Video: Kilian Bron Passes 100km/h in his Mountain Of Hell Winning Run

Jun 26, 2023
by Ed Spratt

bigquotesMy full run of the Mountain Of Hell 2023! My fourth victory with some max speed of over 100km/h

A crazy start (and crash) of Camille Servant at the start and an intense battle with Pierre Thevenard all the way to the first climb! Chased by a group of 4/5 riders, nothing was certain until we crossed the finish line…
A big congratulations to the 800 participants, organizers, volunteers, and spectators! It was madness!
Kilian Bron

 rider left, #135, totally caused that crash. he had a far better pov to avoid it, just bombed straight in to the other guy then kicked him.
  • 4 0
 @mattsavage: He was already in the corner when the guy on the right came in and slammed into him.

 @mattsavage: When it comes to cornering at 90KM/hr on snow...im guessing he was doing all he could to just keep the bike upright let alone avoid someone who came into his blindspot at warp speed
  • 10 0
 @mattsavage: your other left

 @mattsavage: wait, I misunderstood, you're right

 @HankHank: French lines, French cars, French people.....all terrible!

 better yet, pause before it and then single frame advance. He literally kicks that dude off his bike. LMAO. f*ck yeah! you gonna do that dodgy shit? hes a karate kick!

 @danielfloyd: sir, SIR! I needed to contact you about your car's extended warranty

 @morgiou: man that angle def changes things. I still want someone to explain where the heck that guy came from?

 @Mtbdialed: You probably keep your tongue in your mouth when you kiss your poodle.

 Eek wtf !!!!

 @Mtbdialed: Thanks to @morgiou and the IG link, here's the English translation of what Pierre has to say. I tend to agree with the sentiment that when you're on the doorstep of 100kph on snowpack, you do what you need to keep yourself from ejecting. Except this seems like a healthy side order of luck too.

"Huge pressure at the start with nearly 800 riders behind, the first lines ready to do battle.
Don't forget one ultra-motivated rider, @the_wild_boarr, who took a freeride line from the bowels of the glacier.
Unfortunately for him, I couldn't brake in the middle of the curve! With the impact at 84km / h, unbalanced, my foot went in his rear wheel (not voluntary) and made him fall by breaking 6 spokes of his wheel.
No hard feelings Camille and see you next year!"

 This is where he came from:

 @tbmaddux: Sick line - the Boar would've had the lead except for bad luck
  • 1 0
 @morgiou: yep ugly cut later in the rocks, you deliberately miss a door Pierre!!!
  • 5 0
 @tbmaddux: amazing.... love the description 'petite touchette'! ha ha

Really bummed he didn't get away with it! Would have looked amazing. Definitely worth sitting there with some popcorn next year when half the field tries it.

 @HankHank: yeah trying to figure out the deal with the flagged gates....are they compulsory, or optional?.. on the winner's POV half the time it looks like he's really behaving and half the time it's just 'screw it I'm going down the hill whatever way' Cool either way just a bit confusing!
  • 1 0
 @tb927: I thought the same thing - they'll kamikaze straight line it right down.
  • 2 0
 @tb927: I think he's just cutting corners where it is allowed/unflagged, He seems to heed all the pink signs unless I missed something.
  • 2 0
 This guy coming from the right was 2nd in qalies, and a former winner of this race. looks to me that he arrived just in the exact same time as the other guy for the holeshot, so maybe this line was just exactly as fast as the classic one
  • 2 0
 @tbmaddux: Thank you, wierd only one person seemed to take that line.
  • 1 0
 @bmied31: You can see him stretching out a bit to Kilian's right before they crouch for the start.

Also I spotted him in this video at 0:15 look for his red jersey with a white number plate dead center of his back, sweeping to the right past the barricades. He is followed by a second rider in orange: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiG023Rr4NM

 @tbmaddux: This video gives a better idea what it like in the pack - good stuff.
  • 2 0
 Bonus - at the end of this video he makes a wrong turn and unleashes a series of 'putain de merde'.
  • 1 0
 @tbmaddux: in this video at about 0:40 it seems like a couple more riders are taking that russian line. This line especially when it rejoins the main line is too dangerous even in an event like this one

 So many French lines they literally barely touched the trail. Bizarre

 Overheard at the riders meeting.

Q: So what is the course I'm supposed to be on?
A: Yes. and mind the pink thingies.
  • 7 0
 Last time I rode the MoH you just had to ride through the pink thingies, the rest is optional.

 Great video from Theo Galy, who has an early crash and has to pass dozens of other riders to come in 12th.

 He levelled up on that mid-road section using the wood skirting to pick up 2 positions with the bonus rolling advantage. Also, he was sufficiently behind yellow vest guy back up the mountain who somersaulted through the ditch at 1:42. Staying on the bike vs hiking was another good call. Sweet effort by Theo.

 In a downhill race the winning move was on the uphill section! Guy who was ahead started walking with the bike on an uphill section, and Camille passed him soon after, and then rode in front to the end to win.

 OOPS meant to say Kilian not Camille.
  • 5 0
 Yup, came down to fitness and raw determination to pedal through the pain. Was actually hoping he'd be chasing for a bit while longer - makes the viewing more interesting.
  • 13 0
 @neimbc: I think it would be cool if Killian had a rear facing camera for all the carnage at the first couple of snowy corners.
  • 7 0
 @neimbc: this is why the US went full enduro and all but eliminated Super D... To many XC guys with good descending skills were crushing the more dh oriented guys. I'll take the super d format any day over enduro.

 @mattsavage: Damn those complete riders!

 @mattsavage: Thankfully there is still Downieville All mountain Category Smile

 So many French lines I could taste garlic. Weird that they don't tape some of that stuff tighter.

 that dude at :47 was a heat seeking missile wtf lol
  • 3 0
 KB is the man! Maybe there are faster riders, maybe some make better films, but no rider today excels the two disciplines as well as Killian.
  • 4 0
 To put that speed into perspective that’s 27.7 metres per second. Crazy
  • 40 1
 How much is that in burgers per football field?
  • 12 0
 @bashhard: Thank you for requesting the US translation.
  • 8 0
 @bashhard: that's 53 corn dogs per innings
  • 2 0
 @bashhard: it has to be distance / time. you did distance / distance, so really it should be burgers per football GAME. which is 16250 burgers per minute, or about 2.9 e^6 burgers per football game.

 @mariomtblt: thanks, Elon.

 Video idea: somebody should build a track that is used for both bikes and skis/boards and film a segment that flows between riding it in the summer and winter. Just putting that idea into the universe

 its called corbets and tgr did this.

 Why they are not starting anymore from top of the glacier? This was the most entertaining part. On the other hand it's nice they ditched this hiking trail bellow Les2Alpes, new section look sick.

 All time sickest race of all, congrats!

 Why are so many upset about French lines?
  • 2 0
 that cheeky gap at 19:20 jeez louise
  • 2 0
 I wonder if the guy in the lead at 2:45 gets a DQ for missing that gate.
  • 1 0
 Love how he let the other lad go ahead at the start, just for the drame
  • 4 3
 Great run! All 4 people at the line seemed really enthusiastic!
  • 10 0
 Yeah, I am pretty sure that the other 796 participants were just there for participation trophies.
