about whether the town bit was actually part of the track following Pilgrim's videos.
The risk of this being a shitshow with everybody puncturing seems high!! :p I guess mechanics will start getting their heads around crazy solutions now
@m1dg3t: It's probably a bit like English and Scottish/Irish accents. I can understand most of it but there are definitely words I've never heard before
@WAKIdesigns: Sorry, so sorry. So, so very sorry. I'm short maple syrop, and can't find my toque. My sled dogs ran away and my igloo is falling apart. At least I have bacon! It's been a long day :'(

Meanwhile, cement fixed rock gardens and bulldozers pushing dirt

Are you purposely trying to sound like an idiot or does that come naturally?

But also just a reasonable assumption regardless.
True
But I haven't seen Bruni smash through rocks to finish a race without a tyre
Not to forget Specialized was on the track for a couple of days so they know it.

@WAKIdesigns: Last year he finished 14th, two places behind Guiterez. The thing is he knows the track better than anyone else.
This video was great! Vali Höll is funny as hell. Time to introduce my nieces and nephews to their new hero.
Das ist geil!
