My full run of the Mountain Of Hell 2023! My fourth victory with some max speed of over 100km/h
A crazy start (and crash) of Camille Servant at the start and an intense battle with Pierre Thevenard all the way to the first climb! Chased by a group of 4/5 riders, nothing was certain until we crossed the finish line… A big congratulations to the 800 participants, organizers, volunteers, and spectators! It was madness!— Kilian Bron
@mattsavage: When it comes to cornering at 90KM/hr on snow...im guessing he was doing all he could to just keep the bike upright let alone avoid someone who came into his blindspot at warp speed
better yet, pause before it and then single frame advance. He literally kicks that dude off his bike. LMAO. f*ck yeah! you gonna do that dodgy shit? hes a karate kick!
@Mtbdialed: Thanks to @morgiou and the IG link, here's the English translation of what Pierre has to say. I tend to agree with the sentiment that when you're on the doorstep of 100kph on snowpack, you do what you need to keep yourself from ejecting. Except this seems like a healthy side order of luck too.
"Huge pressure at the start with nearly 800 riders behind, the first lines ready to do battle. Don't forget one ultra-motivated rider, @the_wild_boarr, who took a freeride line from the bowels of the glacier. Unfortunately for him, I couldn't brake in the middle of the curve! With the impact at 84km / h, unbalanced, my foot went in his rear wheel (not voluntary) and made him fall by breaking 6 spokes of his wheel. No hard feelings Camille and see you next year!"
@tbmaddux: amazing.... love the description 'petite touchette'! ha ha
Really bummed he didn't get away with it! Would have looked amazing. Definitely worth sitting there with some popcorn next year when half the field tries it.
@HankHank: yeah trying to figure out the deal with the flagged gates....are they compulsory, or optional?.. on the winner's POV half the time it looks like he's really behaving and half the time it's just 'screw it I'm going down the hill whatever way' Cool either way just a bit confusing!
This guy coming from the right was 2nd in qalies, and a former winner of this race. looks to me that he arrived just in the exact same time as the other guy for the holeshot, so maybe this line was just exactly as fast as the classic one
@bmied31: You can see him stretching out a bit to Kilian's right before they crouch for the start.
Also I spotted him in this video at 0:15 look for his red jersey with a white number plate dead center of his back, sweeping to the right past the barricades. He is followed by a second rider in orange: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiG023Rr4NM
@tbmaddux: in this video at about 0:40 it seems like a couple more riders are taking that russian line. This line especially when it rejoins the main line is too dangerous even in an event like this one
He levelled up on that mid-road section using the wood skirting to pick up 2 positions with the bonus rolling advantage. Also, he was sufficiently behind yellow vest guy back up the mountain who somersaulted through the ditch at 1:42. Staying on the bike vs hiking was another good call. Sweet effort by Theo.
In a downhill race the winning move was on the uphill section! Guy who was ahead started walking with the bike on an uphill section, and Camille passed him soon after, and then rode in front to the end to win.
Yup, came down to fitness and raw determination to pedal through the pain. Was actually hoping he'd be chasing for a bit while longer - makes the viewing more interesting.
@neimbc: this is why the US went full enduro and all but eliminated Super D... To many XC guys with good descending skills were crushing the more dh oriented guys. I'll take the super d format any day over enduro.
@bashhard: it has to be distance / time. you did distance / distance, so really it should be burgers per football GAME. which is 16250 burgers per minute, or about 2.9 e^6 burgers per football game.
Video idea: somebody should build a track that is used for both bikes and skis/boards and film a segment that flows between riding it in the summer and winter. Just putting that idea into the universe
Why they are not starting anymore from top of the glacier? This was the most entertaining part. On the other hand it's nice they ditched this hiking trail bellow Les2Alpes, new section look sick.

Q: So what is the course I'm supposed to be on?
A: Yes. and mind the pink thingies.
