Selected by Ian Hylands - I really like pretty much everything about this shot. The way the negative space works to create the diagonal line and also fits in thirds. The concept itself, and even just the shape of the line made by the lights is really great.
Same feeling dude, I've been checking out pink bike since the early days(circa 2002?) and this is one of the best POD I've seen, super crisp, very creative and best of all makes me want to ride NOW!
ehm nice picture but POD ? i love this picture but isnt a good POD with a nice mountainbiking stunt or something like that ? with biking ? i see a trail but thats all i can relate to biking in this (: !
he was probably heading uphill seeing as how the photog had to do a 180 sec (3 min) exposure. It wouldn't take 3 minutes to get from point a to point b heading downhill on that trail, at least from what I can tell. very cool picture regardless!
yes i agree this is a beuatiful shot, but for POD? Someone please tell me? I thought POD's were so the pinkbike community could acknowledge the amazing feats of riders and the photogropher taking it, not the nice veiws of a city and a light down a trail.
beautiful shot absolutely awesome...... but wheres the bike!
well if this shot does anything, it is making me want to go out and take some pictures of things!
true we can't see the rider itself, but we can see he was there and went all the way down the trail it's a whole trail ride in a picture ! and it looks amazing. loving this POD
I think it's an absolutely amazing photograph and one of the best Pod's i've ever seen but if you think about it I think the rider is climbing the single track and not descending cause if he was descending alot of the light would be shielded from the camera by the rider in the way. I know the ambient light would still be able to be seen but that lightning strike effect wouldn't be able to be seen. So I reckon the guy is climbing the hill instead of shredding it downhill
if the class of the shot and or how good it was taken.. is in the evaluation to choose POD than pinkbike sucks.. this is a bike site .. not some lame gay foto blog or forum where you can talk endlessly about PS or not.. lighting, focus , iso and all the other crap.. what only is interesting to a very little group real photographers !! and to a whole lot of fashion whores who think if they pick up a camera theyre the man.. and start talking shiit how bad the other ones pictures are.. you guys are just like girls with a new pair of shoes.. next time i'll let my dog chew my grip orsomething.. make a 10.000$ photo.. and i have a POD .. LAME!!!!1
with out photographers , we can never have pics of us riding or anything. so show some respect , this picture is sick, if you dont like it wait until tomorrow for a new one.. no need to PMS on everyone on pb because you cant respect a photographer.. and there are many photographers who can shred there bikes too.. so yes they are real men. even if they dont ride who cares. they are showing off what riders are doing and making it look good. so chill.. and a chewed grip would be a stupid picture..
i will keep it simple cause so are you *-* (we dutch have belgians,.. americans have canadians..so here we go ) 1 i said THIS POD sucks.. cause it is chosen as a nice picture.. no action.. 2 PMS is for woman you dumbmtrfkr and its not that i dont respect photographers.. its the LAME ASS FASHION WHORES who i hate who critisize other ones pics about dumb details.. en post crap endlessly we bikers like pics indeed..very much >> but if its 5mp or 10mp doesn't fokkingmatter mate.. we want proof.. (not some "star class gay PS-ed picture) well most of us do anyways.. cause since biking took off.. we bikers have fashion whores now too.. but the grip is a good idea.. if i make it with the new Canon EOS , you could post.. wow nice picture you can really see the grip was used.. and look at the focus and lighting.. blablabla.. buti allready changed the idea from grip to candian.. that would make a classier pic
well you sir are retarded. PMS is for women yes. so maybe understand that im calling you a woman because your bitching about how this pod sucks , but really over 1000 people have faved this. so just accept that photography is huge , look at ur desktop backround , ya thats photography ,
just because its faved doesnt make it fokking so.. same point here.. could be a lot of fashion whores.. my desk top are my pics.. and sure i have some pictures in my pics folder from others that i found stunning,, but that is because of the action captured.. not the goddmm lighting or iso.. i have a mate who does photography even gets payed for it sometimes.. he understands me .. he's getting fedup himself of all the wannabe's and the crap that goes along with it.. its about the location.. about the scene.. and about the moment.. no lenses or whatthef*ckelse you say there is..
For those that don't think this is POD, POD is an opinion and I am with the opinion that the picture should aspire people to ride and/ or make them want to obtain a print and hang it on their wall.
This picture does both, it makes me want to get out and ride after work, and I wouldn't mind having it on my wall. Great POD!
If you look real close, halfway down he did a back flip, there now is it POD worhty?
Since when does a picture need to have a person on a bike in it to be POD? Sure, it is PinkBike.com, but have a little creativity. If you can't realize that a dude with a light on his bike rode down this trail on an open exposure, you duumbbb.
@extreme - Yea that trail could be a jogging trail and the giant white line must be a streamer pulled down the mountain by 300 angry Swiss, those Swiss, always trying to confuse us.
I'm gonna stick with it being a riding shot, and it is pretty sick!
This is amazing! very well done! so for bikingpark... you where asking where is the bike... the only way he could have done this would be to but the camera on a tripod and set it to a 30 second shutter speed and probably around a f18-22. then he put a light on the rider and since the camera is exposing the photo for 30 seconds as the rider rides down the trail the light is bright enough to expose on to the photo but since the rider would not be very bright he would not expose onto the photo. so that is how you get that affect. hope that helps!
i guess the idea here is this shot wouldn't be possible without the use of a mountain bike. just imagine the ultra long exposure it'll take for this shot if done by foot. nothing else goes fast down the hill than a mountain bike.
